First Time In A Hunting Saddle - It Is That Easy

- Sydney had never tried a hunting saddle or climbing a tree for saddle hunting. So we started pretty basic. In a matter of minutes we had her safely up the tree and back down. She played around for an hour or so in the saddle including shooting her bow. Lots more practice is needed before hunting seasons, but this video shows you how easy it is to go from knowing nothing to handling the basics. The gear included the Latitude Method 2 saddle, Latitude ropes, Eastern Woods Outdoors sticks, and a Tethrd platform.

This is the best video I've seen for beginners to learn how to hunt from a saddle. Thank you for making this! 👍
Thanks. If I could change one thing is to advise to never step onto the platform with just your lineman belt. You need to connect your tether before stepping onto the platform.
That's good info. I've recently gotten a saddle and platform but haven't put it on a tree yet. I'm 61 yo so I'll be very careful with this. Lock on stands have been my go to the last 40 years.
I’m looking into hunting in a saddle. I stubbles upon your videos. I have to say real informative videos. Good content. Question though can you abhor a rifle out of a saddle. I gun hunt more than bow. God bless you guys!!
Yes you can gun hunt out of one. I have killed 2 bucks now with a gun out of a saddle.
Im 57 and just finished my first year in a saddle because of you.yes i got in better shape so i could be mobile.i took 2 doe's and a nice buck my first year.ill never hunt any way ever again. Its the safest way because your always attached to the tree.great video. Thank you again.age is nothing for saddle hunting.
That is awesome! Congrats!
I’m getting my first saddle this week. I plan to practice this year before the fall season. Thank you for this video!
Been saddle hunting 2 years now, she did better than my first time , I didn’t even touch my tree stand last season.
Awesome got me thinking about getting one
Cool stuff. As a hunter living in Germany I have never seen this. Do people in the States use these tree saddles also for rifle hunting?
@tucosalamanca4478 yes, people rifle hunt out of them.
You are a very good Teacher
Trusting in my equipment, is my biggest hurdle, having fallen before, from 8 ft off an ice covered ladder, landing flat on my back, while evacuating in an ice storm. I’ve gone up close to 50 ft high in my climber stand no problem, feeling completely secure, but now older, the stand is just to heavy & bulky, not to mention noisy, so working on a change.
Saddle hunting is as safe as it gets. I have done several videos on the topic. Dig through my archives. I did a couple last winter that are very relevant for what you are looking for. Play around at a few feet off of the ground and learn the equipment and establish a system. Then you can start going higher as you get more comfortable.
Well Done, I wish had you there to help me with my first time. ;-)
haha yea seriously i could use some help over here too
I needed this video to figure out what to do, thank you!
Good luck and be safe. I have a bunch of other saddle "how to" videos on my channel. Check them out and hit the subscribe button ... it really helps me out.
I think a saddle would be great for me this year. I found a spot this year in a terrain saddle that has a huge community scrape. Already rubs in there where the trees are slashed to pieces. It's an old select cut, though so he trees big enough to climb are either way too gnarly for a climber or giant. Most are the size of a broom handle or smaller. I do have a question. Is a tree saddle a good option for all day sits?
I’m 64 and started Saddlehunting last year. I’m really enjoying it as another method.
Is it hard to pee, with all the straps it seems like it be hard to even unbutton.
This is one of the best videos I’ve watched for information purposes!! I just ordered mine and couldn’t find a video showing how to get down great video thanks!!
Thanks! Be safe and check out all of my other saddle hunting videos. Good luck this season!
She looked very comfortable guess she had a good teacher 😁
Great job
Great instructional video. Thank you
Looking into this as another option. I just have to get passed the cost of the equipment right now.
Reminds me when I hooked poles at work. Not sure how the loops sit, but over the years I always have carabiner hooks out. Another thing was measuring the distance from you to a pole/tree pit your elbow to your belly and make a fist touch the pole. This helps the hook on the gaffs stay dug it. I am pretty the same for the climbing sticks.
The climbing sticks bind so tight that they do not move when set properly. As to the cost of equipment, yes that can be an initial deterant, but consider how much 3 or 4 tree stands with individual climing sticks and a good harness costs. Saddle hunting then becomes very affordable when you can take your one setup to any tree and hunt.
@@NewDayOutdoors that was in the back of my head as well. More places/locations that aren’t locked in, will eventually pay for its self
What are your recommendations on saddle brands. I don’t mind the falling, just the landing. So I would want a reliable and proven company?
how high would you recommend for actual bow hunting? seems like you would really be silhouetted on the type of tree you would need to hunt out of
It is all in how you setup. I have a video that if you look up, I show how you setup relative to the wind and how to use the tree to hide you. On my channel in about March 2022. Saddle Hunting 102 is something like the title. As to how high, it all depends. I would say I am typically in the 15 to 16 feet up range. But I've hunted as low as 10 and as high as probably 18 or so.
Common sense will tell you which tree to hunt from. Also same applies to height.
What is that small piece that you have on the lineman’s rope. Is that what is helping her be able to pull to tighten it?
It is a "tender". Those are Latitude ropes ans they come with them. Other companies sell ropes with similar devices. I think you can buy just that type of piece from Eastern Woods Outdoors too. You can even make a simple one with Paracord, I think Average Jack Archery has a video on how to do that from 3 or 4 years ago. But yes, it allows you to take up line easier because it pushes the prusik.
What are those stick and platform hooks on your saddle, and where can I fin d them?
Eastern Woods Outdoors kydex hanger clips. $3 or so each on their website. I love the things.
@@NewDayOutdoors Thanks for the quick reply, good video!
did make it look easy, but half the battle is buying all this stuff i need. i don't know what the hell i'm doing. i don't know anything about all these knots and ropes and stuff too. this might be too complicated for me to try this year.
Scroll through my channel back to January through March 2022. I did 4 or 5 saddle hunting videos to break it down. Look up one called Saddle Hunting 101 For Us Old Guys. I break it down for you. If you have questions reach out to me. You can easily find me on FB or Instagram and send me a private message and I can walk you through things.
@@NewDayOutdoors i appreciate that, thank you. i'm checking out your other videos now
Nice job dad. I might have had her tether in initially at ground level to understand that process and working around the tree then graduate to using sticks and platform. Way to go
I agree to a point. She has used a rope tether hundreds of times over the years connecting to traditional tree stand harnesses and rock climbing harnesses. The fundamentals are the same. She has watched me tether to the tree in my saddle many times as I have used a saddle when filming her hunts. And she had just watched me finish filming a review video of this saddle just before we filmed this. She had a solid grasp on connecting a tether. She was supported with the linesman belt at the time also. There is no way to mitigate all risk, but I think we had it covered pretty well.
@@NewDayOutdoors Great! But u were trying to show true beginners. It's all trusting when clipped in. One RUclips vid said one is none, two is one. When being tethered. Keep up the good work.
