    My 2 sons started Judo last night and had a great time. They are a little bit stiff today lol. They much preferred Judo to the sport BJJ . Great site to get instructions from and break down of the techniques. SUBD

    I've recently started doing wrestling. My father is a 3dan judoka. He's taught me a few judo techniques that work quite well in wrestling. This takedown has worked very well for me every sparring session though I just use it to break balance.

    Matt that is another in a long line of EXCELLENT instructional videos by you. I am serious when i say you are a phenomenal instructor. You're so clear. Bro- can I be the third person to beg you to do one of these in-depth overviews of Tai-Otoshi? Your video on Tai-O is great, but it would be such a service to all of us frustrated Judoka to get into the meat of that throw- one which honestly might be the most confusing/misunderstood Waza in the Gokyu. We NEED help with that throw!!!

    Hey, thanks for the video. I have a question. I notice you standing right foot almost opposite to partners right foot when doing the Uchi Komi. Is this always the way you Uchi Komi for this throw, or do you vary? I have trained with teachers who also do it this way but other teachers who insist on always returning to neutral position i.e. directly opposite in Uchi Komi's.

    instead of the lapel you could use an underhook if they didn't have a gi?

    • @leavemealone2006
      @leavemealone2006 9 лет назад

      +Bret Bebermeyer For this particular throw, a collar tie is better than an underhook. An underhook will work, but you have to pull all of his body mass over his leg. If you use a collar tie instead, you only have to pull his head to get him off-balance

    What's the significance of the foot down?

    • @deviljon
      @deviljon 5 лет назад

      Probably to cause your leg to "lock out" so that as you tilt forward for the reap more of the force from your upper body movement can be transferred through the opponent's leg. Kimura used to reap people into the ground so hard they would get concussions

    Your explanation of Osoto Gari is good, but let me help you understand a better technique with your left and right hand placement and what you should do rather than what you are teaching. Move your left hand up to the back of his arm or tricep area pulling him into your right shoulder as you slam your right shoulder into his right shoulder causing some pain to your opponent. The right arm fist should be shoving into his left shoulder and extending the arm out all the way at a 45 degree angle with great force causing him to lean back onto his heels breaking his balance and center of gravity. Then make your step to the outside and begin your leg sweep with much force.

    • @johnblake5688
      @johnblake5688 9 лет назад +5

      Jay D Abbott Are you being serious? I think Matt is competent with Osoto Gari, he's a 3rd dan Olympian. He isn't marketing his videos to high level Judoka looking to perfect every nuance of the throw. His tutorial is perfectly valid and well tailored to his target audience. When your video is only 10 minutes long, you have to make the decision about what to include and what not to include (along with making considerations about the average person's attention span and their desired outcome), and his prioritization in this case is right on.
