Zoë Modiga - Ingankwane - Afrika Festival Hertme 2022

Welcome to the Afrika Festival Hertme archive!
Zoë Modiga is an artist representing the present and future of South African music. She draws from African stories, jazz compositions and Motown soul, and creates her own unique sound.
At a very young age she made the choice to attend the National School of the Arts in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, where she studied classical piano, clarinet and singing. Later she also studied Jazz performance at the College of Music, UCT.
Zoë has a great voice with a huge range and is a real performer. She has collaborated with some of the best South African musicians including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Thandiswa Mazwai, Jonny Clegg, Simphiwe Dana, Louis Maholo and Tshepo Tshola. She has performed at celebrated festivals including The Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, MTN Bushfire Festival, Hugh Masekela Heritage Festival, Fete De La Musique, Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies, Redbull Music Festival and the Basha Uhuru Music Festival. This summer she came to the Netherlands for the first time and her first performance was with us in Hertme!
On top of all these achievements, Zoë's music has been nominated and awarded several times (nominations for Best Jazz Album and Best African Artist, winner of the Mbokodo Award and the Jazz Category of the SAMRO Overseas Scholarship Competition).
