Way back in the mid '80s I was working as a lighting engineer for a sound and light company and we were setting up for a huge fair. In those days I was a rocker and didn't know much about country music so I had no idea who the main act was. As I was assembling a light bar a guy gets out of the tour bus and walks over and asks me what I was doing. I said I was fixing up some lights for the show. He asked if I'd like to go for a walk with him. I looked at my boss and he nodded "yes". So we spent the next :30 or so minutes just walking around the fair. I introduced myself and he introduced himself as David. He was a very nice guy. I had no idea who David was. Later I saw him on stage. Now many years later I'm a big fan of "David" - the guy I didn't know. LOL
My wife and i used to sing this together; cancer took her in 2001. Only time i've sung it since was karaoke with my 3 daughters as a tribute to her, but i still listen to it often.
I heard Clint Eastwood say in an interview that as soon as he heard this song he told the producer & director that he wanted this song in Every Which Way But Loose. Then he said after he talked to David Frizzell & told David that the song was going to be in the movie, he told David that this song was a real hot pistol & that this song would be around for a while. Man...was Clint Eastwood right!!! I love this song...it's on my MP3 player that I listen to often while walking my dogs in my neighborhood. Much love from Mobile Alabama.
There's a full moon over Tulsa I hope that it's shining on you The nights are getting cold In Cherokee County There's a Blue Norther passing through I remember green eyes and a ranchers daughter But remember is all that I do Losing you left a pretty good cowboy With nothing to hold on to Sundown came and I drove to town And drank a drink or two You're the reason God made Oklahoma You're the reason God made Oklahoma And I'm sure missing you I'm sure missing you Here the city lights out shine the moon I was just now thinking of you Sometimes when the wind blows you can see the mountains And all the way to Malibu Everyone's a star here in L.A. County You oughta see the things that they do All the cowboys down on the Sunset Strip Wish that they could be like you The Santa Monica Freeway Sometimes makes a country girl blue You're the reason God made Oklahoma You're the reason God made Oklahoma And I'm sure missing you I work 10 hours on a John Deere tractor Just thinking of you all day I've got a calico cat and a two room flat On a street in West L.A. You're the reason God made Oklahoma You're the reason God made Oklahoma And I'm sure missing you I'm sure missing you
I really miss those days, brings tears to my eyes thinking about all the musical greats that are gone now and the old days. As of March 2023 David is still alive. But we’ve lost singers like Gearge Jones, Keith Whitley, Conway Twitty,, Tammy Wynette, Lari White, Daryle Singletary, Mindy McCready, Joe Diffie. There are many others but those come to mind right now. We honor them by remembering and listening to their music. RIP
I have been born & raised here in Oklahoma & have lived here my whole life! This state means so so much to me & I love everything & every inch of it. Look at all the Country & singers in general we have produced. This is such a wonderful state & o yeah BOOMER SOONER
Will always love Shelly West. She is one of the most underrated and overlooked women in the history of country music. Music legends spotted in the room: Larry Gatlin/Charlie Pride/Roy Clark/ Crystal Gayle/Little Jimmy Dickens/ Roger Miller????.....not sure about Roger.
1991 flew on the same plane, American Airlines....from Brussels, Belgium to Austin, Tx...changing planes in Chicago, was on the same plane with Allan Frizzell from Brussels, Belgium to Chicago with his band members. I was the only one who knew who they were. Allan started playing his guitar everyone got excited! It was a hell of a party on the plane, it made the flight so much shorter. [We] landed in Chicago, hugged and said good bye......He also asked me for some gum. Took lots of pics with him and his band.
Met Shelly West in Hendersonville a few years back, she was very nice. Always loved her voice and Dottie's too! Longtime fan of the Frizzell's too God bless
I saw Shelly many years ago at the CA State Fair in Sacramento with Dotty. It was a great concert. I met Dottie's band at the entrance to the fair. I told them I came just to see Dotty. But Shelly was there too. What a surprise? Loved them both.
Great song, great singers and they still have that chemistry and fun together. A relaxed, real, honest performance. Song co-written by the great, legendary youthfully-energetic double-neck Mosrite guitar whiz , Oklahoman Larry Collins (of Larry & Lorrie - The Collins Kids). I love the Bryants - Felice & Boudleaux - but can't believe they sued Larry and the co-writer over copyright infringement claiming the song had the "same melody"? as the Bryants' "Rocky Top"....huh? I can hear a little here and there, but geez....Bryants won (!) and their names are now attached to the copyright.
Songs that try to imply that LA and NYC are places country people know have always kind of bugged me… 😂. “Stay in your lane.” There aren’t cowboys on the Sunset Strip wanting to be like a farmer in Oklahoma. Nor are Southern/Midwestern girls intimately familiar with LA freeways, no matter how many of them move west trying to become actors 😂…

They don't make country music like this today. Brilliantly done. Still sounding great after all these years.

The chemistry between these two is always refreshing. I know she’s married to his brother, but they just click naturally.
Now that's what I call a damn good country western song.

There's a full moon over Tulsa
I hope that it's shining on you
The nights are getting cold
In Cherokee County
There's a Blue Norther passing through
I remember green eyes and a ranchers daughter
But remember is all that I do
Losing you left a pretty good cowboy
With nothing to hold on to
Sundown came and I drove to town
And drank a drink or two
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
And I'm sure missing you
I'm sure missing you
Here the city lights out shine the moon
I was just now thinking of you
Sometimes when the wind blows you can see the mountains
And all the way to Malibu
Everyone's a star here in L.A. County
You oughta see the things that they do
All the cowboys down on the Sunset Strip
Wish that they could be like you
The Santa Monica Freeway
Sometimes makes a country girl blue
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
And I'm sure missing you
I work 10 hours on a John Deere tractor
Just thinking of you all day
I've got a calico cat and a two room flat
On a street in West L.A.
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
You're the reason God made Oklahoma
And I'm sure missing you
I'm sure missing you

David and Shelly did this, one of the best country songs EVER, and coincidentally they seem to be 2 of the best people around also. Thank you both.
Two of the greatest voices to Ever come out of the world of Country Music.
I have been born & raised here in Oklahoma & have lived here my whole life! This state means so so much to me & I love everything & every inch of it. Look at all the Country & singers in general we have produced. This is such a wonderful state & o yeah BOOMER SOONER

She aged well. I saw them in concert when this was a hit. She's the reason I still have a thing for redheads.
Love these two!!!!💞
Boy, did I have a crush on her... great job, even years ago.
Sadly, several of the country music stars there, are no longer with us.
She’s the reason why I love redheads! She’s gorgeous!
Reminds me of a green eyed cowboy from Tulsa !
Keep coming back. Great
Contemporary country royalty....
Love them
Miss Dottie 🙏🌹🙏🌹🙏
A LOT of talent sitting in that room............

Shelly still reminds me of her mama, Dottie.

That is one lovely lady. Where are you lady?
