Mercy dmg amp is atrocious, for my best game i had been pocketing an insanely good sojourn, she done 20k+dmg, I dmg amp'd 3.1k, the team didnt even get to push the point, i barely healed. id get more value from baptiste's dmg, if the game wasnt being carried by that sojourn. meanwhile my brother goes zen & gets 3k dmg amp in 5 minutes. When ulting i use dmg amp on my whole team we wipe their team, yet only 200 dmg was amp'd, using her blaster would provide more value than dmg amp. despite the numbers of zen & mercy dmg amp being the same, it feels like zen gets way more value, as 4-5 people are shooting a target, as opposed to 1 with mercy. I think she could benefit from a new passive, like her old one that boosted heals on critical teammates, as it allows her to dmg amp more & heal less. in compet I rarely use rez as the circumstances are never right, the soul is in the enemy backline or its on our side but has no cover near it, but then if you rez, you lose time healing the team so someone may die, its more like sacrificing one teammate to bring another back. I did stop playing after her GA nerf, she felt so bad to play, but since then ive came back & learned to use cover more, to constantly be on the move, I didnt like the nerf at first but i really love it now. Since i play compet alot, ive had to drop mercy to play bap, kiri, ana & moira. I wish i could play her again in compet, but doing so is throwing the game, so now i hop into AI when my friend is offline just to play mercy. Edit: I hate seeing mercy hate on tiktok, the amount of people hating mercy is insane. because of her movement, because she gets alot of skins a season. Widow has 39, rein, tracer & genji have 36, D.va, phara & mercy have 35, ana, lucio, reaper, sombra, mei & cas have 34. Her mythic, made her go up to 35, so before people was complaining, she must've been around 30-32 skins which is low. People cry that mercy is too hard to kill, that she is too powerful, but when she is on their team, they demand she should switch, as she is horrible, they refuse to peel/defend her, because she can fly then they cry about no healing because you died.
The issue is the PTSD of Mercy being really strong. When Mercy could actually get away with rez... people were rightfully annoyed. Her numbers cannot be too high as constant uptime beams make the devs wanna limit her output. While she does require skill, her kit gives her so much baseline value. She just needs to exist. A competent enough Mercy can get so much value (when she is strong). I agree Mercy needs buffs and hopefully they make her playeable without pissing people off.

I love our mercy girl so much, but the way she feels, the way im always forced onto moira or something because the team hates her. I really hope they have plans for her. I hate seeing her in this state. But at the same time, i know if they do anything to her, the community is gonna claim overpowered and try to force her back into a nerf again. I'm high plat low diamond, mercy is the hero I started this game for and i can't even enjoy her anymore. I miss her.
I'm still trapped in silver sadly, so I have a little bit of an easier time playing her down here. But at the same time I'm about to stop trying all together. I am about to become a kiri exclusive until they fix her.
When I played OW1 on console I climbed to GM with Mercy, I tried to do the same thing on PC with OW2 and it’s just miserable. It feels like you have no impact at all so I’ve had to force myself to learn Kiriko. :/
She went to one of my main support until they nerfed her movement for some ungodly reason... Even in early seasons a good Lucio could be way harder to kill than most Mercy's. Seems most people have lost all hope having Mercy redemption season. Rip 🙏

I recently talked about this topic with my friend, and I think that the argument of replacing res with the mirrorwatch res isn't really a good thought, because it doesn't fit her character. I adore mercy and her lore (like many others) so having a ability where the angelic, sweet doctor literally blows up somebodies soul sounds absolutely ridiculous. I came to the thought of letting her "overheat" her staff because of a line of dialogue she has with Mauga about forgetting to calibrate her staff to his higher body temp. I thought: "so, canonically she can already do that? Why not make it a actually useful ability (unlike res) that helps with her insanely slow healing (esp when they have the dps passive applied)" I'd say replace res with something called Overheat that lets her pump out double the healing per second for a short amount of time (like a friendly Ana nade effect) at the cost of making her healing slower per second afterwards (also for a short amount of time, so the staff can get back to regular temp). Maybe during this time, her damage boost goes up to 30%, so that she can still provide plenty of value? As for GA, I personally have the most fun with Mercy's versatile movement and her staff being her main "weapon", so I couldnt care less what happens to res (like pretty much every other mercy main). I still would like them to revert it back to how she was upon release, where GA was a simple flying dash towards the ally that you were targeting. Simple and effective, on a 1.5 second cooldown. Back then, it made Mercy truly feel like a guardian angel, zipping aroung on the field while you top everyone up. I dont have any problems with her ultimate, but I do wish we'd get sympathetic recovery in a buffed state during Valk, just to give Mercy a fighting chance against good dps players that will snipe you out of the sky instantly.
I really wish they reintroduce that mechanic for Mercy where she heals 65 on people below 50% HP. It was so fun playing her then when she had that, and especially in this new season she desperately needs a change like that to her heals because it's absolutely horrendous to try and heal on Mercy now because of how slow the time is. Especially in the place where Mercy is currently, where she's just the absolute worst pick of the season in comp and pro (when was she ever really good in pro other than moth meta) because of her heal numbers and her fully butchered kit.
Definitely. She's absolutely struggling right now and it's pathetic that she's been left like this for so long. What you're mentioning is her triage healing. In the current state of the game that would be a God sent for her. Even leaving it at the exact same numbers, with the 20% nerf to healing after being hit by a dps, she'd be golden. I'm actually going to do a video like this for kiri who's supposedly on the opposite side of the spectrum.
I think they could buff her healing and dmg boost while replacing her rez with a ability that gives a target ally with 25%or so damage reduction (scaling with that class they are bc tanks be invincible sometimes) and 10 or 15% movment speed buff for the duration of the ability of 6 seconds and enemys would see this buff by looking above their head and seeing a angelic halo(to go with the angel aesthetic she got)
it’s frustrating to play against characters that don’t share the same risk/reward structure as everyone else. mercy can avoid line of sight while still providing her full range of value, even revives. this is not the case with other support, to get full value they must face danger. mercy’s danger usually only comes once a team fight is already lost
Mercy is constantly in danger. The whole enemy team usually focuses on her first. If there's a sombra or tracer the mercy Is not going to have fun. Even many tanks make it their job to target her over many other heros
just to give you some perspective on why lots of people hate mercy. i’ve been mid gm for the past few years and mercy just promotes really boring gameplay anywhere past low diamond. yes there is a stigma around women playing mercy but there is a significant meta component to that. a good hitscan player with a mercy pocket completely dominates a lobby. damage amp changes damage breakpoints and time to kill resulting in super degenerate gameplay where the whole match revolves around the mercy and sojourn on each team. rez is also a cheap ability that feels bad to play against. i’m not saying mercy doesn’t take skill, she just feels uninteractive when she is on the enemy team. the other aspect to this is mercy being on your team. outside of pocketing a dps, mostly hitscans, she provides little value at higher ranks. as a tank player, unless i am playing sigma, mercy feels horrible to play with. she lacks significant utility like lucio speed or kiri suzu. she doesn’t really fit well with any tank and as a result lots of tank players get upset. if you have a mercy you are going to have a much more difficult time than the other team. i think your complaints about mercy’s weakness are totally fair. for a long time mercy has been kept intentionally weak because she is one of the most hated heroes in the game. mercy just needs a total rework. the focus of her character should be movement. if blue beam and res were removed and replaced with more interactive abilities she could be given more room in the meta.
I feel like they're too scared to rework her as well, sadly. If they were going to I feel they would have mentioned it by now. Idk what they could replace dB with that would feel as fluid and smooth to switch between like it is now. Lw has the issue where switching between dps and healing just takes too much time and feels clunky still. If they did anything to her like that where you had to switch it'd ruin her fluidity of gameplay and possibly her hero fantasy. And arguing about her dB seems a little disingenuous when zens orb exists. Ofc people think that should go as well, which I wouldn't mind.
@@AtlantisBrooke you can’t really compare discord to damage amp. discord has a ~30 meter range and the new lockout mechanic after it falls off. zen is also easier to take out of fights with pressure. mercy can damage amp soldier, ashe, widow, or soj way past 30 meters and still be effective. she can also do it behind cover so there is no way to pressure the mercy out. check out spilo’s videos on mercy for a much better explanation of everything i’ve said. he also has had a bunch of ideas on how to rework her. if the community asks for a rework eventually it will happen i just think most of the player base doesn’t realize she needs a total overhaul of her kit.
Couldn't have put it better myself. Mercy feels terrible to play, play with, and play against. As a support player I don't understand why people would want to play mercy over any other support that gives you real agency over the direction of your game. Mercy just feels like you are entirely banking on your teammates skill rather than your own.

mirrorwatch mercy felt so impactful and had such a good flow with the fast pace high damage overwatch 2 gameplay that it actually ruined the game for me. i loved playing mirrorwatch mercy so much that going back to regular mercy it just highlighted how terrible she feels right now and how little it feels like she does. Sure mirrorwatch mercy was overtuned but i highly preferred exploding souls to do damage and doing damage in other ways and feeling like I could actually help in a team fight rather than just hope and pray my healing and damage boost does enough to make a difference. Considering getting a res off feels so niche anyway i just wish they'd give us soul burn ooc or not at least i feel like im doing something
I feel like a lot of us loved mercy in mirrorwatch more than we do now. It doesn't help that she's in a very bad state currently either. I felt like I was doing something and helping the team in mirrorwatch. Now even in games getting 3k dmg boosted and 15k healing I'm telling myself I should have switched to someone else because any other character would be more impactful.
I love mercy so much because so much overwatch movement feels "scripted". Sojourns slide just goes in a direction and does its thing. tracers blinks just go in the direction you move. Mercy's movement feels so interactive because you can change what your doing in a really fluid way for overwatch second for second. its still stiff because overwatches engine does NOT compare to source physics for movement but i sitll love her for it. and this movement feels so wasted atm because while you can do cool stuff and avoid dying your not being that impactful for doing so, and a single death brings down your value a lot. I wish that mercy could feel impactful WITHOUT all the hate whenever she is. "your just spectator moding" is one of my least favorite things because your kinda playing winston in a way. low mechanical requirement to hit stuff so the emphasis is on thinking about positioning and when to make a play. yet noone complains about winston. rant over now but i just wish they can fix my girl.
I think we all want her to be fixed. And I hate the 'spectator' argument so much. Everyone stands around holding m1 most of the time anyways so hush lmao. They act like mercy isn't always the #1 target for everyone when she's alive and has to constantly be on the move.
Yeah, audio is a fight with me lol. I think the issue was me sometimes leaning away. I don't think I've had a single video not have audio issues at one point. But I'm glad you agree!
Windows has an inbuilt video editing software thats perfectly usable. I would recommend lowering the volume for the gameplay so you can actually be heard over it most of the time😅
I've been aching for a video like this! So happy to see this discussion! As a OW2 Mercy Main, I never played her in her "prime" but I have over 200 hours on her now and a lot I would love to improve the hero. I agree with you that if she is alone her GA should give her a small dash just so she doesn't lose an entire ability if she's alone :/ I also think that her blaster should give a .3 cooldown reduction for res for each shot she lands. It gives us more of an incentive to use the gun, even if the damage is laughable at best. I think those two changes alone are plenty to improve her quality of life without breaking her, but if we want to change the beam mechanics I have thoughts here too! I'd love to see her healing beam and damage beam have an effect beside their base utility. For healing beam I like the idea of a healing tick that lingers after she disconnects the beam for 3-5 ticks or maybe a passive effect that reduces all CC by 25%. I think it would help with survivability. For damage beam it would be cool if it increased the firing rate and reload speed as well as the current boost. If that's scary, I like the idea of damage done with mercy's damage boost applies 3-5 ticks of "burn" damage, and this damage should count towards mercy, not the DPS dealing the damage. Finally I think Mercy would benefit from having more health. I think since she's this angelic healthy specimen, 300 hp isn't crazy to have on her. I think even if they gave her less health and reverted the ga cooldown back to how it's been for ages, I'd be happy. And her glock is laughable. It's like shooting a toy gun. All these health changes and they left her only real form of defense if she's alone in a pathetic state. 20 dps is just not enough for anything. I used to be able to kill reapers who'd walk straight at me shooting. Now I can't. It's frustrating. I hardly use the glock now unless I'm in qp goofing around.

I use the Nvidia thing bc it's the only thing I have to record and every time I try to my mic audio is at like 50%. It's a struggle out here.
I've been aching for a video like this! So happy to see this discussion! As a OW2 Mercy Main, I never played her in her "prime" but I have over 200 hours on her now and a lot I would love to improve the hero. I agree with you that if she is alone her GA should give her a small dash just so she doesn't lose an entire ability if she's alone :/ I also think that her blaster should give a .3 cooldown reduction for res for each shot she lands. It gives us more of an incentive to use the gun, even if the damage is laughable at best.
I think those two changes alone are plenty to improve her quality of life without breaking her, but if we want to change the beam mechanics I have thoughts here too! I'd love to see her healing beam and damage beam have an effect beside their base utility. For healing beam I like the idea of a healing tick that lingers after she disconnects the beam for 3-5 ticks or maybe a passive effect that reduces all CC by 25%. I think it would help with survivability. For damage beam it would be cool if it increased the firing rate and reload speed as well as the current boost. If that's scary, I like the idea of damage done with mercy's damage boost applies 3-5 ticks of "burn" damage, and this damage should count towards mercy, not the DPS dealing the damage.
Finally I think Mercy would benefit from having more health. I think since she's this angelic healthy specimen, 300 hp isn't crazy to have on her.

I think even if they gave her less health and reverted the ga cooldown back to how it's been for ages, I'd be happy. And her glock is laughable. It's like shooting a toy gun. All these health changes and they left her only real form of defense if she's alone in a pathetic state. 20 dps is just not enough for anything. I used to be able to kill reapers who'd walk straight at me shooting. Now I can't. It's frustrating. I hardly use the glock now unless I'm in qp goofing around.
