Meat, eggs, & dairy increase mTOR. Plant based diets decrease mTOR activity 🙂 So does fasting... A good balance may be ideal, so some mTOR activity for repair can be achieved through high protein whole plant foods like legumes and some nuts 💚🌱💚
@@patrick-louisvincent4360 yes, protein restriction as in certain amino acids. And plant foods are lower in those particular amino acids and most are lower in protein and fat in general helping keep calories down which also reduces mTOR activity. Than you for your great work! I have to ask one thing about the mTOR - doesn’t mTOR do a bit different things in different human tissues? mTOR running the show in cancer cells is a disaster, however we wouldn’t have healthy, functional skeletal muscles without a bit of mTOR activation - isn’t it a question of balance and tradeoff?
Balance, yes.....but excess is detrimental. In human physiology, most of the time, more is worse. MTOR hyperactivation, mTOR signaling promotes cell proliferation and metabolism that contribute to tumor initiation and progression.
@ it might be more complicated. Hong Kong has one of the highest life expectancies, and at the same time one of world’s highest per capita consumtions of meat. Mayebe how the meal feeding pattern looks plays role. How many times is mTOR activated.

2:05 "life expecancy was less than16 years and 75% of people born in 1662 died before age 26" OMG I have to stop complaining about how unfair the life is....
@@larrymaloney877 Yes, but fact is that "The Great Plague of London, lasting from 1665 to 1666, was the most recent major epidemic of the bubonic plague to occur in England", I guess that had a little to do with the low life expectancy then.
Im confused because really- that's a statistic that's misleading because of infant mortality. MANY babies died because of a high infant mortality rate, but once you survived that period, you had a much higher chance of living to adulthood. That "life expectancy of 16" is manipulated to be lower because of a high infant mortality. I would like to see life expectancy fixed for that high infant mortality rate, how long you would live if you made it past 3.
@@kamifaye no confusion anywhere really, it is of course a statistic and doesn’t say that nobody lived past even 26 but you can only get a median for most, in this case 75% of people, who didn’t live beyond 26 that means 25% did and if a lot of babies born who died before 3 years of age you need a lot to live to older age to get to a median of 26 years of life expectancy. Yes you could take out all who died before age 3 but this would falsify the median life expectancy of Londoners who were born in 1662 and of course the median death age would then be a lot higher, but not representative for the total London population being born at that time. Statistics are not easy, but in this case, as represented by Dr. G, correct. Btw. in your country total live expectancy are calculated including infant mortality and all other deaths as well may it be accidents and even suicidal, etc.
If mTOR stimulation needs to be decreased in old age, then why is it recommended that older people increase their protein intake from 65 years onwards, if protein intake leads to increased mTOR stimulation?

@samiryan214 I'm in my 60s and had a health problem that lasted 8 months, causing me to lose a lot of muscle. Now I'm starting the long process of trying to regain the 5-10 lbs of muscle I've lost. Taking creatine and leucine now, but it will take a little time to get it back, if I even can at my age
So does this mean building muscle and lifting weights (which leads to mTOR and muscle growth) reduces lifespan? Do I have to choose whether to be ripped or Alive in good health in later years… 😢
Your muscles getting bigger from exercise is not the same process as growing muscles. You want growth during adolescence but when you're an adult you don't want to grow anymore, that's what leads to cancer. Exercise does not increase mTOR. Meat and dairy do however
Greger's influence on my diet.... more greens and spices. Rarely eat meat however when I rarely do, I do notice a boost in push strength, at gym or bicycle.
What's left out is how complex the human physiology is and how the many parts interact with each other to counter the negative effects in a healthy ecosystem. For example c-15:0 found in dairy. Its ability to target multiple pathways makes it a promising molecule for combating chronic diseases, including metabolic disorders, inflammation, and neurodegenerative conditions.
