It’s just getting worse mate, those flats as we both know will be left for years, I think people at the council should be held responsible and named and shamed for what they’ve done to this city.
Every major gateway into this shit hole of a city centre is either decaying or been carpet bombed and left for folks to just dump rubbish on. We will have no doubt some major plans flaunted about in the sentinel every now and then but nothing will materialise nothing ever does in this city.
A big problem is that many companies, big and small, have disappeared over the last 20 years, so there are much less employment opportunities. That goes for pretty much any town or city in the UK, in 2024. If the UK was forced to manufacture most of it's sundry items, maybe things would change, but currently, almost everything comes from overseas - and that's a recipe for future disaster.
I agree. There are only 950, 000 live vacancies in the uk and 9.2 million unemployed but the government are watering down the true figure to 1.46 million liars
@@quintencrispanddried1108 I keep plugging away stoke is and always will be my home town and where the heart is but… it’s important to show the dark side of it and hopefully shame the people who have let it get to this situation to the bigger audience because I feel like we are the forgotten city 😔
I agree totally! It is so sad looking at our towns now. As a child I had so many fond memories of stoke, it is a crying shame what it has become.@@DJMtv1938
It's a great sadness to see all this. As I've said on other vids of yours, I lived around Stoke for a fairly long time and when I watch pieces like this and see areas I know very well so declined it really is depressing. When the pubs and garages are gone you know things are bad. I used to go to the "Three Tuns" at the top end of Bucknall New Road (just across the road from those flats where you started) every week at one time. It was an old place and the quirk that made it so memorable is that it had plenty of space for parking bikes in the stable yard that was in the middle. One thing that is really making me feel old myself as I watch your travels is that the council have so chopped things up that I sometimes have trouble pinning down where you are until I see something I recognise ... or more often when I realise something is missing - such as no Mike Lloyds on Brunswick Street. Seeing that gone reminded me of Terry Bloods on Piccadilly and Lotus Records in the arcade - three good record shops in shouting distance of each other. It seems like ancient history but Lloyds was still there in the 90's I think. EDIT: on that note, having a stroll about on Google Maps and is it my memory fading or has TK Max being 'installed' over the footprint of the Market Arcade?
A bit more virtual nosing around and it somehow says it all that Webberley's, a great book and art supply shop, is now a bookies. That's a relatively recent change as I was in there not that many years ago - well, I say recent ... it was probably seven years :O
The five Towns and many other areas in Stoke-on-Trent have become so run down and neglected that I fear there is no phoenix rising from any ashes here ever...the dismal areas remind me of the film Escape from NY is that their plan? is there more to it? I digress and despair, thanks for another great informative and honest video 😔
I escaped Stoke in 1990 , after that massive recession of the early 80's it went into free fall and sadly never recovered. I still have great affection for the place but only Government intervention on a Liverpool scale will rescue Stoke. The finances are beyond any city council when all your major industries got decimated back in the 80's. ❤
I think has one of the other viewers has previously said it’s time for the government to step in because by the end of next year we are going to be another Birmingham council the council has more or less put us on notice here that it’s heading that way.
Building the maximum number of dwellings, for the cheapest price in the smallest amount of space is often a recipe for disaster. This is what happens in a grossly overpopulated country. People ( especially with families ) need homes with gardens of a good size which they can tend and take pride in.
There is a chronic shortage of social housing in this country. Thousands of families with children in temporary 1 room accommodation, yet they still house and feed illegal immigrants for free. What about the people with generations of family that worked and fought for the freedom of this country suffering with nowhere to live
@@DJMtv1938 . It's seems to be happening everywhere mate in the cities. It's even worse in America around LA and California, yet the Governments still keep pouring money into foreign aid and immigration. It's almost as though it's being done on purpose
If countries and governments can find the money to rebuild towns and cities in places like Ukraine, theres always hope for this place. Its just knowbody is interested and our Council are not doing enough to promote this city to gain interest from buisnesses. Our Council are totaly useless, i genuinely hope they do go bankrupt maybe that will be the beginning of a new start for the city.

Stoke on Trent council is tearing down 55 flats in Hanley but with no new properties going in the place but most places in stoke have been flattened or left to rot. (Stoke is a dead city)
At least Bodens newsagents is still there, though I assume the miserable old git that used to run it in the 80s and 90s is long gone. Ended the video going past the Best Western, where Adam Faith had his fatal heart attack. Most actors wouldn't be seen dead in Stoke, but Adam didn't let us down.
@@DJMtv1938 that’s true and before we no it we won’t have no shops left no supermarkets as near on everything is online as for houses well can we actually call them houses or slums these days
Maybe a long shot but our Council becoming bankrupt might turn out to be a good thing. It'll mean the city will come under government control, i think anyway i stand corrected by that. Maybe then they will see the total deprivation of this city and might start to do more to rebuild the city.
