I think your personal style develops as you mature. And it doesn’t need to be defined specifically with a name. If I love it, I buy it. It all comes together because it was bought purposefully.
Agree! I think is also important to not label your style as only one thing, keeping a cohesive vibe is cool, but if you like other stuff that wouldn't necessarily match a particular style you like but still look good, or have a sentimental value, why wouldn't you keep it and integrate it, that makes it even more personal and puts a unique twist to it!
Such a good point! I read a book, I think it was Style by Natalie Walton, and one of the women she interviewed had a similar sentiment. She said she buys what she loves, and everything ends up balancing itself out because she loves it all.

I really enjoyed this podcast. My style has definitely evolved over the years. I always loved french country, and to this day, still do, but I have brought in english country, and traditional, to mix in. Magazines have helped me figure my style as well. I agree with others that our style preferences change as we mature, buy what you love, you will always find a place for it in your home. Many years ago when I started to furnish my home, someone told me, buy ONE good piece of furniture per year, save up for what appeals to you, look for quality built furniture that will last.
I think your style is much more English than French. Especially in your color palette which has alot of gray undertones that you don’t see in French interiors styles as much. Still stunning none the less!
I learned a lot about my style from antiquing with my mom; also, my parents took me to lots of historical homes/sites-Williamsburg, Winston-Salem, Newport RI, Builtmore, San Francisco, New Orleans, and the Monterrey Bay/Big Sur area. My parents were very vocal that they wouldn’t take us to Disneyworld/Disneyland and any time my dad traveled for work, they looked at ways to incorporate field trips. (We were homeschooled.) Also, my parents (especially my dad) inherited some beautiful things. My mom is a music teacher and a quilter, so she actively pointed out design elements like line and color and let me give input. (Because we moved so many times, my mom wouldn’t let me paint my room either)
I love this subject. I have always loved interior design and spent many many hours redecorating every place I've lived. It's almost comical to see the elevation of my style. Always enjoy everything you put out. Can't wait to see the bedroom! Thank you for working so hard and giving all of us so much joy in watching. You are truly awesome!
My style has definitely changed over the years. I've always been into design, whether it was fashion or decor. I've liked a wide range of styles that I sometimes look back on and laugh about. I guess these days I'd describe my style as warm modern with a slight lean to retro. But that might be simplifying it a bit because I also like asian styles. I'm just not into sleek or cold modern. My recent purchase of a 1976 ranch home is probably playing a huge part of why I currently like what I like. It has a lot of built-ins in darker wood tones and vaulted ceilings with wood beams, and it is in a wooded setting. I truly look forward to all your videos and podcasts. It's such a privilege to tag along on all your projects. I also enjoy your interactions with your Mom. I, too, have a very close relationship with my Mom, and it reminds me of that.
Thinking back I am pretty sure my style has remained the same but has enhanced and become more specific! I guess it helps that my style is still very much child-like; colorful, schoolhouse, retro/modern lines, natural materials! I love having stacks of my husbands old college text books everywhere, instruments, and basically anything you can find in a kids backpack as actual decor 😅
Just from watching your channel and moving into my "new" home, my style has evolved. I have always been a thrifter. I learned from my grandparents. My style is still evolving and I am learning how to style things better.
My style is very ecclectic, which makes it hard to decide if I want to buy something, because a lot of things go. I like wood, brass, velvet, colorful and vintage. Definately maximalist.
I feel most people tend to be eclectic with a main style showing through. Probably because a lot of people can’t change things up all at once. Limited availability due to finances or product availability, and also whether you have the energy to keep doing it.
I just did up my bathroom. It’s all white. White subway tile, white walls board and batten. Light wood ceiling with a pretty vintage glass light fixture. The floors are also wood look vinyl. The shower curtain is white with tiny florals. Such as pretty bathroom to me. Modern and quaint at once.😊
In my Chicago home, I lean towards traditional/French Provençal. In my French home I embrace the French country/French Provençal look but more elevated. I stay away from going too rustic or shabby chic with French Provençal. I look at the two homes as the city mouse and the country mouse but I love them both.
This is a treat for us to have a podcast, and love this episode, and really all of them. Today was a good learning episode about ones style, and evloving over time. I know I have with my home. I don't do trends, too expensive to follow. I can say that I love every aspect of both the Cottage and the Cali home. I can easily pick things from your home and place them in mine. It would be hard to say I am on the French Provincal which is so beautiful, but my home doesn't fit the style, but I can still grab pieces of your mood which I like. My mood is an "Extractor" of what makes my home comfy, cozy, and peaceful, but it must all intertwine and play well with one another.
I think my style is very eclectic. I like your style of moodier colors and jewel tones. Rich fabrics like velvet, silky and textured fabrics. I like mid century modern with a Scandinavian crossover in furniture.I also can appreciate a good queen Ann piece. I like touches of boho, industrial and farmhouse. Really hard to combine this and make it look good.

Thank you for the bonus podcast 😍 As for my style .. it’s difficult to describe it. Definitely I am not good in following trends and I don't like the house to look like a furniture store, I prefer timeless furnitures and i’m always on the lookout for unique things. I suppose 🤔 it could be described as transitional with eclectic features. Where I live there are no corresponding flea markets nor is it possible to visit estate sales. MaCenna, following your RUclips channel for the last 4 years or so, you have helped me find my likes and dislikes in my style. I have changed also after moving into the home I’m in now. At 72 I hated this home, we had downsized from my dream home I just didn’t care what was purchased in furniture. Now after 9 years my taste has changed and I am wanting to reinvent my home room by room, but this time take my time before buying furniture. Looking forward to your next Vlogmiss❤
Shook, that you also fit in a Podcast during Vlogmas! Thought I was gonna get some things done today but nooooooo. Instead, I am focused on Noel burning and the soft wavering light she puts out. Mine are to arrive on the 21st and I can’t wait! My style, I like so many that it makes it difficult. From Spanish colonial to chinoiserie chic, to California casual to vintage elegance. Whatever that is. My entire tablescape is thrifted this year from brass and crystal candlesticks to crystal bowls filled with paper whites and moss. It’s stunning! My runner was sewn from a beautiful silk curtain panel, also thrifted, and the other panel is used as the tree skirt for one of our three trees. In love with the simplicity and spending little to nothing on something that looks so very expensive. Thank you for all your inspiration MaCenna!
My style is quite different from yours, but I love your use of colour, warmth, dark tones and wood. More the base of the room and less the vintage/antique accessories your decorate with, they are very beautiful but not what I gravitate towards for my own space. I think owning your home and/or being in a space that has a lot of base character helps to find your style, but I've only ever rented fairly neutral appartements so I think I'm still honing in on what exactly it is that I like. Best way I could describe it so far would be moody organic with touches of industrial and bohemian. I totally relate with how sometimes when you look back at what you used to like you're like uuuhh, what?! Even going through my pined images on Pinterest I see what I used to pin and I struggle to see what I liked about the image but I keep them to see how my style evolves further with time. I'm also able to appreciate a lot of different styles depending on the house, your style is really cool, I also love very industrial lofts, and romantic cabins and even sometimes brutalist interiors if they have some warm tones!
I notice you don't use French Country sofas or chairs but lean more modern/contemporary for those pieces. I agree with mixing styles so COMFORT is achieved. Question: Do you choose your home's style based on exterior or other architecture? I had a small MCM apartment and it really called for MCM types of furniture (although I kept a comfy modern couch). Now, I am in a house but the MCM look doesn't seem to fit.
My style is currently Modern French Provincial/Modern Cottage. I like traditional more ornate home features (molding, etc.), but lean a more simple clean lines in furnishings.
I never chose to decorate with things that others chose. When I decorated my kids rooms, I never liked to use the Disney or popular themes that were in. I liked to find a a unique theme that was more personal to each child. I’m am still that way today.
Super excited for a bonus podcast! I know you’re running around like a headless chicken! Would love to know me where u go the tree pillow on your couch. Merry Christmas!
I used Google lens on the pillow, I love it too! It's Conell Rustic Forest lumbar throw pillow. Limited edition. Unfortunately sold out. :( Maybe ebay, or at an estate sale or thrift find! Lol
What is my style? That’s easy, vintage eclectic … I don’t have matching chairs in my dining room or a matching furniture in my living room. About the closest I come to a styled room would be my bedroom … I inherited my Grandma’s Eastlake bedroom suite.
Trying to determine decorating style… is there a place online where I could upload a photo of my space, and then have that site tell me what the style or combination of styles are?
You helped me understand my style a little. I know you say Moody to explain your color choices well I love colors not too dark not grey , beige or white. What style does that go to with colors on your walls? I call them chalky colors that are soft.
I went down the aisle at the Thrift store with my mom and I missed this huge pumpkin that you put soup in. My mom said did you not see this. I bought it. It was a Lennox pumpkin tureen. I collect vegetables for my kitchen and dining room but not overwhelming myself in it. Then it looks terrible.
I don’t think you should think of it as having one style. If you were in a different setting with different variables, your expression of your style would be different. Trends start out as good design, and reach people at different speeds. Most people are eclectic with their expression. Don’t knock trends so much. I love what you are doing do your house, and because I love design, I appreciate so many other design styles as long as elements speak to me. Design is ever evolving and trending. One way isn’t better or superior, but the feeling in the moment.
Modern classic is my design style. Like you, I went through many design phases before figuring out what style I truly am. It took me about 15 years and about 6 different design styles.
I agree it’s picked over now and many people shop to resell. However there is and always will be a shift in what people have to donate and what generations are donating. I love midcentury and 15 years ago it was everywhere but those people who kept all that stuff are dying off now and were left with didferent styles. It will eventually come full circle but it has taken a shift.
I’m very transitional but moody. I always buy things and ask myself: will I love it in the long run or is it something I will regret buying after a while. If I answer in the long run, I buy. I have furnitures, lamps, arts that I have for over 20 years and still love them. My sister who changes her decor every 5 years because it is tranding always ask me when I will get rid of it, especially my very comfy sofa bed that I bought in 1999… as for a year ago, I loved it until… my daughter came back home for a temporary stay that last 18 months with her cat… even with caps on her claws, she shred it. And my sister is so happy beacause she thinks I will get rid of it now that it looks pity full. I got a surprise for her, I will have it refurbished 😂

When I bought my house back in 2020 is when I came to find out that my style is traditional, I always avoided modern decor/furniture.
What is my style? That’s easy, vintage eclectic … I don’t have matching chairs in my dining room or a matching furniture in my living room. About the closest I come to a styled room would be my bedroom … I inherited my Grandma’s Eastlake bedroom suite.
i have absolutely no idea what my style but hoping this video helps me figure it out. :)
Beautiful sweater! Where is it from! I adore the color!
My husband builds what I design, and I bend based on what products we are able to get. 😀

Hi there! How do I find the form for design dilemma?
My style leans Scandi / MCM, but I'd love to add more texture but don't know how to do that with my current style. Suggestions?
there was no vlogmas day 9....
Did anyone else catch the new style she created lol "Franch" French Ranch lol I'd love to see that
I can’t go to a store, lol. I have Walmart, and Canadian Tire, and Home Hardware.
Im a coastal person , shells, rattan, wood elements, sea foam green and over natural elements.
Love Mary from Melbourne
Mine is eclectic poor girl style
That’s ok! It can still look great!
Can you reply with the spelling of Romeo’s favorite line ?
My style is rustic.
Hi
I spy Noël
You copy everything Lone Fox does but yet act like you invented it. Everyone copies everyone, nothing wrong with that.
