Always a fan of Sarah Richardson’s designs. In this case, I don’t care for the floor. Love the wooden chairs.
Wait! We didn’t get to see the bathrooms and bedrooms! It looks good, but come on Sarah, enough with the white.
Love it all!!❤️
Thank you! I like it.
I hate the green floor
I don't mind painting the wood, but I wish she wouldn't always paint ALL the wood. It could have looked so pretty with white between wooden beams...
Especially when the wood is beautifully aged and perfectly fits with location. Yes, white = bright, but white is not always right.
The wood looked really worn and old in most places. Painting was the right choice, and even Alex thinks so, and he was against it from the start - until he saw it!
I disagree. Leaving the beams unpainted would’ve been distracting to the eye. Painting it all is very conducive and look seamless
@@Happybidr they're told how to react....
The green floor is fresh …. Like a Granny Smith Apple….. it’s a rental, so you stay there a week or two and it makes you smile….
I don't like the floor color....
Same here.. bad choice..
Old Novels: No - I have never read any of the novels at vrbo's, left there by owners; if one is a reader, one brings their own book
Floor: No - nice color green, but not on the floor
White - No - some white is fine, but this is too stark; should have left wood beam on ceiling
Cozy Wood Cabin - No - not cozy at all,
The View - is Great!
The Location - kinda Great? But one is isolated and needs to get there by 30 min. boat ride...no running to corner store for milk!
It was going really well until my eyes fell on the green floor. The reason for using white is the light it brings to a room and it's role in framing the wonderful views. However, I'm afraid the green floor immediately takes the eye down unfortunately and the view becomes secondary. The one thing that should have truly stayed the color of "wood" was the floor or even a dark color would have played off nicely in contrast to the white walls.
However the cleaning aspect was an issue, Sara was correct.
@@teresayeates3437 Okay, so the floors were bad and needed to be painted. I get that, but make them disappear with a darker color and provide a wonderful contrast to the white walls and ceiling. The floors should NOT steal the thunder of a room with such a bright color, especially with such beautiful windows and the gorgeous views outside them!
@@hughkirk3946 It did not "steal the thunder", rather it gave the room a joyful aspect. Brightened it. Like bringing in greenery. One can only look out the window so much. It is a cottage, as it gets dark out, you want to have a cheery place to play games, sit before the fire, eat dinner and so on. I guess we have different opinions.
I guess I just wonder about how painted floors like that hold up. Seems like they might get scratched up & kind of funky looking. But I've never had them.
I agree the bright green floor does draw your eye away from the view. A toned down green would have worked and still have been interesting. The reason you would rent on an island is because of the nature and the view. The intense brightness of the floor makes me feel uneasy. The rest of the cottage is fabulous.
I'm with Alex. Don't paint all the wood.
Maybe a large rug would have added some warmth and toned down the floor.
Have a love/hate view on Sarah’s current design strategy. Now everything looks like a Barbie house/cottage and made for children. Too much color, pattern, wallpaper, etc. Would love to see her design something sophisticated, sexy, and adult.
Stunning, but nooooooo to that floor. I just couldn't relax with such a bright colour.
O.k just watched EVERYTHING, and ya ha...Sarah hit it again, out the park. White is truly the color for this place, it makes everything else stand out. Gorgeous love it.
I love everything about this design, and the floors are fabulous! Sarah Richardson is simply the best designer around.
Wow, thank you!
The chairs had the orange accent! With wood. Leave the windows with some wood, leave the wood ceiling beams with a subdued white inbetween the beams. I don't want to be in a white winter wonderland when I go to a remote summer cottage. I want a vintage vibe.
So go elsewhere, simple.
Perhaps the floor as a natural wood and sealed with clear deck stain would have been a better choice. The green is too much.
I think the vintage dining chairs should have remained the color they were found. And, some of the natural wood left unpainted.
It feels like you sucked the lake cottage charm right out of the room. I like the mid century elements but...You go there to enjoy nature, not stare at a bright white 'new' room that looks like you shouldn't get too comfortable or get it dirty(in the woods-dirt paths-hello). Pretty fabrics, yes they are beautiful, and sure white has it's place but at a rental and everywhere? Doesn't feel relaxing. It's more like an English country garden cottage feel than the lake house.
The green floor is just...awful, omg, and green is one of my favorite colors tbh, but not here. I would like to see a follow up after a year of renters, please.
Always fun to watch Sarah's design come to life. I've been a fan for years.
Green is my absolute favorite color- but that floor is putrid. Wood in the forest should be allowed to be brown. Now, the whole livingroom looks like a preschool clubhouse.
It was honestly just a better color palette before.
built ins and fireplace are amazing...floor color not so much
Love everything except the color on the floor. Sorry, but I don´t!
I love it. One of the things Sarah does that I especially love, is re imagine furniture. Pure genius. From the built in, turned bench seating, to the painted cane chairs to the dining chairs. Love, love, love. Love all the new paint, including the green floors. The white walls. Did I say “love” too much? Not sorry. 😊. I’d absolutely love to stay there for a week. That would be a REAL vacation.
Beautiful as always
I love Sarah and tommy. Wish she had more on you tube.
I agree with him. Especially about the wood ceiling. All she does is paint everything white and calls it design. Skip.
I am no expert but the floor color is a no to me. Nonetheless may be it works for a rental since the renters will be there only for a short period of time and not stuck with the green floor for a long time. The finishings of the cottage interior are competing and not blending with its surroundings.
Uh what happened to an island cottage in the woods? I dont know i'm a bit pained by the lack of wood interior. It's got a "lets paint everything" vibe.
I do like the location and the tree thinner is spot on.
I adore the green floor, oh please tell us what is name/brand of this green!!!!!!
The SHADE of green is where I started looking sideways, lol. Did it even closely match??? But, I always love how you think, Sarah. I would be pleased if I rented your cottage.
I'm with Tommy on the floor...maybe if it was a more natural shade like sage or moss.
Not a fan of the green floor and I would have liked to see some of the natural wood showing but yes, better than it was…
I agree. This project didnt need that bold makeover. The new interiors was beautiful but looks more country chic. Should have kept the more natural finish in reverence to its surroundings.
I didn't think that I would like the green floor, but it was fresh and modern. I loved it! 🤩
This is a lake cottage?? This looks like something you would find in the city. I wouldn't rent it for $50 month.
LOVE THE GREEN FLOOR!!
What about Navy blue floors? Or, rather, brown/wooden floors would’ve looked better!
Fabulous as always, Sarah is best!!!
I’m pretty sure paint in a wet environment is going to trap moisture and peel and blister. Maybe whitewash is a better option. I wonder how this held up.
Please share the brand of paint and name of the floor paint color, thank you. Love it.
It's so interesting watching this knowing that Kris is still around and Sarah's number 1 carpenter
Every time they choose fabrics I cringe so bad 😬 so 2000s hotel …
I hate white and love natural wood. I can’t be the only deviant that feels this way.
I like green (as in floor) just not that shade. Sorry Sarah.
Rental: NOT. White never in a rental...the vintage dining chairs were a PERFECT match to your color scheme why would you white them out!! They would have been such a punch of NEEDED color if left as found. You made a table out of old tree limbs!? WASTE. The table you had was just fine!! We rent lake cabins all over..this is not a rental it is a high end stay and I am thinking the types that will pay what this would cost--want room service. Alex was correct more the way it was was JUST FINE for most of us who would have rented, believe me we've been in worse and LOVED EVERY SECOND. This would be sooo beyond what we types would pay!!
This an old video? Maybe 7 yrs old
I'm commenting before I see anything. Wouldn't it be funny if the previous owners wanted to buy back the place after she's done with it? I just had to put that out there? 😅😅😅..just saying.
Vintage? Couldn't they rent it as vintage experience?
It was disgustingly vintage!
I'm very disappointed into this redesign. It looks like it was done by a city interior decorator. Part of the charm of lake cottages is the natural aesthetics. I understand wanting to lighten a dark interior but completely whitewashing the cottage, I feel, ruined some of the charm. The green floor is a major fail. I agree with another commenter that it distracts from the beautiful view. The floor would be better with a natural wood color in this room where so much is white. I agree this cabin needed some white but this is too much white, imho.
To each his own. Sarah's marvelous. This project was done in TWENTY-FOURTEEN.
It's perfectly okay; Richardson has a ton of long-term, enthusiastic fans. 2014.
You wrote your uncompliment in 2021. Seven YEARS after project. As a graphic designer, I know there are ALWAYS parameters, limits, challenges. We are not gods, this isn't heaven.
Budget, availability, timeframe, nature, and more I'm not thinking of.
This was rendered in 2014, 7 yrs before your comment. This project is for rental, not resale. Rentals have their own set of requirements.
Amazing! I want to move to Canada.
Must be able to see the view, money maker!!!
how could you not like green? if it didn't hit you in the face when you walk in the room, it would be fine. I'm no expert but I think it could be toned down a smidge or a lot.
I can’t with those floors. Just… no.
Sarah, in my opinion, has great vision on how to transform a project!
Thought this program was a parody
Ok... need to see the bathroom reno because it seems like there is only one bathroom? lots of places to sleep but only one bathroom seems like a recipe for less rental money...
Just give them buckets.
Love this series!!! And Tomy... The icing on the cake... From another world😂🤩
Lovely project. In my view some charm was lost with completely painting out of the ceiling in white. Could have left some exposed wood beams. This would have maintained the cottage feel. The look you have attained is lovely but feels like a country farm house rather than Canadian cottage.
Let's just go buy an island...
It's luxury to me....in a casual way! Love the floor and the white ceiling!
Love the green floor!!I just painted my porch ceiling Yucca Leaf, this beautiful ,light and vibrant green .😊
Oh how I have missed your show😢 the cottage looks great! 😀
I absolutely love all the white, in fact I think most wood should be painted as well as brick ignore all the negative comments Sarah. I’m curious as to the floor paint you used. is it specific and do you use a polyurethane on top of it?
That green floor is EVERYTHING 👍
You know what? It's Dec. 7, 2023. Bless all those we lost, + their sweet families, when Pearl Harbor was viciously attacked.
On today's OTHER thought: There is not a thing! more sublime, than losing yourself in a cottage renovation -- watching Sarah Richardson, w an assist from Tommy Smythe, in creative process.
Hi Sarah, Is this on VRBO? How do I search for this rental? Thanks
It is in the Georgian Bay (Toronto Area) but I don't see it listed on VRBO; at least I could not find it!
Looking good!
How does one rent this place?
Tommy’s great! He has impeccable taste and adorable personality. Always happy to see him show up. ❤😊
I don't know what it is about that particular green. I hated it in the can, (Scares me too, Tommy) It is marginally better on the floor. ˢᶦᵍʰ
I love green. I love everything Sarah does, (except that green)
I don't normally complain, without offering a solution.
.. Light gets too dirty, dark paint would highlight any dust. I blame the time crunch.
An absolute NO, NO to that Kermit The Frog Green, a woody tone would have added an earthy tone... Why painting with green when the trees are so picturesque and adding their own shades of green from outside...😏
Beautiful redesign except for the “Green” floor IMHO.
Beautiful space, but looks like a bowling alley. Why not put a long skinny table in the middle of the dining room? Gorgeous, but looks odd.
Doesn’t Tommy have his own design company now
Why so neutral?
Everything but the floor. I think it's a mistake to confuse renting a woodsy cottage from renovating a home. In that vein the floor, at least should have reflected the woodsy rustic feel of being in a cottage by being left natural. I also would have left the beams natural and only whitewashed the wood. I wouldn't want to rent a cottage vacation place that was like the polished home I left behind.
Not my cup of tea. I think the Kelly green distracts from the natural surroundings, but it's not my house so. I would have liked to see more neutral palettes and furniture arranged to appreciate the woodsy view. I also think the style of the furniture is very southern and would look great in a different setting.
I grew up on a lake in Vermont in the summers in 50's 60's. Ours was knotty pine and upstairs was dark wood. It would have been so much brighter painted. BTW I love the floors!
Love everything except that floor. Sorry but it's horrendous.
Sarah does amazing designs and renovations, however, the green floors took away from the potential of the design
They need to add a better landing I think. The dismount from the boat looks dangerous and has no place to unload anything. The home however is beautiful.
Too bad that floor is hideous. Everything else is quite beautiful.
The green floor paint color is the color of jadeite. That's a great reference -- gonna see if Sarah brought some actual jadeite in.
It's very grandma chic. kinda ruined the mid century vibe.
i would of done a darker green like a forest green, and everything else would be light with light wood accents
I would stay there no problem green floors and all!
That was fun😃
Sarah, have very old farmhouse you can Reno. Mine in Wisconsin.
LOL "this stair has a 1 drink maximum" luv it
What did you go through to check out the condition of the fireplace and clean it?
I really don't like the green floor colour the rest of the things I love ❤️
I'm sorry, why was the fireplace stone not cleaned? 🙃
I liked the charm before. All that beautiful wood gone lol
Colors from the landscape!! I love!
Phenomenal. Another Sarah, Alex and Tommy success!
I do loveeee Tommy's reaction! oh my. so funny!
I didn't like the green floor and painting the teal roof whote
Floor color is just a bit off like the idea but it’s just a little off.
the better it is, the more you get and for more/ longer bookings
