Suyambulingam (Kamal Haasan) is a local cable TV operator living happily with his family comprises of wife Rani(Gautami), daughters-Selvi (Niveda Thomas) and Meena (Baby Esther). When an uninvited guest enters into their family to cause heavy havoc, they stand together and send him to a place where he can never comeback. But the irony is that they actually messed up with the son of a powerful and sharp IG Geetha Prabhakar (Asha Sarath) who does her best to bring the truth out from them. Does she succeed? Kamalhassan is the best actor I've ever seen. He can act sing and dance very well. He can also speak all the regional languages apart from Tamil. Proud to be his fan.
Pristine Berry Singing, dancing and other things don't come into play when you look at him as an actor. He's well rounded but, that doesn't make him any better an actor.

No one will agree, but this is what I personally think. Mohanlal and Kamal are way too overrated. I understand Mammooty's hype, but Mohanlal has never really convinced me. Jayasurya is a better actor than Mohanlal personally. I like to watch Mohanlal but his acting just isn't that strong for me. Dileep can do any role and is the mosy convincing. Jayaram is similar but he just didn't get enough roles. Mammooty is good too.

i just watched d full movie of papanasam on tv 2 malaysia. s usual kamaal haasan was brilliant in d movie. he is one actor that is so talented. at par with d late sivaji ganesan. his character and expression were so felt. not over at all. may Allah bless kamaal haasan with more brilliant movies. Exactly. It's annoying to see people complaining and arguing about the 2 actors as if their lives depended on them. These 2 actors are friends and are probably having drinks right now whereas 'fans' got nothing else better to do. So what if mohanlal is a better actor, is kamal going to hang himself? Or what if kamal is a better actor, mohanlal is going to jump down from the plane? Just enjoy the movie. If u dislike 1 actor, then don't bother watching the movie and stick to the ones you really enjoy. Simple.
@@vvww8899 very true, even sometimes I feel the same when people fight for such things. There's no point in fighting who the best actor is. All are unique in their own way. If they like they can watch or else they can leave.
I am not sure what yardstick people use to compare two actors. It ultimately boils down to individual preferences. I liked both Kamal’s and Mohanlal’s performances but, for the life of me, I cannot say which one is best. The Tamil version is close to me because I can relate to it better as I am a Tamilian myself. All these comments that Kamal hammed is all BS. I only saw a Papanasam man (I am from Tirunelveli) in that role, not Kamal, the star. Kamal nailed that slang and modulation.
It is a common accusation that Tamil actors ham but that’s natural. We are probably more emotional and that’s fine. Besides Kamal, like Sivaji before him, comes from a stage background where it is required that actors ham more. Cho Ramasamy narrated an incident when he was acting alongside Sivaji. He once remarked to Sivaji that he didn’t like his performance in a particular scene (don’t remember the movie) because he was overacting. Sivaji redid the whole scene but with subtle expressions. Cho was awed and asked the veteran why he doesn’t do that in movies to which Sivaji replied that audience expect this from him. And that’s true. There was a time when audience mostly appreciated hamming and wouldn’t accept subtlety.
It is ok to state that one likes a particular actor more but if we are to say one is superior to another, perhaps one should mention the yardstick used.
Cause I see traces of Kamal in this movie, all I saw in Drishyam was GEORGEKUTTY, Malayalam version is way way better
not only they are comparing actors, they are stupid that they are comparing the movie itself in tamila nd malayalam.. they may like Malayam, no doubt . but Tamil is better in a way bcs of the fun element which does not exsit in malayalam.also mohanlal was shown as little more matured whereas in tamil they showed him like a layman. also if you can guess, directors get to correct their mistakes in remake .. even if you ask the director , he will accept it. another example is munnabhai mbbs. Tamil verision is way better. i am a guy who studied totally in hindi medium and came only to chennai after college and few years of wroking in north. people do no have any judgement at all.

45.25 to 45.32 - Kamalhasan's expression is giving a message to the police like “see you people harassed myself & my family but finally I fooled you.. So never disappoint me again" which is missing in Mohanlal's expression..
Did you notice that Mohanlal is looking somewhere else often in close-up scenes?? where Kamalhasan looking perfectly at the location.
And many other scenes in Papanasam are better than original version…
Thats why we say Papanasam is a fine tuned version of Dirshyam.
Everything was better in Papanasam. Mohanlal can’t act or emote any expressions. He’s dealing with murder like it’s a visit to the candy store. Even Asha Sarath sucked in the Malayalam version. Everyone sucked in Drishyam. Papanasam was amazing

To be honest, I loved the tamil version the most. I saw the tamil, malayalam and hindi versions. Hindi was probably the worst. Every character has performed brilliantly in the tamil movie. Kamal, no doubt is a legend, but the whole ensemble acting so good is rare! My God and Asha Sharath as the police officer-what a performance!! Hats off!

BUT kamal sir has won multiple awards as the best actor (by the way he has the padma shri and the padma mushan award) he directed many movies (inculding Hey Ram and Virumaandi which were screened at several film festivals) he can sing and is for most of the youngsters in the film industry a role model

Different province have different regional characters portrayed.. Lal portrayed the typical Christian character while Kamal Hassan a Hindu villager n Ajay with a northIndian touch.. each of them portrayed very well in their respective aspect.. Kudos to that.. there are changes in each language as it demands according to the region which ought to be.. but in Malayalam the editing n detail was a bit slightly better I feel.. especially taken care on d minutest part.. after a Long while same story has done better in all languages 👏🏼👏🏼👍🏽

The best part of the story is that, after all the planning, execution and rigorously training his family, Suyambu still knew the police will break his family and get the truth somehow. So he plans for that as well by hiding part of the truth from his family.

What could be considered as great acting to one could be considered hamming to another; what would be considered as subtle acting would be considered as dull to another.
Now, when it comes to musical ability, Ilayaraja is the best there is and the best there was. The proof is in the body of his work, both quantity and quality. 1,100+ movies in 45+ years with nearly 6000 songs and bgms plus independent albums. First Asian to compose a symphony for RPO, only composer to use WC techniques like counterpoint and chromaticism heavily in movie music, 56 movies in a year with most of them super hits, only composer in the world who is a master of rural folk, Indian and Western classical, jazz, rock etc, only Indian composer to write notes, etc. Now, can you show such proofs for acting skills? No, you cannot. I rest my case:)

I have a question. I just saw dubbing of Papanasam on Mazhavil Manorama. I have seen Drishyam before. My question is in Papanasam, the policeman against Kamal looks so much like Kalabhavan Mani. But, I thought he passed away. Was this movie taken before he passed away?

Just watch few films which i mention here. 16 vayathinile , avvai shanmughi , Guna, Dasavatharam , Alavanthan, Thevarmagan, Virumandi...etc. but at the same time i like so much some Lal films here which you may or may not known...Thazhvaram , Thoovanathumbikal, Kanmadham, chithram, Varavelpu , mani hithrathazh...etc
