The reporter saying "it's okay, we can cut it out" to a child that's probably seen more death and suffering than any of us could ever imagine, cause god forbid there's a curse word on air, truly seems surreal.

I'm Jewish, my husband is Israeli, and our family survived the Be'eri massacre. I hate what Hamas did, but I don't hate Palestinians at all and of course it's ridiculous to claim that they all support Hamas. They don't, just as the majority of Israelis do not want Bibi and his fanatical right wing cronies in power. As heartbroken as I am for what happened to us on Oct 7th, I'm also heartbroken for the suffering of the innocents in Gaza that we're seeing. No child deserves to go through a war. I don't agree with every single point John made because there are so many nuances, but overall this was balanced. I want only good things for the Palestinians. Not this.

my friend was shot dead near Khan Younis when she was helping the injured as a first responder during the great return march in 2018 by an IDF sniper, her aunts house was blown up in 2021 and her cousin right now is helping the wounded in the southern parts of Gaza. I witnessed the bombing in 2021 numerous times when we called to make sure they hadn't been injured. i also witnessed victims of that bombardment being unofficially treated by people with a heart of gold in Giza in Egypt that same year. Despite all this I have no hate for Jews or uninvolved israelis. I want peace and coexistence. I wish there was more respect for eachothers holy sights and more talking less fighting. but for a real secure and long lasting peace I can't see that materialising unless there is a Palestinian state. A Palestinian state that doesn't represent a shattered piece of ancient pottery. and that is what we really mean when the phrase is dropped " from the river to the sea". it means a connected Palestinian land not whipping out all israelis. and I want to end this all with saying that I condemn Hamas actions of October 8 because terrorism is not resistance.

the censors understand how shocking it is for children to witness how little we actually do to keep them safe. It's very disturbing as a child to learn that the good things you've been told about the world and how it works just ain't so. Unless we actively work at it and create paths to peace. And they feel that. And the human adults are embarrassed when they have to face the moral indignation and incredulity of children who know better. The human adults are too easy to identify in those cases. They stand out from the others.

I was born in El Salvador. One side of my family were bankers from Spain. We were doing pretty well, but my parents got involved in grassroots political circles during the start of the civil war and we got drawn into it in the end. Several of my male relatives got kidnapped by the Squadrons of Death. One of my uncles was a well known athlete and they let him go after my grandmother organized a protest. Another of my uncles, we never heard from again. My father was taken along with him and was tortured for weeks to try to extract information from him. He managed to escape and we escaped through the jungles into another country where he used his political contacts in Canada to finally get us to safety. We made it here with literally nothing but our clothes on our back. Our sponsors had to buy us winter clothes because we had no money. We lost our fortune and half our family to that civil war. But it was not the end. For most of my childhood and teens, we would move every single year throughout Quebec because my dad was paranoid that the CIA was after him and would show up at anytime to kill us. I thought it was ridiculous, because it seemed we were actually safe. I won't lie to you, we faced a lot of racist violence in Quebec. They were going through a xenophobic phase fuelled by nationalism and separatism. However, that all ended once we left Quebec for the English speaking part of Canada. We finally found peace and were able to grow as a family. Yet my father's paranoia didn't leave him for decades afterward. I eventually found out that the security forces of El Salvador, including the Squadrons of Death, were trained by the School of the Americas, which was founded by the CIA in the old Manifest Destiny era and I finally understood why my father thought the CIA was after him. I'm still sure there isn't a division of the CIA actually after him, but I understand why he blames them and after all the violence and fear we had to deal with for most of our lives, I understand why he has this trauma he couldn't let go of for decades.
For a long time, I was afraid to tell my story, because I was worried that some people would recognize the details in my story and use them to find my father and finally get him, but I now understand he's been dealing with severe PTSD for most of my life and I wish I could help him, but I don't know how.

[edit] I also hope that if you do revisit this topic, you’ll talk about the people in Palestine who are reporting on the situation on the ground, particularly Bisan Owda, the Gazan filmmaker who has become a voice for hope and endurance, but has also been speaking about the horrible truths and documenting each day since the first Israeli attack last year.

100%!!!! I do hope John continues to cover this genocide, and also can talk more about Joe Biden and his administrations unwavering support of Israel despite the UN, other countries and countless humanitarian aid organizations speaking out against the genocide, also the tons of instances of recorded violence shown by COUNTLESS IOF soldiers (not unlike U.S. police violence and dehumanization tactics). Not to mention Yemen, Syria, Iran and Egypts attempted involvement in helping Palestinians in Gaza, and Israel and U.S. violent responses to that... So much more has happened, none of it being peaceful unfortunately.

I am almost in tears (of relief) because of what I watched. As an Israeli, I cannot thank you enough for the way you've embraced this difficult and complex subject. These are truly scary days for my people and for my neighbours. I see them not only as neighbours, but cousins. I am sorry for what Netanyahu is doing. Nobody condones what he is doing to innocent civilians. As you mentioned, we were on a 40-week protest right until October 7. We really thought we were about to enter a civil war because of Netanyahu's semi-fascist government who turned this country into a hellhole. I can talk for days about his coalition and ideologies, but what I can say for sure is that he is a strategist. Do not let him fool you. He wouldn't be interviewed in Israel during the protests prior to October 7, but whenever he'd give a speech (in Hebrew, not English) in the Knesset, he'd use Torah versicles as analogies and to put us against each other. He is a manipulator, a robber, who will do anything, no matter the cost, to save himself while the nation rots. We all want peace and coexistence with the Palestinians. We all fear for what's coming next, but we mantain our hopes that soon this war will be over, and that in the future, we can all move on and achieve an agreement. We want our hostages back, and we want to stop this nonsense, but unfortunately our government won't listen. Netanyahu's coalition prefers power over peace. People are dying, and mass media wants users to take one side and put the blame on the other, feeding into this never ending cycle of violence and hatred.

Your metaphor is heavily flawed and the exact unevolved problem I was talking about. One of the major reasons that people in Gaza voted for Hamas (something that John left out, though no fault of his own as the whole segment was already packed with info) was that Hamas had constructed a successful system of mutual aid: food distribution, charities, health clinics, etc. that had completely broken down in Gaza under the Fatah government due to its widespread corruption. People can talk about freedom all they want, but it means little to a person who is starving. People need to eat, and Hamas was able to provide food at a time when it was scarce. Unless we can comprehend the idea that freedom doesn't just include civil rights, but also freedom against want, then there really is no hope for us.
EDIT: Wow, this comment kinda took off. I want to reiterate that, while I said that John 'failed to mention' this fact, I don't mean intentionally. This segment was already packed with info that many people do not know about the situation on the ground in Palestine, and him and his writing team were bound to have to drop some important info in order to fit it all in the time frame they are required to work in. He already spoke about how HAMAS largely won on protest votes due to Fatah's endemic corruption and incompetence.

Too bad you aren't hearing the Israeli children that are already familiar with sirens indicating the need to run to shelter. That are scared to leave the house. Or that need to stop the vehicle, lay on the ground and watch explosions above our heads. The situation in Gaza is heartbreaking. But Israel did not have any choice. They have been attacking for 70 years, declining peace over and over again, even after they were given half of Israel to rule themselves. Instead of making it heaven they chose to build rockets and tunnels and educate their children on hate.
School books in Israel talk about peace. Never about hate towards Arabs or Muslims. How can we? They live and prosper among us. My doctor, and pharmacist and gardener and cashier... Israelis co exist with Arabs when they arent attacking us.

I'm not even anywhere near this conflict, physically or culturally. But seeing those children, and then hearing those words of being "doomed to live together" broke me. He's right. The world feels massive and wars happening on the other side of it feel so distant, but the truth is all of us, every human on this earth is just as doomed. Violence is a natural reaction to fear, that much I cannot deny; but it is not the end of this, or any other conflict - only the justification for the next war. I sincerely hope that message of peace and compassion reaches the hearts of the people who need to hear it the most.

No elaborate camps with swimming pools and theatres or now debunked lies about soap and lampshades. Just bullets and starvation. That's how holocausts actually happen that you are allowed to investigate or question. Israel has already lied about babies and rapes per Israeli papers. Also, this BS rhetoric ignores some very salient realities. Unlike the Palestinians, when Israel drops bombs, the residents are warned to leave hours before. Do the Palestinians do this? And when questions are raised, where will they go? Someplace that's not going to be bombed would be a good answer. If I got that notification, I would start walking, even if I had nowhere to go.

When you talk about the conflict, you do need to talk about the decades long spiral of radicalization.
      Picture the following situation:
You are on vacation, you decided to book a 3 star hotel, covering just the basics, nothing fancy. You get there and it turns out the reception desk is basically just a sign on a card board, The bedding has holes and stains in and on it, and there are cockroaches running around, plumbing makes strange noises, and there are occasionally rolling blackouts, and there are no locks in the door, whilst outside there are cats in heat and constant dog barking…. All you now want after a three hour bus transfer in an unconditioned bus with broken suspension is to go home and sleep in your own bed, so you can start plotting on how the vacation provider needs to compensate you and what fines they should endure for treating you worse “ than an animal “ in a shitty underfunded shelter.
What you don’t know is,they started building a new skyscraper in your backyard. Can you feel the your blood starting to boil over the injustice you are having to endure?
So… now change that scenario just a bit. The vacation is nothing you booked but someone was just deciding you had to go on it. The bus ride is actually a 10 hour long walk on which every divination of the path means you potentially die - and sometimes you don’t even have to wander off that path to ultimately “never arrive at your destination”.
At that destination, you find out that the “rooms” are tents, water is something you need to catch from the environment, electricity is limited to a few rare moments, cockroaches would be the least of your issues when talking about “unwanted room mates”. The reception desk? Somewhere thousands of miles away, in a city that complaints that their billions worth of infrastructure isn’t even worth if a 3rd world country, just because there might be spotty cell network coverage and because a guy just pissed in the air conditioned subway train.
Oh yeah, doors? Locks? What’s a door? The dogs and cats? Constant sound barrage of explosions, gun fire, and sirens…. Now imagine, you are just 10 years old, surrounded by strangers but still terribly alone, without your family… just day dreaming of your bed, in your parental home, with a warm chocolate milk you mom brought you, before she hugs you good night - all as you are not able to sleep for even a little .
And NOW imagine that home you’re dreaming of has been decimated to rubble, but you will only find out after you return to your former home town, climbing over the remnants of what used to be your neighborhood, trying to figure out where the house stood you once - for a brief moment in time - grew up in….
Can you feel the anger and rage? The urge to make those how did that to you pay?
That is the radicalization that has happened for years and is still happening.
So, if you ever wondered why Nethanjahu is talking about “eradicating” the issue, this grooming of potential terrorists is the reason; terrorists that once were fearful displaced orphans.
I deeply hope that those kids are surviving this and that they never fall into that radicalization trap; but I do see HOW there might be potential terrorists coming out of this. And yes I am not looking at the years of indoctrination that most likely happened over the years in the Palestinian people.
I just wanted to shine a light on the situation that very well is a daily struggle for the people affected in a war that is fought by to very unequal opponents. One that does live in an open air prison, with a radical religiously extremist government, that misabuses the few funds they have and get for a military complex instead of the furtherance of their people. And one that as a just as radical religiously extreme government, but that is looking over a highly developed state, and a foreign (us) financed hyper modern army and Defence machine …

That’s literally how you end up in fascist Germany, because you only seek opinions and perspectives and validate that your own. People are going to say things you disagree with or don’t like , that’s NORMAL. Try to be a bit more open minded also try to be more flexible. A recent survey from CNN stated that 68 percent of all republicans once voted democratic at one point , What changed is there political views ,what didn’t change is the seeking of eco chambers and the behavior of muting or raging against people who don’t agree with your views. This is an extremely toxic behavior that leads to extremism both on the left and the right. It’s literally a go to for fascist.

I don't want to sound like an ignoramus who just heard there are Falastini peace activists, but the Israeli media usually paint people like you as under-the-table terror supporters. In addition, I would like to know what you think the solution is, and to what extent there is a willingness to step towards a solution; Most of the people here are desperate to the point of distrust, hence Netanyahu's victory in the last elections and the rise of the right in the last decades in general.

considered AN ACT OF RESISTANCE, while
the occupiers can not claim SELF-DEFENSE
