Fantastic recording. Such lightness in the playing and such a refreshing tempo. Like a breath of fresh air.

Jahrhundert!

I don't think so...it's too fast and too nervous to me

+rva25 idk, I feel most Beethoven interpretations are too plodding for me, so I like this. Doesn't seem nervous to me at all. Just alive.
But, everyone has their own taste. I do think most of our tastes on Beethoven are influenced by what I would call "slow, plodding, elephant like" tempos most take.
But to others, this is "nervous, inelegant, worried," which I can see as unbecoming to Beethoven.

I was shocked by how good the piano playing, I had never before noticed the beauty of the piano part of the spring sonata. Then, I learn of course it's a concert pianist playing the accompaniment. Of course it's excellent. Haha.

Some feel it was a bit too quick, but giving the joy associated with spring, I wonder whether this speed was exactly what was in Beethoven's feeling when he composed this wonderful sonata. I still like this one better than the Perlman-Ashkenazy version
Thanks for this uploading once more, it fills me with joy in times of general suffering.

As a professional violinist and teacher, I can assure you this is not too fast. Too many violinists get overly emotional with the gorgeous melodies of this sonata and drag it out, to the detriment of the music.

    1.5 kHz -1dB, 2.2 rHz - 3 dB, 3.1 kHz - 5 dB, 4.4 kHz - 6 dB, 6.2 kHz - 7 dB, 8.7 - 17 kHz - 3 dB,

Unfortunately the recording quality doesn’t do justice to these extra-ordinary performers. Most of Gilels’ records are Reference quality, i.e. the standard of interpretations. Kogan wasn’t widely known in the West, he was not allowed International performances, and didn’t have powerful promoters, unlike Gilels ( Artur Rubinstein, Szell and others in the USA). Yet Kogan’s ensemble performances with Gilels were top notch. After his early death, Gilels played with Oistrakh- another incompatible, stupendous violinist.

A bit too quick... and the recording quality is not so satisfactory so a little disappointing to be honest
Like the perlman/Ashkenazy or the classic oistrakh/oborin set better

+Jordan Jeong to be fair, Gilels's golden tone still shines through. The violin otoh is captured rather poorly
