All I can ever think of when you show / talk about Black Sun is your husband describing it as "He had his eyes taken out....... and saved them for later" xD

Blood Song is one of my favourite fantasy series and I feel like it's sooo underhyped! To be fair you are probably the first booktuber I came across that mentioned it. But anyway, I absolutely adore this series and definitely recommend to continue past book 1. It was a complete page turner for me with all the aspects that Anthony Ryan introduces in the story but doesn't explain until later. I feel like re-reading it now just talking about it 😍

Ah yes... The navy seals training.... For children!?!? 😂 Sounds like a great read. I'll add it to the endless hoard of books I sleep on at night.

My favourite fantasy books for the last 2 months is the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett. I am really enjoying the witch series. I am already in the last of the witch main series "Carpe Jugulum" and when I finish it I will start the Death series.

I'm trying to go from start to finish in discworld publishing order... Every time I pick it up it's a delight, but I really need physical books I think... My Kindle isn't doing it for me with discworld.

@@tylerharrell9862 I get very frustrated with footnotes on a Kindle and with Discworld, the footnotes are almost like another character! I need physical copies for those ones, definitely.

I was definitely underwhelmed by A Darker Shade of Magic after hearing all the hype. I will possibly go back and give it another chance to see what the next 2 books are like, but I have SO many other exciting books to read that I won't get round to it any time soon! Maybe I'll have forgotten the story and be pleasantly surprised if I re-read it in several years...

I really enjoyed the first and third books in the series but the second book felt completely unnecessary to me. A lot of what happens in it feels like it could've been avoided if the characters just didn't make dumb choices, choices that also seemed to have no repercussions in the long run.

I know Earthsea is technically categorized as YA, it's really quite mature. It's only YA by the most superficial metrics. The story itself, the prose style, the character development and many of the events that unfold are very much appropriate for adults. As such, I'd recommend Earthsea to anyone who wants to embark on a fantasy series that isn't written by Sanderson.

Yes for Blood Song! I have read the sequel and I think it's also amazing. Is it as good as Blood Song? No, but that's true for a lot of books to be honest. 😂 It's different because you have multiple POVs, but it's still a 4-4.5 star read in my opinion.
The Wolf of Oren-Yaro (and the rest of the trilogy) is on my TBR for 2022, my hopes are high after hearing your thoughts!

Loved Blood Song. Really liked Tower Lord (really, it's not as horrible as the reviews made it to be.) Disliked the climax of the third book, Queen of Fire, but most of the book was enjoyable enough.

I read a couple of other VE Schwab books before A Darker Shade of Magic came out and I loved those other books, but didn't love it. I think part of it was just that I wasn't in the mood for a book with that much world building at the time. I still do want to go back and re-read it and then read the other two because I do genuinely enjoy her writing.

It was great to hear your thoughts on "Best Served Cold." I can't decide what I think about Abercombrie. I read the First Law trilogy. I liked it but didn't love it. Great characters but the plot was pretty weak and, as I think you said in your review, the ending is kind of lame. But I feel like I should try another Abercrombrie so maybe I'll give BSC a shot.

Blood song was amazing 10/10 but goes downhill very rapidly in the following books. Kinda just fizzles out and gets lost in the world, and doesn't tie anything up in a satisfactory manner. Just jlgets more and more boring/slow.
