    Thank you so much for sharing this video. You saved my life. Let me explain. I moved my server to another location, and worked several hours trying to figure out why I couldn't connect to it from my computer. Watching your video was my last hope in a desperate situation. But when you explained the difference between the idrac ethernet port and the other ethernet ports on the back of the server, I felt like an idiot. I plugged the ethernet cable into the wrong port. It's working fine now. Sometimes, we have to just laugh at ourselves to remind us that we are just human. I owe you one, Bro!

      😊. Indeed. We all go through those kinds of things. I had an issue recently where I was running/trying to install a program out of a folder, and the installation kept failing. I spent hours troubleshooting it. It turns out it was calling something inside of that folder and putting it on the Desktop, and running it from there was breaking that link. I was laughing so hard when I figured it out. 😊

    Very well done. Most informative and simply conveyed. This is how information in the IT field needs to be shared. I came away with answers, and not more questions.

    Dude this is fuckin AMAZING! I do this purely for fun and utility as a home server so I don't know a whole lot about this stuff. I didn't even know what iDRAC was after having my R720 for about a month. I was ready to buy a KVM console cause I was so tired of unbolting my monitor, moving everything to the server and working with a janky setup any time I needed to get into the bios or boot options. So you can imagine my excitement when I just searched iDRAC out of curiosity and found this. Currently watching my machine boot up through the virtual console, amazing. Thank god I looked this up before spending hundreds of dollars on a shitty screen and keyboard haha. And as a note, I was able to just set it up on the front LCD of the server, didn't even have to go into the bios.

    Hey, Very detailed explanation. Loved it thank you! I bought used Dell R720 server which has express license and running into issues in setting up a iDRAC IP to it. Your help is much appreciated !
    As a starting point I reset my idrac setting and tried setting up static IP in the network by following you but I wasn't able to ping my idrac ip after reboot. Let me explain on how I connected the idrac physical interface. I have one end of RJ45 to iDRAC port and other end to my TP link router which is my ISP. Initially my idrac port started blinking while resting the idrac setting through system setup but after its completed there is no light.. seems to me like the port is down. So next I connected TP link router to a switch (Netgear) and then from switch to IDRAC port but no luck.. I am completely new in setting this up and I am struck on here in setting up a IP address to the device. Not sure if my idrac port is working or not as its not blinking anymore and could run the hardware diagnosis to see for any issues as my firmware is out of date. I tried reseating the idrac module but still no luck. I am looking to setup it as a home lab to install proxmox, eveng to learn networking. I would appreciate if you can provide some inputs hear please. Thank you in advance!!!

      Hi Vidya, there's a lot to unpack here, but we will get it to work. 😊. 1) if there is no blinking light, that means that no data is coming through. 2) I'm assuming your TP-link router is acting as your DHCP, so you need to figure out your network Configuration on that end. You can set up a DHCP reservation on the TP-Link. This way, you don't have to set the static IP on the server. If you set the static IP on the server, you will need to exclude that IP from your DHCP scope. If you do not do that, that IP will be assigned to another device when your server is turned off for too long. Also, when you say following along, Are you putting in the same IP I'm using into your IP Configuration?

      @@KoromaTech Thank you for your quick response :) Looks like the router is not detecting the MAC address of Idrac port when trying to setup DHCP reservation. I tried assigning it in the same range and also in the my current DHCP pool range but no luck !

    Great video, I had to read all the comments to see if my concerns were addressed here. I have a R730 that after initialization it indicates that no OS can be found, I've been trying various methods for installing Windows Server 2016 ISO from the front USB using the OS Deply option as well as from the DVD drive only to find out that ISO images have to be virtually connected using the IDRAC web console . Is it true that IDRAC's web console is not available using Gen 13's and under? If so, how would it be possible to install a OS ISO, because from my understanding it has to be virtually connected within IDRAC. I will continue to watch more of your videos to become more knowledgeable thanks.

      Hi Hayward, you don't need both. It is mostly used for redundancy, so ideally, you will have each plugin a different APC in a work environment in case one goes down, so you can do with one in your lab. Not unless you want redundancy.

    What if I just want to use a internet browser on the server just so I can access the internet how would I do that for the network cable

      Hi, I'm not sure what the question is asking. If you are asking if you can access it over the browser...Then the answer is yes. As long as things are on the same network.

    do I need to pay a license for this?

    • @KoromaTech
      @KoromaTech  3 года назад

      There is IDRAC Express is the base license you will need to move up to Express if you want more features. I got my server from Amazon, so it was already included. Check out this link if you want a good break down of things. Hope this helps. www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000176472/idrac-cmc-openmanage-enterprise-openmanage-integration-with-microsoft-windows-admin-center-openmanage-integration-with-servicenow-and-dpat-trial-licenses
