I bought the one TNP used in his review video from gunnies. It had the issue of dumping shells after shooting. I sent it in to Keltec, got it back with gen 2 parts, and had no issues since. Flawless now.
It took me 30 seconds to figure out it's designed to load with the shotgun right side up. If you hold it upside down the shells don't align well. Your grinding basically ruined the shotgun. Unloading is easier with this model than any other shotgun I own.
Thankyou, that confirms what I have found also. Before I modified the gun, shells would hang up on either side. After I modified it, they didn't hang up at all, but then it started double feeding. It's just a crappy design. But they replaced the part I modified, and with the new part shells don't stick on one side, And that's the way I have to lean the gun to load it. Again, you shouldn't have to position any shotgun any direction to load it effectively, but otherwise I love this gun. Hope you never have to use it on a bear! Thanks for watching and for commenting 👍

I've used snap caps with all my handguns but when reading reviews about shotgun snap caps, many comments mentioned they were hard to load due to too sharp front edge. So I bought some dummy rounds that are basically regular shells with spongy plastic primers. What I found loading with my right hand is that my thumb got pinched by the shell retainer so I switched to loading with my left with my right hand in carry handle opening. After watching this video, seeing how you are pushing the shell in, I looked at my hand and what I do without knowing it is push in the shell with my thumb while guiding it in place with my index finger. Pushing with my left thumb pushes it up toward the shell retainer. I load with the muzzle down, have had zero problems loading and am also able to maintain my right hand hold on the grip and flip it over for a reload. It is a little awkward but as this is my only home defense shotgun, muscle memory will make me proficient at it. (I can also reload maintaining a right hand hold with muzzle pointed up.) If I had any concerns about needing more than 7 shot gun rounds for home defense, I would have purchased the KSG instead. My backup is my spouce with a FN509 with two 24 round magazines of 9mm.
Okay, that is the best feedback I've had yet. What you said makes perfect sense, and I'm going to try it. So if keltec doesn't have a fix for this edge, I might just keep the KS7 using your method to load it .Thank you so much for your detailed comment! Really appreciated 👍

It's the follower. It may not seem like it, but it is. It's a common issue with both Kel Tec shotguns. I'm not exactly sure why Kel Tec still sells these with the shitty white plastic followers in there.. but they do. The issue you're experiencing is that the plastic follower itself is getting hung up on the edges of the magazine tube -- which causes it to stick, which then makes it hard to actually feed a round in reliably. Replace the follower with the aluminum one they make, that'll solve your feeding issue.
Just picked up my 7 today and yes it's definitely that the follower gets stuck really good. Even pushing on it directly without trying to load a shell you really have to smash down on that thing to get it to pop. Great way to skin your knuckle. Thanks for the suggestion going to try the aluminum follower
Only shells mine don’t like are the mini shells, I have to fight to load them, everything else I’ve tried load fine, had one hang up ejecting a low brass shell once otherwise it’s ate everything
I've got this same problem. Sent it in once and when I got it back I was able to load a little better, but still have trouble loading most shells. I've found that slugs load just fine due to the slightly rounded end of the shell. Buckshot and target loads tend to hang up though. Please update if you hear back cuz I've been waiting on a response from their gunsmithing team for a month now and still haven't heard anything. Thanks for the video
Thanks for sharing your experience! I had sent three emails over 2 weeks, and didn't get a response, I called a couple days ago and the tech said he is positive they can fix my problem, and wants me to send it in again. Well I'll be shipping it in today. I'll make a follow-up video for sure after I get it back. Thanks again for watching and for commenting 👍
Try replacing the magazine follower..my plastic follower sticks and makes it difficult to start the first shell.. I am looking for a metal one to replace it
Had to slick up the big edges with a dremel, then polish, then polish, then grease, and it runs well. Does it run as well as a 590? No, no it does not.
Same exact problem. Not to mention the hurt my thumb goes through in that final push to seat the shell. That little retaining hook is going to pinch the shit out of your thumb unless you do it just right
So there's Garand Thumb and now I think we can add KS7 Thumb to the list. I'm not keeping mine, I have tried several different methods of reloading it and it still wants to shred whatever you use to push the shells in. It's a shotgun I want to love but it's not worth the extra effort when there are many other platforms with much easier reloading techniques.
@@bobcat3905 LOL KS7 THUMB! YESSSSS I never thought of that! Another reason I love youtube is the commoners are often so creative 🙂 Hilarious! Thanks for your comment 👍
Use gloves and index finger 😂 it aint that hard. I use mechanix gloves. I can go in recklessly and doesnt mess me up like freeballing it without a glove.
I purchased the KS7 based on all the FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL reviews of how FUN it is to shoot, and it looks really cool. Also, light weight, easy to manipulate compared to a regular shotgun such as a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/590 with an 18.5 in barrel. So I reluctantly traded in my ~40 year old Mossberg 590 with a 20" barrel that was very reliable. The dealer gave me a grim $200 for it and it was in perfect shape, but I really wanted that ultra-cool bullpup shotgun hanging on the wall. After reading the instruction book and watching several RUclips videos on disassembly, I took my new KS7 apart to clean and lubricate it since it was brand new. Wow, the sound it made when I racked the slide was impressive. SO COOL. BUT THEN, when I went to load shells in the tube is when I had the OMG moment. I will admit, I am 70 and my thumbs are not the strongest, but I have never had a problem loading any other pump shotgun, until now. They would not even enter the feed tube at all. Like I was hitting a wall. How could that be. This should be so simple. I tried several time and finally managed to load a few but it was not intuitive. So I started looking for internet and RUclips information on what the problem might be and thinking maybe I even re-assembled it wrong. The short of the story is that I did notice that cheap plastic "piston" that the shells push against (with the spring on the tube side) was very rough and had scratches in it. This white piston was very flimsy. It would stick even without trying to push a shell into the tube. So I took some very fine steel wool and smoothed it out. Cleaned it up, and lubricated the feed tube and spring again. The piston seem better. So I started loading it the way some people recommend, which is to lay the shotgun shell flat on the feed ramps before starting the push into the tube. That did help and I was able to feed 7 without one locking up at the entrance. But, I notice it was not easy or smooth. There are a lot of sharp edges, as you pointed out for the shell tip or the brass rim to catch on the way into the tube. I tried 2 3/4 low brass, high brass, and 3" high brass. I was able to feed them but I was being very careful and working in perfect conditions on my workbench with good lighting. I decided in the end that the KS7 may be fun to shoot and easy to load if you have 30 year old thumbs and want it for recreational shooting. But I was looking for reliability for home defense with 70 year old thumbs, where, heaven forbid, I have to reload the shotgun in stressful conditions in the dark, somewhere in my house, in a hurry, because the 1st 7 rounds were not enough. SO..... I went back to my gun dealer (fantastic guy) who still had my trusty Mossberg 590 in his shop (only two weeks had elapsed), and I traded in the absolutely new, never fired, but now considered used, KS7 and got my reliable Mossberg 590 back. I lost $105 but it was worth it to me. Live and learn. I hope Kel-Tec fine tunes the KS7, because it does have potential. It just wasn't a shotgun that I want to depend on for home defense.
Great story, thank you for sharing all that information. Sorry you had to trade it in. I too am looking forward to a revision of this shotgun. Right now I'm keeping mine, even though it's a pain to load, I've decided to keep it. I agree with you though, nothing equals a good Mossberg pump. Thanks for watching and sharing your story 👍
I've never had problems with mine. Maybe I'm just lucky. Absolutely love it. It sounds crazy but it's a great grouse hunting gun. After using it for a while you will definitely get better at reloading it. Not a problem at all for me now.
anesthesiadreamin around 7 1/2 shot. No choke. The woods near me are super dense and your lucky if you get past a 20 yard shot so quick spread is important.
Bro, the manual says to angle the shell 45degrees at first while pushing to engage the load spring, then u can go 90 to degrees an push it the rest of the way....
Come on bro, I'm a guy, I don't read directions 😂 And even if a 45° angle would keep The shells from catching on the rim that shouldn't be there, it's stupid for a manufacturer to engineer a gun that requires a protractor to put a shotgun shell in. Just saying. I finally switched to a Beretta And it loads without any issues at any angle, and eats everything. A lot of people like this KS7 gun, and don't have any problems, but other people complain about this same thing as well. It's just not for me anymore
Bought a pmr30 and sent it in for a broken feed ramp. Keltec lost my gun while it was at the factory and after over a month of me calling and asking about it they finally tell me theyve reported it stolen and now i have to deal with the ATF and they wont issue a refund or replacement until the ATF finds the firearm or closes the case. So im out $600. I learned a weeo after i sent it in that you can buy aftermarket feed ramps made of steel... I refuse to send anything back in to keltec for repairs. If i cant fix it myself then im better off selling it at a loss to someone that wants a project gun. Their firearms arent consistent. Maybe you get one that works great and has zero issues or maybe you get a lemon that just refuses to work no matter how many times you read the manual and send it in for repairs.
Dude why would you take a dremel to a brand new gun with a life time warranty. Anyways...is it all fixed and working properly now that its back from keltec?
I know! But actually I've had a handful of guns, brand new, that didn't work from the factory, that I've had to modify, from ARs to bolt guns and handguns. But the bottom line is, they never acknowledged my problem, other commoners have had the same problem, I even sent a video to kel-tech, they never mentioned it after I sent it back twice. So I basically gave up. Be sure to watch part 2, the link is at the end of the first video.
@@anesthesiadreamin Tbh looks like what you were talking about in the video is that little metal finger that you said was getting in the way is actually spring activated and you can push upwards while youre pushing shells in the magazine. Maybe yours was a little stiff out of the box and getting stuck in the up or down position, that would also explain the double feeds. I would try removing that metal finger and filing down and rough spots on it and also check its spring and that everything is moving smoothly with it.
I would argue, the weapon is still reliable for home defense. Having it preloaded with 8 rounds, is probably more than enough to handle an intruder(s). One or two rounds per intruder, lol.
Yes! I do agree with you. At least half of me does. The other half thinks reloading a shotgun is just as important as shooting it, ie, keeping it fed. I think that situation might only exist if I'm having to do suppressive fire. Which I hope never happens of course 🙂 So I am practicing reloading it, I'm tilting it to one side, and the shells for the most part seem to slide in easily then. Hey thanks for watching and for your good comments 👍
@@BangersandBullets I get it, friend. But I bet Keltec will get it working if you send it back to them, like they did mine. It runs fine now, but I'm still annoyed at the loading issue, which they never fixed. I don't blame you for wanting to get rid of it though. Hopefully their next generation will be better
@@anesthesiadreamin if I can't get through the break-in period of rounds then it's out the door and on to a better protection tool. These are two major issues.. loading complications and double feeding causing the weapon to jam makes it worthless in my eyes.
Hello! This is gonna come off totally noobish but I don't care. I also have watched a bunch of videos about this gun but yours is the 1st one I've seen where someone actually unloaded a round without firing or pumping the action. How did you do that? I assume pushing the round slightly in to get the catch off of it would be the ticket, which is kind of what it looks like you did, but that doesn't work when I try it....
Yes! You are right. You have to push the little catch up if the gun is in the upside down position. And then one shell will pop out, I guess if you held the little catch up, then they might all come out. But I haven't tried that yet 🙂
I called Kel-tec, sent it back and they fixed the light strike and double feed problem. Never fixed the loading issue though after sending it back twice. Runs great now, just sort of a pain to load it. Just call them, they will send you a shipping label, and will "fluff and buff" it and make it work.
Yes, working fine, no longer double feeding or light primer strikes. They still didn't fix the edges that catch the shells, because I don't think they can. Down. If you bevel it, so the shells feed smoothly, then the edge of the brass slips around, and causes double feeding. So I just put up with it, tip it to the left to load it, then it loads pretty good
@@10MMRUT I quit counting at 350. Then I sent it in. So to date it has about 500 through it. But high round count doesn't help the lip that sticks out. I mean it's not like feeding plastic shotgun shells are going to wear the metal down right? Anyhow, It seems to be running well, But having to finagle the shells just to get down to go into the magazine is still a pain. Otherwise, it's my very favorite gun 👍
I'm not sure if you already said you did this and I missed it but I think you have to have your slide/pump to the rear to load it just thought you might want to know if this helps
Ok, probably just me and I am not trying to be a smart ass here, on top of which, I have been watching the KS7 for sometime and actually think it may be better than my (several) KSG's (ksg's are just way too heavy and that goes double if you load in a shitload of mini-shell slugs) but..... I feel that all of the bevelling, grinding and gun smithing you do to your new gun is simply one big Kobi-ashi-Maru. A no win scenario as the manufactures hold too much power over your warranty (or lack thereof). If one of my guns don't work. I am not doing anything to it but return it. If that don't punch my ticket, I will remove the gun from the fleet and trade it in. I hate to hear the KS7 is this pooched! I wish it were otherwise. Thank you for the reports. It certainly helps the rest of us thinking about Keltec. //ji
Your reply was very timely for me! I was going to stop at a gun shop today and ask about trading it in on a KSG. But now I think I'm going to keep the KS7. It's running well now, no double feeds or light primer strikes. Loading the chamber takes a little bit of finagling , but I think I can live with it. And I do agree with you about modifying it, it is a risk, and I've decided I'm not going to re-modify this one 😁 hey, thanks for watching and for your valuable feedback 👍
Well if you’re using this gun for home defense, I sure hope you won’t have to reload that shotgun. You either can’t shoot for shit or if you need more than 12 rounds maybe you should use a rifle and a 30 round magazine. Or move the hell out of the area you live in.
Update video still pending, but I've sent it back again, so twice, and it still has the same problem. Since then I've emailed them asking them to watch the video and to just let me know if there's a fix or not. No response so far
Keltecs concepts are great, but they are poorly designed and the opposite of reliable. Examples: plastic or nonexisting feed ramps and magazines that double feed.
These are pieces of shit!!!! I never fired mine yet but when I pull the pump handle back it won’t go forward…..I’m gonna sell mine….. it’s not reliable….bought a 870 tactical…..I’m not sending mine in…I also unfortunately put all new furniture on it…what a waste of time and money….i I don’t sell it I will probably throw it in the ocean…..
Just from watching your video you are refusing to put the shell firmly against the guide and then slide the shell into the tube. The guide is there for a reason and you're not using it. It is not the manufacturers problem when you refuse to use the guide that they install in the weapon.
If you're talking about the follower, the user should not have to square the shell up on the follower in order for it to go in the gun, the chamber should be engineered to funnel the shell without any obstruction. Several commenters below have had the same problem.
@@davemartin756If you watched both videos you would see that I sent it back twice. Both times they sent it back and never fixed the problem. LOL I can count a handful of guns that have come NEW from the factory with something WRONG. See my channel for .300 blk and ruger american issues for those fixes just to name a couple more. No I'm not a gunsmith but it is a crying shame companies release guns that don't work right BRAND NEW, and when sent back to the factory, they NEVER fix them. This KelTec is just another shining example, so yes, if they don't fix, it, I will at least try, so my hard earned money is not a total WASTE. If you want to keep a pile of junk and not try to fix it yourself, then that's your choice.
I have the same problem with mine (brand new). I was completely frustrated with it when trying to load it for the first time. The manual that came in the box (page 9) clearly shows and labels an Inner Catch-Right Side and Outer Catch-Left Side, yet mine looks like yours in that the right side (when gun is upside down) doesn't operate like the left side. The left side is prominent and it tends to push the shell to the right each time, catching on the right side. It makes sense it should have two operating catches on both sides for equal distribution, or it should have one in the center. Copying the link to the manual here if you don't have it. I'm not a gunsmith or an engineer, but this definitely is flawed and I'm surprised the company would let the gun leave the shop like this. blog.keltecweapons.com/hubfs/Firearm%20Manuals/KS7%20Manual%20Complete%20Web%20OPT.pdf

@@anesthesiadreamin Yes, I read Anne C's comment. Although I do appreciate solutions to problems, I don't feel as though I should have to adjust how I hold the gun so that it can be loaded easier. Even pushing on it directly without trying to load a shell you really have to smash down on that thing to get it to pop. Great way to skin your knuckle. Thanks for the suggestion going to try the aluminum follower
Harbor Freight picks for the win ! Albeit should of used a flashlight to illuminate the areas of contention. 😁
I’ve had issue with certain shells. So far I’ve tried 4 different ones. Federal blue box buckshot I could not get them in the tube
@@anesthesiadreamin Hey have you gotten the KS7 back yet? Were they able to fix the issue?
@@joncoyle1204 got it back and no, the lip is still there and it still catches shells
@@anesthesiadreamin Well that sucks. Did you try the left hand loading tip? I haven't had a chance to try it yet.
@@joncoyle1204 yes and it works very well! As long as the gun is tilted with the lip side up that is...
Try replacing the magazine follower..my plastic follower sticks and makes it difficult to start the first shell.. I am looking for a metal one to replace it
Yes, I actually did that, I replaced it with the KT industries I think? And it didn't make a difference for me unfortunately
Had to slick up the big edges with a dremel, then polish, then polish, then grease, and it runs well.
Does it run as well as a 590?
No, no it does not.
So they told me after I dremeled it, that that induced double feeding. Did you have that happen after you dremeled yours?
Same exact problem. Not to mention the hurt my thumb goes through in that final push to seat the shell. That little retaining hook is going to pinch the shit out of your thumb unless you do it just right
EXACTLY. Thanks for your feedback!
Write a book already
😮😊
I've never had problems with mine. Maybe I'm just lucky. Absolutely love it. It sounds crazy but it's a great grouse hunting gun. After using it for a while you will definitely get better at reloading it. Not a problem at all for me now.
I have wondered about hunting with it! What shot/brand do u use, and did u add a choke? Or shooting cylinder bore?
anesthesiadreamin around 7 1/2 shot. No choke. The woods near me are super dense and your lucky if you get past a 20 yard shot so quick spread is important.
I've been lucky. No issues and I've not beveled it. I did fluff and buff tho before shooting after having a KSG.
I see this is about 9 months ago.
What is the verdict???
You send back?? I do not see a follow up video. Advise
I haven’t had trouble at all loading mine upside down. Terrible idea to modify it.
@@anesthesiadreamin be sure to upload a video when you take a dremmel tool to your new beretta!
Thanks for sharing your story! That's pretty awful to hear about
Dude why would you take a dremel to a brand new gun with a life time warranty.
Thank you. Get mine tomorrow. //hi
Then it double feeds and becomes jammed.. or at least that's the problem I'm having
Load it at a 45 degree angle and it’s smooth
mines butter...havent loaded until rite this second an mine loaded an ejected perfectly
What ever happened with this? I can load mine, but it light strikes and won’t fire.
I called Kel-tec, sent it back and they fixed the light strike and double feed problem. Never fixed the loading issue though after sending it back twice. Runs great now, just sort of a pain to load it. Just call them, they will send you a shipping label, and will "fluff and buff" it and make it work.
Hey they gave ya’ll the gun from Halo. Now if you actually want it to work, that’s asking alot.
You ever get the KS7 back from Keltec working properly ?
Yes, working fine, no longer double feeding or light primer strikes. They still didn't fix the edges that catch the shells, because I don't think they can. Down. If you bevel it, so the shells feed smoothly, then the edge of the brass slips around, and causes double feeding. So I just put up with it, tip it to the left to load it, then it loads pretty good
I have one it works great..
Thats what i have heard a few times, some never notice an issue like this. Makes me wonder if they didn't change the manufacturing specs at some point
How many round you put through it honestly?
@@10MMRUT I quit counting at 350. Then I sent it in. So to date it has about 500 through it. But high round count doesn't help the lip that sticks out. I mean it's not like feeding plastic shotgun shells are going to wear the metal down right? Anyhow, It seems to be running well, But having to finagle the shells just to get down to go into the magazine is still a pain. Otherwise, it's my very favorite gun 👍
You have to load the shell 45 degree push down in and then slide genius
I beveled the whole thing and now always loads ! The entire end of the tube
Do you have any problems with it double feeding?
I beveled the whole thing also. Works great now. No double feeding
@@rifleshooter2 Thanks for your response! So do you think that they were wrong saying my beveling job caused the double feeding?
@@anesthesiadreamin depends on how much you beveled it
Find someone else with one and break them both down. Something on the inner rails has to be bent or not attached properly.
I have the same problem. It's been in my safe got 6 months. I need to send it back
I just made a review video on it. Mine is garbage..
I'm not sure if you already said you did this and I missed it but I think you have to have your slide/pump to the rear to load it just thought you might want to know if this helps
Never had an issue....MAC had issues so he said and we all said be a man and dont short stroke the thing smh
I didn't bevel mine and it's double feeding. I have the same issue with loading. I just made a video review on it. It's garbage. I'm selling mine..
Well if you’re using this gun for home defense, I sure hope you won’t have to reload that shotgun. You either can’t shoot for shit or if you need more than 12 rounds maybe you should use a rifle and a 30 round magazine. Or move the hell out of the area you live in.
Thank you, I will buy Benelli :)
Worth it bro!!!
Psa you shouldn’t have to LOAD your home defense weapon it should be ready to go
Exactly
Any update??
Update video still pending, but I've sent it back again, so twice, and it still has the same problem. Since then I've emailed them asking them to watch the video and to just let me know if there's a fix or not. No response so far
Keltecs concepts are great, but they are poorly designed and the opposite of reliable. Examples: plastic or nonexisting feed ramps and magazines that double feed.
Nice try Kel-Tec! Trying to get my money by putting this video up so I'll send it in to you huh? They're at it again :) lol JUST KIDDING
LOL 😆
These are pieces of shit!!!! I never fired mine yet but when I pull the pump handle back it won’t go forward…..I’m gonna sell mine….. it’s not reliable….bought a 870 tactical…..I’m not sending mine in…I also unfortunately put all new furniture on it…what a waste of time and money….i I don’t sell it I will probably throw it in the ocean…..
If you can't sell it, it'll look good on your wall 🙂 at least it's a cool looking gun
Just from watching your video you are refusing to put the shell firmly against the guide and then slide the shell into the tube. The guide is there for a reason and you're not using it. It is not the manufacturers problem when you refuse to use the guide that they install in the weapon.
What guide?
If you're talking about the follower, the user should not have to square the shell up on the follower in order for it to go in the gun, the chamber should be engineered to funnel the shell without any obstruction. Several commenters below have had the same problem.
Lot of hot air! You should send back to the manufacturer. End of problem. This video is user fault.
@@davemartin756If you watched both videos you would see that I sent it back twice. Both times they sent it back and never fixed the problem. I talked with them 3 times about it, were super helpful on the phone, but didn't fix the problem. You are welcome to buy it at the local gun shop if u think Im blowing hot air LOL
Maybe don’t try and gunsmith if you don’t know what your doing it’s not a toy
LOL I can count a handful of guns that have come NEW from the factory with something WRONG. See my channel for .300 blk and ruger american issues for those fixes just to name a couple more. No I'm not a gunsmith but it is a crying shame companies release guns that don't work right BRAND NEW, and when sent back to the factory, they NEVER fix them. This KelTec is just another shining example, so yes, if they don't fix, it, I will at least try, so my hard earned money is not a total WASTE. If you want to keep a pile of junk and not try to fix it yourself, then that's your choice.
Typical K-T crap.
Thank you for the manual, I have misplaced mine. I was looking for it yesterday! How timely. Also, be sure to check out some of the other comments on this video, one person ANNE C (IIRC) had some great advice on how they load the gun, without the round sticking. That's what I'm doing right now while waiting to hear back from Kel-Tec to see if they have a solution. Thanks for watching and for your comments 👍
@@anesthesiadreamin Yes, I read Anne C's comment. Although I do appreciate solutions to problems, I don't feel as though I should have to adjust how I hold the gun so that it can be loaded easier. It's a bottom loading/ejecting gun and they pitch it to be ambidextrous, so why should I have to hold it with a certain hand for loading. I believe if the gun were built the way it is depicted in the manual, there wouldn't be an issue.
@@toddpiskadlo8845You are absolutely right, I agree 100%.
