If you dont want to use shape keys in edit mode you can do it in geometry nodes. Import your spheres with object info nodes set to relative>join geometry>mesh to volume>volume to mesh. You can now animate with key frames
Thanks for this tutorial. I have tried to apply this tutorial with blender 4.2 but can't find the nodes you mentionned (transform mesh, mesh object, distribute matrices etc.)
animation nodes is a free addon that you can download from the description and these nodes are still available. However, also knowing that due to the development of geometry nodes, this tutorial is highly outdated that you can complete it with geometry nodes built in blender without extra addons.
Hi! Geat thanks for the tuts you've made! Can anyone help me? What if the object I am dividing with animation nodes has a parented object? (Actually a bacteria inside the sphere). How to remain their instances connected?
I don't think having a parent object will have some impact. Shouldn't object mesh data node still read the information properly? Or you may also use object matrix input or so to use an object to define the location of your object.
If you mean the exact animation at rhe beginning, I would say the principle is very easy, it will be so easy to do in current geometry nodes that I won't make a particular tutorial for this matter. Personally I was making more real celluar division ruclips.net/video/ge6sM42sDm0/видео.html. but tutorial is unlikely before 4.0 beta.

You are right. nevertheless at the time of recording in blender 2.83, geometry nodes were nearly nonexistent
you saved my life. Thank you!!!
Your tutorial helped a lot! Ty!

how can we set a keyframe for that ? splitting something

is there any update on geometry nodes of this please?
