Welcome to the absolute joy that is Gerry Rafferty. Baker Street is an absolute masterpiece, I highly recommend the album version for the extended outro, you will not be disappointed
Baker Street still stands tall as a poignant meditation on despondency and inertia, striking a chord with listeners who embraced it as an emotionally-charged classic-rock staple
A-Plus with this song, A masterful balance of guitars, bass line, light snare, synthesizer, velvet lyrics, vocal harmony blends this smooth soft rock composition as a Top 5 on any published list.
Beautiful song. I hope you do Baker Street too. It has one of the iconic guitar solos. I always enjoy hearing the sax and lead guitar play off each other.
ABBA, Olivia Newton-John, The Carpenters and now Gerry Rafferty. You have managed to hit the quadfecta on my top favorite artists of the 70s. This is aging myself, but I still have my original vinyl for these artists and they still sound great! There are so many songs by each of these artists that you still need to experience. I am looking forward to experiencing them with you. Thank you!
It’s just such a fun song. We’ve been singing these songs for years and years. They never grow old or tiresome. Baker Street is just another fav of mine. A must listen to.
This was high school music for me; his hit Baker Street is still a favorite. You are reviewing SO MANY of my old faves (including ELO)- a lot of nostalgia!
Love this song. In 1972 Gerry Rafferty was in the Scottish folk rock band Stealers Wheel & had a big hit with "Stuck In The Middle With You". Later on, he went out on his own & then had the big hits "Baker's Street", "Right Down The Line" & "Night Owl".
Gerry rafferty was a highly talented perfectionist his unique voice reminds me of those crazy seventies his magic album city to city is epic l love his music his voice and I always will, RIP gerry
Glad you got to this one, it's me and my lady's song. Baker Street should be the next Rafferty song to do. Then I would suggest Dr John's Right place, Wrong Time, it'll blow your mind. ✌️Peace✌️
Great reaction Salvo! Indeed, this song is such a groove, that bassline is fire...and the lyrics are beautiful! Gerry Rafferty (RIP) was a real talented chap. I love singing this to my wife - and if the opportunity presents, dancing in the kitchen! The entire City to City album is wonderful. Baker Street and The Ark from the album are also must listens. This made my Friday. Cheers!
Every channel has featured his hit “Baker Street” and for good reason, but for some reason, no one has done his studio version of “Get it right next time”, Please be the first SalvoG.
Gerry Rafferty has such a unique voice. This song plus Baker’s Street are two of my favorite songs. It takes me back to a specific time in my younger years. Great memories and feelings. ❤
Man this is one of my favorite songs of any artist, ever. I've heard it a zillion times and never get tired, in fact I wish that ending was longer. For groovy, you should check out from Gerry "Get it right next time", from his album Night Owl (the one right after this one). Also more classy tracks like "Night owl" itself, "Baker Street", "Waiting for the day", etc.
"Baker Street", "Home And Dry", "Days Gone Down", "Get It Right Next Time", all Top 40 hits. Had all his singles, including one that peaked in the 50's "Royal Mile (Sweet Darlin')" that's really good too.
Salvo. I’m a big fan of your reactions. I’m 54yrs and saw Pink Floyd, Tampa, Fl, 3rd row, front and center. 21st Bday, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in Gainesville, Fl. I met a cover band with some of their own. The Main Squeeze. They have on youtube Whiter Shade of Pale, Have a Cigar, Redbone, Whike My Guitar gently Weeps, No Quarter, With a Little Help From My Friends, Man in the Mirror, Rage Against the Machine, Little Wing, Gravity, Dream on, and probably 30 more. Not a local band. HUGE following. I suggest either With a Little Help from My Friends, Redbone, or Have a cigar. Been around for abt 12yrs. Guitar player is intergaltic. The rest are soooo good. Love your reactions and song selections❤Best to all. Happy, smooth, cool, and blessed music through the holidays.
I love this song and perform it often too, but you MUST check out his huge classic hit "Baker Street" (heavenly saxophone) and his first hit with Stealer's Wheel "Stuck In The Middle".
Simply a pleasure to listen to this song every time! One of my favorites by Gerry that gets overlooked is his 1979 Top 20 hit "Days Gone Down (Still Got the Light in Your Eyes)"
I was 8 yrs old when this song was released. I recall 'cruising' with teen brother to this song. Even at that age, that song gave me what I can only explain now as calm/euphoric/unexplainable feeling. 🧘♀️
BAKER STREET was his most famous song, but do not forget GET IT RIGHT NEXT TIME - it's a another gem with Raphael Ravenscroft on Sax, again (his name was as cool as his play).
He has a fairly unknown album "On a wing and a prayer" 1992 with some great songs "Time's caught up on you" "It's easy to talk" "Don't give up on me" "I see red"
Definitely check out "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty!!! Earlier in his career, Gerry sang lead for the band Steelers Wheel on their Top 10 hit song "Stuck in the Middle With You."
A gorgeous love song, a beautiful voice, and great production, too. "Baker Street" is a must-hear hit, but I'd also recommend "Get it Right Next Time", with its propulsive bass, "Night Owl", and a deeper cut - "Sleepwalking". Fun fact - a lot of Gerry's lyrics nod back to earlier songs of his - in this song there's the line "You put something better inside of me" which is the title of a song he did with Stealers Wheel. The line "constant as the northern star" is a Shakespeare quotation, BTW :) RIP Gerry - gone too soon.
You missed that Gerry joined the Humblebums in 1969, with Billy Connelly (comedian, actor, musician) and Tam Harvey, for Tam to leave shortly afterwards. Billy and Gerry carried on as a duo until 1971 when they went their separate ways. Gerry became huge as a musician, and Billy became huge as a comedian and later an actor. Next track to listen to is his classic song “Bakers Street” as you won’t get better. After that maybe Steelers Wheel “Stuck in the Middle with You”
I saw Gerry and Billy perform as a duo before either of them were famous. I could not predict at that time how far they would go. It is tragic that, despite asserting a wish to "give up the booze" in the lyrics of Baker Street alcoholism got the better of him and took him from us far too early.
I remember Tim Robbins telling James Lipton (in Inside the Actors Studio) that his favourite word was 'mellifluous'. Well he could have been describing Gerry Rafferty.
Most people start with Baker's Street, and while I do dig that song a lot, I'm loving this song so much more. My favorite song off that album. My dad bought the album back shortly after it came out, when I was around 12, because we were hearing Baker's Street on the radio all the time. Me, my Dad and my now 80-year-old Mom all loved it. My Mom especially loves Baker's Street. Right Down the Line is one of the greatest love songs ever, imo. Not sappy, but deep and heartfelt, expressing a real, meaningful love.
If you like Gerry, and want to tap into your 70s inner child these songs are awesome Firefall: Just remember I love you 10 cc: I'm not in Love Ambrosia: How much I feel Little River Band: Lady (they had tons of hits)
**Beautiful** & OMG i just remembered THIS song was playing in ONE of my FAV scenes in the series **Euphoria** OH & **Hi SalvoG** new subscriber here **Luv** your channel YAY! **PixieHugz&LuvzALL** P.S. Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" is a must listen to (if you haven't already) its pure gold. ❤🎷 RIP Gezza 🩵
Do you really want to see SalvoG melt in his chair? 😂
I would like that. Is that wrong?
@@dizastro5437 😂 I'm with ya
@@dizastro5437🙋♀️I’m with on that too 😊💐

Gerry had many great hits. His voice was like velvet. Since you liked this one you've got to listen to his song Baker Street. The sax solo is epic.
Welcome to the absolute joy that is Gerry Rafferty. Baker Street is an absolute masterpiece, I highly recommend the album version for the extended outro, you will not be disappointed
Gerry's Baker Street is one of my top five favorite songs.
Probably the most beautiful heart felt lyrics ever. What a great love song.
Baker Street still stands tall as a poignant meditation on despondency and inertia, striking a chord with listeners who embraced it as an emotionally-charged classic-rock staple

"Baker Street", "Home And Dry", "Days Gone Down", "Get It Right Next Time", all Top 40 hits. Had all his singles, including one that peaked in the 50's "Royal Mile (Sweet Darlin')" that's really good too.

I always liked Get it Right Next Time, and the "in-studio" video is fun to watch.
Smoothed out. Nice discovery. Keep turning over suggestions.
Stealers Wheel, Stuck in the Middle with You is a vibe. It’s been in soooooo many movies. 🔥
Definitely check out "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty!!! Earlier in his career, Gerry sang lead for the band Steelers Wheel on their Top 10 hit song "Stuck in the Middle With You."
One of my favorite songs from back in the day. That and Rafferty's 'Baker Street'. RIP.

Baker Street is a must!!! Facts!!
This, BAKER STREET (my absolute favorite). and Steelers wheel STUCK IN THE MIDDLE WITH YOU.
Love the track and the dude is intriguing to me. I love his music/ look/vibe.
BAKER STREET next! Easily one of the most recognizable sax moments of the 70's. The other being TURN THE PAGE by Bob Segar. Both Legendary!
The piano is subtle and beautifu.
Absolutely MUST check out Baker Street

I bet you'd absolutely love his massive hit Baker Street.
This song was very popular in my high school years. I graduated in 1981 and City to City is an amazing album.
I'd heard "Baker Street" over and over. Great song. But it took this song to make me desperately want the album. BTW, the title cut is awesome.
Good pick! Baker street (lots of sax) next please!
One of my favorite albums ever!
Good friend of Billy Connely☮️ ❤️ 🏴
I remember when this song was new....God I'm old.
I remember Tim Robbins telling James Lipton (in Inside the Actors Studio) that his favourite word was 'mellifluous'. Well he could have been describing Gerry Rafferty.
