Over the years I've grown to really love this free dance and I think the final result was completely appropriate. The ice dance technique and skill in this program was superior to that in Blumberg & Siebert's free dance.
They were still a developing team but I quite liked this free dance as it was charming and had excellent content. I'm not convinced it deserved to beat Blumberg and Seibert though. I would've had K&P ahead of Bestemianova & Bukin though, at least in the free dance. Not so sure about the other portions of the competition as B&B had some excellent compulsories.
Based on the free dance, I would agree. But B&B had some excellent compulsories, especially their rhumba as their double choctaw was absolutely incredible. It's funny how B&B never transferred those skating skills into their free dances.
What I don't understand is that if it was the judges saying that they didn't want a "dramatic" dance to classical music, then how did this couple win in 1992?
i think it also depended on WHO was doing it for instance they said they didnt like blumberg and seiberts ;;scheherazade'' however they loved bolero'' when torvill and dean did it......
ISU kind of expected the leading teams to move the field forward. If they liked the directions -they would go along with new things; if they thought that the teams go in the wrong direction - they forced everyone to return to Ball room dancing. After Bolero, there were 4 years of Bestemjanova and Bukinn with Karmen and other quite dramatic free dances, Isabelle and Paul Duchesnay and their innovations so that even Klimova and Ponomarenko decided to go this route to win. Than, there was return to ball room from 1993 to 1996-1997 and than from 1998 to 2002 again more dramatic and passionate programs were winning (done by Anisina and Peizerat, Krylova and Ovsjanikov, Fusar-Poli and Margaglio e.g.). Well it were interesting times in ice dancing (I miss it))
@@grantnoroyan9275 Blumberg & Seibert were sacrificial lambs at these Games. The Eastern bloc knew they werent getting gold since Torvill & Dean were unbeatable at this point so they decided "well if we arent getting gold, we are going to make sure we get 2 medals, no matter what corruption and cheating we have to pull". B&S had to be sacrificed. Soviets accepting both no gold and only 1 medal in an Olympics would be unthinkable, even if it happens in worlds often, not at the Olympics. It was wrong, but that is what happened.

i think they deserved the silver over bestemianova/bukin
