I think they have covered lack of regulation and enforcement in the video by BWSSB and lack of drought plans and city planning. As a news agency, they cannot talk about corruption unless they have solid proof about it, we can obviously talk in public discourse because most of us know the bribes that different agencies take to look sideways when some builders and corporations are illegally making borewells. Let’s assume we blame all levels of government, basis this, an optimistic view is government will make more pipelines to the city and pump in more water. Pessimistic view is that government doesn’t do anything about it. Anyway, politicians will not act on it unless people hold them accountable by voting on such issues rather than on non essential issues. In either case, is it a sustainable solution if usage of every resident is unchecked? It should be a combination of education, governance, regulation and enforcement and future city planning but huge work should also be done by residents to change life long habits and also help with rainwater harvesting and ground water rejuvenation.

KC valley is not good. People are facing lot of health issues with the treated water, the hazardous substances are entering the ground water also with stp treated water. They are doing secondary treatment in stp but that is not enough they should tertiary treatment also which is costly

Suggesting that ground water is “shallow”, I.e easily accessible due to “pipeline leakage” shows she has no grasp on reality. Also shipping water across the city in diesel trucks is prohibitively expensive, not to mention the huge pollution and traffic congestion that it would cause. Strict enforcement of rules is the only way. We have people flaunting the ground water harvesting rules and building associations routinely connect their sewage lines to storm water lines causing the immense pollution of our lakes. Government corruption is the root cause. Madam Layalalitha has shown us how effective administration can effectively solve this problem. South India is not water stressed. It is only poorly managed.
