- Adam and Norm unbox two new prop replicas from the Dune films: United Cutlery's recreation of Duncan Idaho's blade from the first film and Insight Editions collectors edition Thumper that accompanies the second film's official making-of book! It's also an excuse to talk about what we loved from the most recent Dune and our hopes for the third movie!

Adam, you HAVE to make a working thumper, in metal so it has the sound to.
I’d like to see that too but I have a feeling that it’s more about the medium it’s thumping (sand) and the mass/speed of the thumper.
@@Shawwblagoo The thumping comes from the foley.
I was going to comment the same and saw someone else did, definitely needs to be done with a heavy metal and a worm drive arrangement, I can imagine the design now it seems so simply.
It would be awesome if someone (like Adam) could design a thumper with a wind up mechanism so it’s lore accurate.
At 9:49 they say they're going to so look forward to that.
Having other grown ass humans share the passion and enthusiasm around props and prop replicas that a pleb in the wild does is absolutely soul satisfying. Adam and norm, you are my sprit animals!
I have to admit that I did squeal a little when the thumper was unveiled. Thanks for showing this off guys.
What does it do? I never saw the movie.
@@gunner4544 it thumps.
@@gunner4544You have done yourself a disservice
I know the Adam videos perform the best which is why the channel moved to an all-Adam format (when before, most videos were not-Adam) but having Norm on screen adds energy that is appreciated.
Agreed, Norm ups the nerdy energy.
“Mood is a thing for cattle and love play!” … Gurni has several good lines that are funny but not jokes 😂
Why are cattle and love play in the same pigeon hole in your head Gurney?
@@harbl99 hang on I’ll get my space lute and play you the song I wrote about it!
For those of you who might be interested... The steel is 3cr13, which would allow you to sharpen it if so desired.
"3Cr13 is a stainless steel that offers consumers today a lower price point for fairly good knife performance. It has seen use typically among kitchen knives and some utility tools. It is not the favorite steel among professional chefs or situations where the hardness of the blade is vital. It is a lower-end, low-hardness steel with decent toughness and rust resistance."
Stainless steel is not suitable for long blade construction. They will literally chip and shatter (well maybe not chip, but definitely shatter, which can be extremely dangerous).
@@Bozothcow May your blade chip and shatter indeed
@@Bozothcow Steel usually does only one thing, either its too hard and it will shatter or its too soft and it will dent
Yup that's why you don't make swords out of stainless steel. Good for decoration because they don't require maintenance but you can't actually use them.
THE SPICE MUST FLOW...
They never say this in either of the new Dune movies!
It's also never said in the book, iirc
@@dominicklam6090 It was never called the Spice melange either
Bring back the podcast!! You could do them occasionally when there's a big topic like Dune! I miss it! 😄
I have to second that. Some form of the podcast. Maybe even substitute one of the live chats. I really miss the podcast.
More votes for the podcast! Seriously missing"This is only a Test" and "Still Untitled" :,(
“HA …HA…HA! WOOOOOOW!” - Adam, *after making a working Thumper that summons an actual grandfather sandworm.*
As someone working on my own high detail functional replica of the thumper. That slow tight shot of the model was a godsend for getting some of the fine details into the model. Those little socket cap screws and cutouts inside the base were all but invisible in every other reference piece I had.
Admit that deep deep inside you expect that something awesome will happen when you finally deploy it.
"It's a static prop." "It's a static prop! WHAT?!" My reaction when I pour through collector's editions.
I am 100% sure the thumper shell is based on an agricultural liquid fertilizer mixer.
The Dosatron brand has just the same general shape and size.
Can't wait for the working Sandworm Thumper 1DB
Is there any long format content of Adam and Norm chatting about dune 2?
Like that Norm and Adam are like brothers opening a joint present on Christmas after being told to politely open it together and barely being able not to knock each other out of the way in their fervor to unbox it.
You’re spot on with this, Norm is the fussy little brother getting in the way and spoiling it by telling you what it is before you open it. Pisses me off a bit.
@@razorsitch9882 Sounds like you need to have a heart to heart with your brother about some unresolved issues. ;-)
@razorsitch9882 I have to absolutely agree. It does annoy me watching them together for that reason alone. Its like they are kind of both fighting for the best part for the video all the time.
@@curtisbme I’m an only child so no, not really
A great follow up addition would be a pair of worm riding hooks.
11:06 This is a surprisingly good thumper impression lol
At some point in Dune 2 at Regal Hacienda Crossing IMAX, Apple chimed in that I was experiencing "unhealthy sound volume"... I was, and It. Was. Mag. Ni. Fi. Cent! 👏👏👏
Speaking of the podcast, been missing it! Totally understand how much time it takes, but I miss the nerd banter between Norm and Adam
Hearing you two talk about Dune reminds me to politely request you BRING BACK THE PODCAST!
I love seeing you two nerding out about dune, its one of my favorites!
the sword looks amazing, if it's on the same level as the crysknife they did an amazing job
Dune part two was epic can't wait for part 3
Can't wait for the working thumper ODB!
Love these two together
Vacuum Form machine in the background. Please to a show & tell & a demonstration Tested ♥️
I love how the Kali salute is now the official Dune salute.
I love how Norm and Adam have ended up with the same frames.
Thumper recalling must be fun.
Seeing Adam reveal a box inside a box inside a box... while unveiling the sword is both a funny and mesmerizing experience.
I've been almost 40 years waiting for these films.
I love the original Lynch version, despite its many flaws, and the book is just something that is very close to my heart.
I was in a constant state of wonder throughout the two films, with a smile on my face.
The cast was wonderfully picked. Timothée Chalamet physical demeanor is the embodiment of Frank Herberts description of Paul. Duncan Idaho the apex Atreides warrior and Gurney... wow... I could be rambling for hours on how much I loved these films and can't wait for the 3rd one.
Hopefully, Denis will proceed to direct "Rendezvous with Rama", which another passion of mine.
Even though it's a cool little prop the thumper still looks like a moveable garden sprinkler to me 😂
Or like those solar pathway lights
I can't unsee an agricultural fertilizer mixer pump.
More so than the 3rd Dune... I'm looking forward to Dennis' take on Rendezvous with Rama!
Hah, when Momoa held that in the movie it just looked like an oversized dagger, or some cross between a dagger and a short sword, but when Adam holds it, it looks like a sword.
Any episode of _Stargate Atlantis_ where the crew had to wear non-prop spacesuits was Jason's body double. Because his head wouldn't fit inside the helmets, which is why they shot him from behind.
Wrapped in spice cloth. Nifty!
I'll be psyched if they ever bring back the podcast, I miss still untitled!
You should do a another segment on the 1984 dune movie props example the weirding modules finger gom jabbar etc
Wow this looks amazing. The sword just popped up on Amazon a couple weeks ago. I’ll definitely be getting one. I’ve gone Dune crazy.
Will you guys share the measures for us to have as reference in case we design, 3d print our own? Wish I could get that box but I will have to live vicariously through you:-)
Eyyy its Norm
Simply wonderful!! Love Villeneuve Dune!
i like the Knives fae the new Dune movies, but i have to admit i love the ones fae Lynch's Dune movie more.
the Crysknife in Lynch's Dune just looked so awesome.
Would love for you to have a podcast again.
I'm curious who decided to make House Atreides deisgns all angular and Harkonnen organic/round. You can see what looks like a cube-shaped Barony citadel @8:29 when they're sorting the production art. That's how it was described in the books, albeit more rectangular with a rooftop park/forest.
why didnt you use the sword to open the second box?!?!?
The sword is not sharpened. He even said it's a dulled blade so it would have been pretty unwieldy.
i want to know whats Adam's EDC knife, to open those boxes
Please do a show & tell about the Vacuum Form behind you guys 👍🏼
Great video sir
DUUUUUUNE!!!!!
It's so good!
I'm like 2 seconds in and I am, is that a new vacuum forming Adam has behind him?
I do miss the "Still Untitled" videos with these two and Will. It's actually my favorite content from Tested. The 3 of them had a unique banter.
The Art of Dune books are amazing. I’m hoping they release the digital Blade Runner version some day
As a lifelong reader of sci-fi, it seems like the world building thanks should go to Frank Herbert for conceiving of Dune and the director, cast and crew for bringing it to life. Love the channel, keep up the good work!
I'm doing *my* second Dune 2 tn 😌
Katana hilts are _not_ wrapped in leather. They are shaped wooden blocks that are wrapped in the skin of a kind of ray (fish), with is related to sharks. They use that skin because it is naturally rough. The hilt is then wound about with flat silk cord. The ray skin is what looks like white diamond patterns because of the dark silk cording is wound over it in a way that exposes parts of it in those shapes.
I wish we can see the lasgun, they look cool
So cool
damn i feel like that 3d printed articulating thumper i keep seeing on reddit is that much better now.
wasnt Stilluntitled their podcast?
Yup. Very much worth a listen!
I hope he finishes the suit and knive before Dune messiah comes along. Be great to see that! Maybe even who knows a little inside look like they did for Ghostbusters. That’s be so awesome!
Isn't sandworm poop, spice? I had wondered about where and how they recovered the thumpers as well
A shop full of tools, and Adam still uses a key to open the box. Great!
Yes, i'm waiting for this for looong, long time ... Since the 70ties 😁🤣🤪
So cool 👍
A prop love from Dune is the Matador sculpture in Paul’s room. I keep trying to find a good quality version but they all seem to have those 3d print ridges and are tiny.
I really loved the whole:
"*Insert Quote*, by the Princess Irulan" stuff from books... maybe that is why the biggest problem I have with Dune 2 is that Irulan is unnamed for the entire Movie ^^*
Nice 😺 In addition to a functional Thumper, can y’all make a Paracompass too? The tech involved and world building was only slightly touched upon in the films, make it real for us all! Cheers 🍻
I just realized something - Feyd's short white arena blade in the film looks a lot like Lynch's crysknives!
A working still suit Adam? Zoinks!!! 🤔😁
Apple absolutely loves you guys. Selling a 4 thousand dollar vr headset to watch flat movies on!
Its the pro master crafters set of badges
I remember you overheating in many of your costumes.
When you make a stillsuit, you should put some clever liquid cooling system in it
Now do some of the camping equipment. I love those tents and assorted camping gear!
Bring back the Adam podcasts please! Even sporadically would be fine.
Feels like forever since seeing Norm, where's he been?
If you think Apple is good, try Quest or Index or if realy for the graphic - Pimax
"One day I'll catch Gurney without an apposite quotation to mind, and he will look naked." -- Duke Leto
Just make sure it doesnt ship and shatter on your way home
Poweder coated then finish machined
Great collection. As to the demerit badges how about "The Complete Demerit Badge Collection for the Ultimate Screw Uppers." I do not know anyone shoe is a model builder who isn't guilty of all of demerit badges.
When I saw the Dune swords I thought they were made by Extrema Ratio!
Cool‼️👍
What does Adam have on his keychain to open the boxes?
Something sharp?😂
Like a keychain knife
How did you get that’s 😱😱
How do I get these man I want those soooooo badly even if they're just replicas!
"been around the block" a couple of times badges of honor
I probably can't afford the box that book came in 😅
Call the bundle Demeritus Maximus
Hey has anyone ever asked on a live stream about all the different jackets that Adam wore on MB?
oh bring the podcast back please...
please bring the podcast back!
The lack of IMAX on 4K blu ray is stupid. Come on.
HAHAHAHA I did exactly the same, opening the insights edition case. Thumpers a beauty but was kind of a letdown especially since no display stand was included. For the price we paid, I would have expected it
Maybe you could bring back the podcast? It would be great to have it again.
I found both movies lacking the the DUNE signature weirdness. I wanted to see the Navigators instead of the human spider thing.
They could have explored what there are no robots. And the absolute super power that are the MENTATs.
But all that aside I like the VFX and acting.
I loved the books and the movies but have almost no interest in the props, book, or production photos. I’m glad those guys get so much joy from them.
Where's the live upload from last week??
from what i remember.. many of the swords used in the movie is made by zombietools
Adam please make a House Atreides matador statue from the first film
