I’m glad you stumbled upon us! Devin Castle was my favorite site we saw around Bratislava. You’re in for a treat. Can’t wait to hear about your experience!
It's nice that you came to see the Iron Curtain monument. Many tourists just look at the castle and have no idea what is under it by the river. It was ceremoniously unveiled by the British Queen Elizabeth II. Btw, the tree is called "Mirabelka", has two variants, red and yellow. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirabelle_plum
It is not 20min away from Bratislava, it is 20min away from the city center. It is still a part of Bratislava, Devín is a district, not its own village. It feels like it because there is Devínska Kobyla up north, which is a natural reserve.
Hi Great video, thank you very much. I visit the castle every year with the kids, there is always some kind of festival there. Just small corrections, velvet revolution in Czechoslovakia took part in 1989. Many people died there because they were trying to escape to the west and they were killed by comunist border patrol.
If Bratislava and its surroundings was the hilliest part if your trip then you have seen nothing yet 😅. Slovakia is 80% mountainous so compared to that, Bratislava is pretty flat. The hill you saw is called Devínska Kobyla (514 m) and it's the part of Devín Carpathians (subdivision of Little Carpathians range). Fun fact Devínska Kobyla is 5x lower than the highest peak (Gerlachovský štít) of Carpathian Mountains which is located in Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras). Little correction about Dunaj. Your j is not the same as ours. The correct pronunciation would be (will write it phonetically) Dun is pretty obvious and then you can pronounce AJ as eye), you also misspelled Danube as Dunabe which I found absolutely hilarious. If you like castles like Devín (ruins) your next trip has to be around all of Slovakia because you will see so many ruins on top of hills. You definitely need to visit Spiš Castle, one of the biggest Castles in Europe. And also Orava Castle (not a ruin) where some scenes from Nosferatu (1922 version) were filmed. I enjoyed your video even though there were some mistakes (ehm, Velvet Revolution in 70s) but in overal it was a good video. Hope you will come back to Slovakia one day and venture more into the central and eastern parts of the country and not just the Capital and its surroundings.
All great points, and we're taking notes for the next time we're in Slovakia. Thank you for the incredibly thoughtful comment. We always appreciate corrections - helps us learn :)
mirabolan, wild plum 🤗😋
2:48 Im from Slovakia and we (or at some parts of country) call them "Okruhličky" wich you can translate as Roundies(?).
That's a very cute translation :)
Awesome seeing a recent video, I am in Bratislava today and heading to the castle in a little bit.

Thanks for the comment! I'm a huge history buff so it was a must-not-miss for me. Slovakia is so beautiful!
@@kineticpassports Yes , "Mirabelka" is a sort of wild plum... You can also find second variant named "Ringlota" there on the Devin castle.
@@martinfratric5304 Thanks! Good to know for next time.

Thank you for the kind correction - always appreciate hearing from folks who know more than we do.

Thanks for the comment - not sure what you mean by spR, but I'm sure it'll be obvious once you explain :)
