I stayed here with family in August 2019 and I'm here today to relive that week. Its a smaller resort with exceptional food, clear and clean ocean water and a awesome water park for kids, young and old and for the price I paid I had no complaints. @@toodillydoo8561 I 100% agree with you. The beach and the waterpark are absolutely fantastic for young families or those that prefer calmer ocean water. The waterpark has everything you need from a lazy river, water slides and a splash pad. That reef 30ft from shore is pretty fantastic too.

Hello all, I have some extremely exciting news about the resort formerly known as Jewel Runaway Bay. It was announced today that the property was purchased by Sandals Resorts International and the resort will be updated to become Beaches Runaway Bay. No timeline for the reopening. I'm so excited about this news and what it means for this area of Jamaica. The property is fantastic and with Sandals involved the facilities will now get the upgrade required to match the natural beauty of this amazing property.

This was our first and only stay in Jamaica, November 2019; we loved it so much! I am so terribly sad that it was sold in May 2020 and all those wonderful people who made this resort so great, were let go. We planned to come back in 2020 if we could, first Covid, then they finalized that sale. Boo!
Hi imamommytoo, so glad to hear you enjoyed your time at Jewel Runaway Bay. It's a fantastic resort for families which is why I took mine there back in February 2019. Outside of the people, who are wonderful, what was your favourite part of your vacation at JRB? We loved how perfectly calm the ocean water was and the reef which is about 15m off the shore. Oh, and the amazing waterpark too. JRB has been sold a couple times over the last few years and was sold recently amid the pandemic. Playa, who previously owned JRB will not disclose who they sold too and the new owner has not come forward. This is speculation but I believe the resort will reopen after pandemic and we may be surprised by the new owners. Its a great resort, in a great location, so there must have been some good interest. Barcelo Bavaro Palace is a comparable resort for families its just a bit larger.
Hi Steve. Most guest rooms are in need of some updating. Older and clunky furniture and the bathroom could use some maintenance. That said, what the guest rooms lack in beauty is made up in spades everywhere else. The beach and waterpark are fantastic. The restaurants were good but not great. We cruise a lot so our bar is set high across the board. If and when they update the rooms the price of this resort with jump up for sure. Any other questions let me know. Thanks for watching. It was purchased by Sandals/Beaches and will reopen as Beaches Runaway Bay but there is no timeline for the opening yet. Where are you docking? I may have some other options for you to explore.

@@max40401 it just dawned on me that the resort day pass being offered by Disney Cruise Line but be to Jewel Paradise Cove. Are you able to double check that? If so, Jewel Paradise Cove is indeed open and I was there in August. They have a nice beach, great pools and the staff is awesome. If you're looking for an alternative you could check the site resort for a day as they have opportunities at other properties. I used their service back in 2015 (while on a Disney Cruise) and they were extremely good. Check them out.

I stayed here a few years ago. It needs a major renovation and the food at all the restaurants were terrible except for pizza and buffet.
