Slovak soprano Lucia Popp performed at most of the world's great opera houses including Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, and La Scala. . Her professional debut was as the Queen of the Night in Mozart's “The Magic Flute”. As her voice matured, the roles she chose required a lighter coloratura soprano. Popp rarely recorded roles she did not perform on stage. She became highly in demand for her recitals and as a lieder singer. Sadly, Popp died of brain cancer in 1993 at the age young of 54. She is always ranked as one of the best sopranos of all time. "Ombra mai fu", also known as "Largo from Xerxes", is the opening aria from the 1738 opera “Serse” composed by George Frideric Handel.
