When I mention in chat that I used to be in the top 500, people assume I'm kidding. They look up my account and ignore me since I'm merely trying to improve the OW community, but I've been a pro zen/lucio player and have been hardstuck diamond the entire time.

It's all the more proof just how much more teamwork and coordination there was in OW1. Everyone is communicating constantly and coming together as one unit, when the OW2 team, although communicating with each other, almost seemed like 5 independent players relaying information about their own observations.

This is how all competitive games should be… jumping into OW2 and not playing OW1, I literally cannot believe the lack of comms in the ranked range. I’ve played CS since 2015 and Val since its beta inception; never have I had an issue with comms in any of those games. Are people just socially inept now? And the whole “mute chat and people because toxic” just adds to the issue… it’s infuriating to deal with.

I miss playing with my zarya main friend coms even if people used to insult they were at least talking I reached gm only the last year of ow1 sadly so never really had the real ow1 experience

Me too. I remember when OW first came out and I chose Genji because of the cinematic. It was the most amazing and fun experience ive had in gaming
Fr, I would duo with my friend and we would run lobbies with Rein + Zar and have the best time with everyone talking. Now I get on am forced to lock Mauga and shoot the enemy Mauga for 10 mins and hope I win with no reward or lootbox at the end :(

All it takes to increase OW2's popularity is to add an OW1 mode maybe in arcade whatever where it is only OW1 heroes with OW1 abilities and 6v6

No because I play for the competitive aspect I never play arcade it needs to be a core competitive mode.
I met a group in Ranked OW1 back in like 2018 at midnight. 6 hours later we were the Big Dick Brigade and continued to grind rank for 6 months. The coms were peak OW

I actually wanted them to update the rank icons, but i really dont like how they turned out. The new ones look so dead, just like the rest of the UI
They were so good and looked cool. I grinded rank every day just to have one. Now the dream is dead and the new icons are so wack

I miss ow1 so much. Tank duos, cards after games and time to talk after a match, and possibly the biggest reason, lootboxes and leveling up giving an actual reason to keep playing the game

More like diamonds man. I was gold in ow1 and got to diamond decently fast have assing it. The metal ranks got easier the more new players came in. Support roles even more boosted compared to ow1.
while watching the last game it honestly made me really miss 2 cp. I was well aware of the issues with it but like jay said I feel like it was worth a shot with some tweaks in the OW 2 setting it would be just fine especially when we have game modes like push and flashpoint taking its place I wish 2 CP was in comp bro
it's in arcade almost every day now, I waited to Jay mention it, since ow2 players could have played it there
I feel like they could do choke points tweaks and make some spawns further/closer and it would be fine to play
@@rezq9109 In all fairness, the version in arcade is open queue. He meant seeing it in role queue (1 tank vs 2 tanks). It would play very differently.
By calling out a hero like Reinreinreinreinrein, I’m convinced the team will just target that hero and get picks - you can just call out any hero and the pick will happen 😭🤣
I prefer OW 1 and it’s not even close. I was half of a tank duo and it’ll never be the same without. I lost half of myself.

I mean playing ow1 was always a fkin good time, like grinding the lvl to open loot boxes, 2cp maps which were the most memorable and just the ranked system even if I was only gold at the time was way funnier

I’ve only played ow 2 and seeing old clips and videos on ow1 I can already tell I would’ve had much more fun in that game. Much more bare bones. More skill expression. No bs suzu and pay to win. Ye there were rly annoying metas like double shield and triple stun brig. But overall across over 30 seasons, the game looked much much better and healthier.
You should do OW1 vs OW2 again BUT this time you have all the abilities for the OW1 team reversed back to how they used to work JUST for the OW1 team and leave the OW2 team as is. Like orissa has the power charger and the shield and pull. Sym has all her stuff back. Torb the same. Roadhog the same etc

I quit during goats. When I heard Jay say "Goats lasted 11 months if it lasted 2 months or even a season it would have been fine" I actually fully agree and I hated that meta... I realize I hated it AFTER 6 MONTHS of just being stuck playing Zarya every game as a hitscan main.

Would go pretty much the same ngl. From personal experience, I was gold tank, silver support, and silver to bronze dps in OW1. Im not diamond on tank, plat on dps, and masters on support. The average diamond or masters from back then is currently gm, and would smoke most players like me.

They saw that ana and shot where the ana was moving towards without thinking about the bus. I do it sometimes it's just a mistake, I see plenty of other people do it too.
The Ana never peaked the bus and they didn't stop shooting when they readjusted to the Ana
all i can say is benefit of the doubt, might be lag, it happens to me whenever i lag i get those jumpy aim on replay mode

you asked during the vid whether we prefer ow1 or ow2. i go with ow1 :) i enjoyed the teamplay between tanks. 5v5 is just a lazy take on solving some balance issues and thats exactly how ow2 feels like atm.

I miss the overwatch 1 ranking system, this stupid "win 5 of lose 15 games" to get a rank is nonsense. I liked it a lot more when you just lost or gained points after a game. The cards were cool at the end of a game. I kind of liked the 6v6 and think they could bring it back somehow, perhaps on certain maptypes. I dont like what they did to support roles, though they kept their word, as the queue time finally balanced out now that all the dps players are quitting.
OW2 is better because they actually manage to update the game every now and again, the ingame shop(whatever you think of it) was a smart move because now keeping the servers up isnt a moneysink for them anymore.
OW1 GM’s are legit GM’s. OW2 has rank inflation since it’s now a free game so OW2 GM aren’t true GM’s in OW1 standards.
Notice how pleasant the OW1 folks were while communicating? I miss those days.

@@lil_littledude not necessarily, it's just rank inflation. With OW2 ranked system change many players who really don't deserve their rank (not saying in a insulting way) managed to get to high ranks regardless.
A lot of OW2 GMs were either masters or diamonds in Overwatch 1, some were even plat.
While the grind to get into GM in ow1 was rough, so that's why Ow1 GMs are actually pretty fucking good, they got there due to their own efforts and didnt get carried to their rank by a poor designed ranked system.

yes because like 10,000 people were playing ow1 in s36, now the game has a much bigger playerbase who mostly had to learn the game from scratch
The first few seasons of ow1 gm are not any better, but of course 6 years of experience and most non hardcore players dropping the game they figured it out
One thing i missed about ow1 is the community, people actually talked in comms, now everyone is mute, and the people who do talk are just shit talk. Overwatch is so much more fun when people actually talk.

Yeeaaahhh but the problem with loot boxes in general had always been "it incentivizes gambling." But like, between that, and Battle passes, I don't really know which one I want because battle passes can feel like a chore.
OW1 was such peak gameplay tbh. I miss it so much. The maps were amazing.

I was in a semi-league for fun back in OW1 and comms were exactly like that. Target priority and focus was a different experience, nowadays comms are dead and I do believe it's because there's 1 less person to shot-call
before the match even started I laughed at the "where's my off tank?" in the text chat.
I don't think healer passive on everyone is a good thing or a bad thing but I think Overwatch might attacking the wrong angle. I feel like the frustrating part of the game is that it's a team game with Jenga like balance. One player falls over your entire team fight could be lost. As a healer it feels frustrating to be forced to play a specific healer or rush to the aid of player only for them to fall over in 1 second. As a tank you either feel invincible or you pop like a balloon. As a DPS you can feel alone and like everything is on you to perform. All of this I think is because damage/healing is too high.
No matter what happens via matchup, we can all agree that OW1 was probably 5x as fun.

They should add 2 cp back because it adds more variety. The addition of flashpoint made the game feel more fresh and added more to both the map pool and gameplay. 2 cp would only increase that.

I prefer old Overwatch 1 as it was way more fun maybe I am saying it as I played from my uncle's computer but i still prefer old mechanics like mccree's stuns and more. I love the on fire whenever you get a big super like genji zarya and ana ult combo for sixtuple kills and loot boxes. It was also probably more satisfying to get play of the game back then. Doomfist as offense character with uppercut and when bastion could be turret form forever with healing abilities. Torb super with stage 3 turret. Symettra with 6 turrets and everyone in your team played symettra to cheese. The old system with the broze frames and can be gotten to level 100 5 star gold would be so satisfying
You should do this again but:
-ow1 team has another tank but they both have nerfed stats
-ow1 team can only play ow1 characters

The biggest difference between the players is the ow1 gms have been high elo for way longer and therefore are likely to have broader skillsets. I think it was always more likely for ow1 to win this.

That is the main problem with OW2. They weren't willing to retain a lot of things from the past game after the substantial changes they did to a lot of things in the game. Like 6v6 Double Shield would be dead with Orisa changes. Or 2CP being viable with one less tank. Small things like this ended up adding up in a desperate attempt to fundamentally change how OW2 is played that trickled down all the way from OW2 early development. (They focusing on it and leaving OW1 to die a slow death, only to be what we have today.)

It's not hard to make a hero that counters shields. Like, make Symmetra's beam pierce, or whatever. Blizzard went straight for the nuclear option.

It would be super interesting to see OW1 players with an OW1 setup versus an OW2 team with an OW2 setup.
Maybe not 6v5, but let the OW1 team play with open queue hero selection. Find a way to let the OW1 players use OW1 balance heroes and don't let them use any OW2 heroes at all, too. Give Sym her old gun, Bastion his self heal, all the good stuff.

I wasn't a major fan of them, but I never paid a cent and I unlocked every skin in the game vs the battlepass where if I don't spend 80$ a season I just don't get all the skins

Rank in Ow1 was much more rewarding when you won because all the players were better so you knew you deserved your rank and even while loosing, still frustrating as f and happened more frequently, youd at least get levels and hunt for loot boxes. Ow2 is such a tunnel vision since the PVE didnt work out in my opinion. It only wants us to spend money in the game rather than play to be rewarded which kept many of my friends hooked. I wish the devs kept the focus on what it already had, even if their PVE idea at the time before we knew theyd drop it sounded amazingly cool, because then the game would probably be more fun and exciting and they wouldnt have players dropping out left and right. They could likely keep the 2 tank games as well. Such a waste honestly
