Have you done a video on how to make the wood pieces for the parrot toys? What kind of wood do you use, where do you get your wood, how do you cut it (what's your set up, what kind of tools, etc), how do you drill the holes, etc? I'm a complete novice on woodworking but have been an umbrella cockatoo owner for nearly 20 years so I want to start building my own toys for her from scratch.
Well not in that detail! But I go to Home Depot and buy 2x2 untreated pine (you know because treated looks greenish) I drill the holes first before cutting the wood! I use a 1/4“ wood drill bit that is about 4 inch long! I cut the into like 6 inch pieces with a table saw I have ! Then color them like you see in the video! I use stainless steel chains or a chain that was from an old toy!!! My boy loves it!! The pine is super cheap ! 🤗🤗 please always ask with any questions you have ! Happy to help when I can!! 😊😊
Erin Turner I go get off cuts of wood for free then drill a hole in the middle with a drill I got in Aldi for 30 quid, then I wanted to dye em I wasn’t sure if food dye would work it dose but I got bird toy dye that comes out more vibrant..I reuse the chains
Bluesidian I know, one of the main reasons why Cockatoo’s are gotten rid off 😞 all the time. My main reason for making my videos! Know going in that they are looouuud.
Thank you!! I use any food coloring! Got to be human grade of course but I am sure they are all! There Are organic ways to color your wood pieces like using beet juice or grape juice or carrot juice! But I worry about bacteria because it is food! You can buy organic food coloring at Whole Foods too ! 😊😊😊
Awesome, I'm going to set some time aside on a weekend and make 6 months worth for my grey! Store bought toys are silly money, i've literally watched my grey destroy a 17 euro toy in 10 mins
Would there be a chance that the pine tree had been exposed to a pesticide before it was cut down? I was told never give them out door woods for that reason. Is that true also?
Well all woods are outdoor woods! Home Depot Marks their wood with a light green tint to show it is treated! I mean the only way you can be sure is to plant your own trees! 😊😊 I have not any issues at all ! As long as you use the untreated wood!
I go to Home Depot and buy untreated pine wood! 2x2 great for the bigger birds !! Make sure it’s untreated (you‘ll know treated wood has a green hue to it)
Mercadez Hernandez I reuse the chains from old toys! You can buy them online but I rather reuse what I have! I always make sure when I buy a new toy that it has a chain so I can reuse it!!
I’m testing between two different food dyes gel and normal and the bird toy dye that’s much more expensive...I’m not sure yet.i heard someone say there bird was shitting pink after food dye..red I’m guessing and be careful there’s no flavour to them or you bird will eat it ..that’s not good.
Why haven’t more people watched this?Such a great idea. Other videos are annoying to watch. I like how straight forward this video is
