I’m a backer of this as well. Since backing up though I got a KPlus for filter and then got the espresso bug and have been exploring a lot of electric grinders. Curious if the Arco is close to the Niche in flavor and can serve as the primary conical on a coffee bar with say a p64 as the flat.
The price point on this one destroys the Niche. I hope it's capabilities are comparable. I'm thinking this would definitely be great for anyone getting into coffee recently. It should satisfy all their grinding needs in one purchase.

Hey, it's available as a hand grinder or as a 2-in-1 set. And for those who purchased the hand grinder only, we'll have electric docks only available. Just need to ship the grinders out to all the backers first, then everything will be available.
I'm truly impressed. I hope they'll keep this price range, because I have a feeling once all the reviews come out, there will be a high demand for it. This is what the average home barista is truly looking for. 1. It produces good filter and espresso. 2. You can take it anywhere. 3. It's affordable. 4. It looks great. 5. The grind setting is easy and very usable. 6. It doesn't take up much space and can easily be tucked away in a cabinet. 7. It appears to be durable. (Yet to be seen) 8. It's ridiculously easy to use. I'm certain there will be a portafilter holder mod available soon, as it will be very easy to produce for this machine design. Matter of fact, it will probably support the wood block portafilter countertop holders already being produced and sold. Along with a dosing ring... badda-bing badda-boom. Oh my! I didn't see this product coming... but I feel that I should have. It's SO sensible. BRAVO, GOAT STORY! BRAVO!
Great intro, great video! I regret now not ordering it. I think it made to the top of the list when I'll be getting a new grinder. V2 suggestion: RPM control, or at least 2 speed button.
I wondet if it is consistant between grinding batch to batch...will it overheat the motor? Looking forward for tha info Nice video btw...love your objective review....thank you
Given that the SPTK-38G is about $120USD cheaper than the ARCO, I'd love to hear your thoughts on how they compare without getting into the debate about whether the SPTK-38G is a Lagom Mini knockoff. Most grinders borrow from the designs of other grinders on the market (look at the DF64 and the Lagom P64). Personally I don't care if one grinder looks like another, I only care about overall value and quality in the cup.
Haha, it’s one think to look like another grinder. It’s another to share the exact same body design. The sptk is a mini with a skirt - I’ve taken it apart haha. But I hear you on value! It’s why I made the video on the sptk! It’s a good grinder. But regardless I’ll be sure to share my thoughts on this soon! 😄
@@KyleRowsell thanks Kyle! Loved your video on the SPTK. And I agree with you, it's very very similar to the Mini. I've been grinding it out (pun intended) with a hand grinder for espresso for almost 2 years now. At the point where I was about to pull the trigger on a DF64, but it seems in the past 6 months the options in the budget to midrange grinders has started to explode, which makes my decision even harder. Dunno if a DF64 is still the way to go or if I should go for one of these newcomers (SPTK-38G, Lagom Mini, ARCO, or who knows what'll come next...) Cheers! Love your videos! Keep going!!
Seems like this has to be reviewed against both electric and hand grinders, since some aren’t even getting the base, but those with the base will probably use it primarily as an electric grinder. You’ve got your work cut out for you and thanks for awesome content! Can’t wait to see more here as I wait for mine, also loved that b roll!
Looking good, mine's due in a week (once I've paid the import fees :( ) - does that mean your full review will come out before I receive mine? Looking forward to your thoughts up against the C40 (I own) and the K-Plus (I don't own - can you have too many grinders?) - I recognise the intro music from other Kickstarter campaigns ;)
I was literally just about to purchase a 1Zpresso K-Max, and then the notification for this video popped up. I guess now I need to figure out if I should get this one instead. Good price for a hand grinder!
Almost backed this when it was first announced but was concerned with the noise and speed of the motor. Just from this video, I'm glad I didn't back it: the noise is grating to me.
It looks big Both the electric base as well as using it manually as a hand grinder. I love the smaller size of the lagom mini. It is concerning that it would make fines. This is why I ordered hand grinding as I find less fines to be present.
Thanks for the comment! To answer your It’s honestly no bigger than most grinders. The lagom is abnormally small. Don’t think too much into the fines it’s producing. Yes the motor produces more fines but not to a point that drastically changes the brew. Enough to make mention. This is simply due to rpm effects on grind distribution. I’ll talk more about it in the review
I'd like to see a taste comparison with the Kinu M47 if you have it. Or just try to fit their pour over cone burr in the Arco. The main issue reported with that burr is that it takes a lot more time to grind, something that matters less in an electric grinder.
The price gap on those 2 is large. But I think we can make some informed speculations. 1. Build quality - Key 2. Ease of use - Arco 3. Portability - Arco 4. Aesthetics - subjective 5. Flavor profile - subjective 6. Value for money - Arco 7. Durability - TBT but probably Key 8. Ease of adjustment - Arco 9. Electric Grinding Features - Key 10. Quietness - Key The only things really to be determined are longevity and flavor profile.
I'm actually glad that I cancelled my ARCO order and went with the Ode with SSP burrs. A lot of form and function, quieter that I get from the Ode that I don't from the ARCO. And the Ode is just more beautifully designed in my opinion.
Handing the Lagom Mini makes you wonder if we need a product like this. If it can be highly portable and electric at the same time, do you really need a hand grinding option?
Jay Loden you’re definitely right, and I don’t see hand grinders going anywhere anytime soon. But I think the group of people that grind without access to an outlet is defining a minority. Even when camping most people have access to an outlet these days.
For this, would you think a mod to reduce the rpm benefit the grind consistency? Tbh, the high pitching sound is not my favorite. Sounds like a cheap vaccum
@@KyleRowsell I guess I really need to try a high end manual grinder. I only have a Hario and a Handground. The other high-end hand grinders probably have a much smoother grind mechanism. Thank you very much for all your videos! I look forward to them every time!
@@reidintx7570 thanks for watching! Comments and interaction like this truly help grow the channel and give the videos more viewed which in turn helps others!
Interesting concept! I like it has a small profile and doesn’t take up counter top space. What would be really interesting to see is the comparison of taste and extraction of using it as electric vs hand
Generally higher rpm means more fines and more body possibly usually you get more bitterness and less flavour clarity. Hand grinding speed is pretty low rpm vs the motor and should give more clarity and shot times would run faster (most likely). I haven't used this one but found that's the case on other grinders.
@@BensCoffeeRants Exactly, but previously when people show this it's either using 2 different grinders, or the low RPM can't go as low as a handgrinder. So I think this could serve as a great comparison
Awesome Kyle! I want to know how the electric mode works for filter (because of the fines) and how the manual one works for espresso (if you want it on the go)
Great Start, can't wait for the second video. I am currently waiting on mine to arrive, you mention the catch cup is plastic, it should be metal with a Plastic Sleave. Does it really feel that plasticy?
@@KyleRowsell phew, Hoping not, loving the fact you can use it straight into the portafilter tipped upside down instead of a dosing funnel. Eagerly awaiting mine as i'm currently using the VSSL Hand Grinder.
I almost backed this crowdfund grinder and backed out. Kinda happy I did considering the delay. So far there’s nothing I regret. Interesting note about he push either the coffee community. Looking forward to pt2.
Thanks for the comment! And yes, they are doing a campaign which I think is smart marketing. But I feel it’s important for those who receive the grinder to disclose that it was gifted from goat story. I believe this is important.
@@KyleRowsell I don't understand what u meant by "those who receive the grinder diclose that it was gifted". But I agreed with J Juntras. U made a smart move not backing and went for something elses. My plan was a Niche as electric grinder and ARCO for Single origin that I might change day to day depending on my mood But when the ARCO was delayed for n'th times, I just went ahead and ordered the Eureka Single Dose preorder last year and I have already received the Eureka. I am still waiting the Update on the ARCO and notification from DHL. They are still delaying it.
Took a look at the campaign and this looks really interesting. I just ordered the lagom mini, so I definitely need a comparison between the two, but this would also definitely suit my needs a ton! Also the B-roll looking nice!
I would like to know how significant the taste differences are between the electric and hand configurations. To my knowledge, conical burrs tend to excel at very low RPMs and the electric configuration appears to be higher than is considered optimal. Thus, how does the electric configuration compare to the manual configuration and more importantly, does is it the better option with the exception of convenience. This leads me to think, why not buy a different hand grinder in the same price bracket that is already well established and potentially is on a later iteration of improved design. I wish the grinder market would show less preference to multi-purpose or multi function grinders at this price point and look towards perfecting or innovating well established and tested technology.
It’s a great question! I do believe not everyone wants multiple grinders. The benefit of one grinder means grind sizes translate a lot easier between electric and manual vs 2 separate grinders. But everyone is different. It’s also been a great electric grinder on its own to be fair.
@@KyleRowsell that's reassuring to hear. I'm really excited to see your findings and hear your thoughts on it. If the Goat can excel as both a manual and electric grinder, that could put it on my ever growing wishlist 😂 Thanks for taking the time to respond. You are one of my top preferred reviewers and it largely comes down to your positive, community focussed attitude. All the best mate.
I can't help thinking ... if you get this, you're going to end up using it either one way or the other. If electric, you could and should have gotten a DF64 instead. If as a hand grinder ... well, you could have just saved a whole bunch of money. The flexibility itself is not going to make better cups ... I'm not sold. But I'm looking forward to your next video on this!
Nice and patiently impression. Can't wait to see the full review. However I would like you add J-Max to that rivalry review. Because this grinder offers very small burr gap between each step, and currently I've learned that the smallest burr gap among stepped hand grinder is J-Max (at least most popular)
I was really wondering about the RPM when you first turned on the motor and it obviously went really fast. Why would they build something that will produce less fines and therefor (arguably) better coffee when you use it by hand? They should have done something similar to the Lagom mini in terms of motor. PS. Also I don‘t like the design. Looks like it belongs in a gym or something haha.
There's a lot not to like about the coverage. It does not delve into important points that the designer intended when he created this grinder. The quality of the materials is perfect, the finish, the assembly, the motor is noisy because it is a fast rotating motor with a gear that makes the rotations slow, otherwise they could not afford the price for the grinder. In my opinion, the coverage is neither good nor professional. I highly recommend the grinder, there is a lot to like about it
Well Kyle…I’ve been watching your content for years unsubscribed and as an Arco hand and electronic grinder backer; I will now “have” to subscribe to make sure I don’t miss Part 2. I currently own a Sette 270Wi and am interested in the comparison between C40, 1Zpresso, Niche, Lagom Mini and possibly the P64. I also have an older Baratza Vario W enroute to me. I make V60’s and espresso for my caffeine addiction. Thanks for the content and am glad you have finally caused me to subscribe.
What took so long?! Joking aside welcome friend, I’m Glad you’ve finally subscribed! I’ll keep these in mind for the comparison. If not the arco review, a much larger review I’m working on comparing single dosing grinders 👍🏼
In theory I should like this, in reality I’m not interested in a grinder like this at all. If I was to get another high end hand grinder it’d be the K-Plus. I may be one of the weird ones that doesn’t mind manually grinding my beans. The motor option adds no value. If I really want to get crazy, I’ve got a hand drill.
Same here. I moved to the 1zpresso JX Pro earlier this year from the Sage Smart Grinder Pro and given that I only make two coffees for me and one for the wife each day I don't see the benefit of and electric grinder anymore. Making that moved improved my coffee because I was forced to buy scales. I really can't see how any other grinder would improve my flat whites.
This was a grinder I initially backed early on and then dropped out of the campaign. I don't regret doing it. I have a decent JXP for hand grinding, just looking to upgrade the electric grinder (lady doesn't hand grind...) sometime in the future. The Ode is likely going to be it.
Why does the 2-1 aspect of this grinder need to exist? When I travel I want a smallish hand grinder and not one on the bulky side. I do not find the design appealing at all. It looks like a trap under your kitchen trap. I'll admit to some it may be a sleek design. Once you turned on the electric motor then I heard where they made cuts to keep it at the price it is. You're right it sounds like a cheap vacuum. For me this is an easy pass. My guess is that it won't perform much better or better at all when compared to what is on the market already.
I’d respectfully disagree! I get messaged daily about people wanting to upgrade their hand grinder because their tired of hand grinding. This fits a happy medium - best of both worlds!
Hard pass on the design of the Arco. Maybe the second gen can make it look nicer. // Recently, I have been buying Trunk Coffee's beans. Since they are in Japan, they don't get a lot of play in the USA, but Trunk is doing some great stuff with their growers. Most recently, their "cultur-in" beans have been a game changer for me. By adding a starter to the soak, they get some really awesome flavors out of them.
Well... You've decided to purchase the grinder 6 months ago and u are reviewing it now. And I bet u've got weeks before this review. Unfortunately many many early backers including the "funded in 30minutes" group of people doesn't even know when we are going to get our grinders. Delays after delays and kept thr backers in the dark with words like "good news, we didn't update because we weren't sure about the shipping, the manufacturers, etc etc etc... And now we know the dates." and of course, they didn't keep their promises. And one thing I really do not appreciate was "It's always someoneelse's fault."
Hey timz! You’re correct in that I’ve been able to get my unit early. But I was put on their shipping list in the fall/winter of 2020. I decided to pay as anyone else would rather than being gifted the grinder to review like others will. This is to ensure an unbiased video and share my honest thoughts. It is unfortunate that it’s been so delayed but it’s not uncommon for kickstarters. Look at the fellow ode. It too faced similar shipping delays.

They do have an option to simply buy the hand grinder... at least they did at one point.
Hey, it's available as a hand grinder or as a 2-in-1 set. And for those who purchased the hand grinder only, we'll have electric docks only available. Just need to ship the grinders out to all the backers first, then everything will be available.
@@goatstory7117 Thank you for the confirmation!
The Arco really is what a lot of people are looking for!
Great review Kyle!
Thanks! Not quite a review but that’s to come!
Happy Father’s Day sir! Interesting grinder. Can’t wait for the review
Thank you! Appreciate it friend. All the best!!
the little piece of plastic actually serves quite an important role, it's a ferrite bead. it cuts EMF
Which piece are you referring to?
Oh dang I really like that you can use hand or electric!
Very unique!
(Yet to be seen)
BRAVO!
Great comment! Stoked to share more!!
@@KyleRowsell and I'm stoked to see more!
I'd like a comparison with the Niche and DF64 on motors. K-Plus, J-Max, Kingrinder K6, and Commandant on manual grinding.
Great intro, great video! I regret now not ordering it. I think it made to the top of the list when I'll be getting a new grinder.
V2 suggestion: RPM control, or at least 2 speed button.
Great suggestions! Thanks for watching!
I don't love the look but I love the concept.
Can't wait to hear more!
Can’t wait to share more! Thanks for watching
I wondet if it is consistant between grinding batch to batch...will it overheat the motor? Looking forward for tha info
Nice video btw...love your objective review....thank you
Man i still have their horn mug from their first kickstarter like years ago. Will you compare it to the Lagoom Mini ?
I will!
Dunno if a DF64 is still the way to go or if I should go for one of these newcomers (SPTK-38G, Lagom Mini, ARCO, or who knows what'll come next...)
Cheers! Love your videos! Keep going!!
@@chichibents thanks friend! I’ve got some very interesting videos in the works over the next few months that should interest you. 😊
I’m definitely interested, just trying to figure out if the arco is a good option for a first electric grinder
Hm, good question! Stay tuned for the review
I would love it if you would compare it with Kinu and Niche
I’ll keep that in mind
Seems like this has to be reviewed against both electric and hand grinders, since some aren’t even getting the base, but those with the base will probably use it primarily as an electric grinder. You’ve got your work cut out for you and thanks for awesome content! Can’t wait to see more here as I wait for mine, also loved that b roll!
Thanks, you’re right. It’s not an easy review. A big reason why I wanted to get my first impressions out to hold off the review.
Full review to come!
If you could get your hands on that kit that converts the comodante into a motorized grinder, that would be pretty useful.
I'll see what I can do!
Almost backed this when it was first announced but was concerned with the noise and speed of the motor. Just from this video, I'm glad I didn't back it: the noise is grating to me.
It looks big
Both the electric base as well as using it manually as a hand grinder.
Looking forward to part 2 👍
Can’t wait to share more!
I'd like to see a taste comparison with the Kinu M47 if you have it. Or just try to fit their pour over cone burr in the Arco. The main issue reported with that burr is that it takes a lot more time to grind, something that matters less in an electric grinder.
That would be a fantastic comparison.
Hi Kyle, I would love to see the Weber key included in your comparison, particularly from the aspect of both being crowdfunded projects
The price gap on those 2 is large.
But I think we can make some informed speculations.
1. Build quality - Key
2. Ease of use - Arco
3. Portability - Arco
4. Aesthetics - subjective
5. Flavor profile - subjective
6. Value for money - Arco
7. Durability - TBT but probably Key
8. Ease of adjustment - Arco
9. Electric Grinding Features - Key
10. Quietness - Key
The only things really to be determined are longevity and flavor profile.
I'm actually glad that I cancelled my ARCO order and went with the Ode with SSP burrs. A lot of form and function, quieter that I get from the Ode that I don't from the ARCO. And the Ode is just more beautifully designed in my opinion.
Glad to hear you made the right decision Alex! All the best!
Handing the Lagom Mini makes you wonder if we need a product like this. If it can be highly portable and electric at the same time, do you really need a hand grinding option?
Some might. But I hear hear you’re saying. I’ll share more thoughts in the review
some people do occasionally grind coffee in places that don’t have electric outlets 🙂👍🏼
I like the sound of the Lagom Mini better. I also really think I'd prefer the vertical cranking direction of the Handground hand grinder.
Fair enough! To each their own I guess!
@KyleRowsell that would actually be a really good idea for a video. Inexpensive grinder versus expensive.
would love to know how this compares to the lagom mini
Stay tuned!
Interesting concept! I like it has a small profile and doesn’t take up counter top space. What would be really interesting to see is the comparison of taste and extraction of using it as electric vs hand
Agreed! And great, I'll keep this in mind.
I want to know how the electric mode works for filter (because of the fines) and how the manual one works for espresso (if you want it on the go)
Will share more soon!
Great Start, can't wait for the second video. I am currently waiting on mine to arrive, you mention the catch cup is plastic, it should be metal with a Plastic Sleave. Does it really feel that plasticy?
Hm, didn’t realize this. I’ll take another look. It doesn’t feel bad
@@KyleRowsell phew, Hoping not, loving the fact you can use it straight into the portafilter tipped upside down instead of a dosing funnel. Eagerly awaiting mine as i'm currently using the VSSL Hand Grinder.
Yup, it's metal. But with plastic lining to avoid ground coffee to be left stuckinside the cup.
Hey Kyle, that's one hell of a teaser. Please compare it with the combination of C40 + Madkat Skope!
Is that an encore esp in the back??
I wish
As a fellow hat-wearer, I'd love to see another below horizon soft box :)

@@borcz100 right on! Wonderful grinder.
Took a look at the campaign and this looks really interesting. I just ordered the lagom mini, so I definitely need a comparison between the two, but this would also definitely suit my needs a ton! Also the B-roll looking nice!
First, thank you! And yes it’s an interesting grinder no doubt. Stoked to share more!
@@KyleRowsell Do you think you'll be getting one for yourself?
Is ot good enough to replace anything you currently use?
Just wondering.
If the Goat can excel as both a manual and electric grinder, that could put it on my ever growing wishlist 😂
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Shame they don't mention the step size for the grind setting. It's gotta beat 8.8 microns for me to consider it a contender.
Seems pretty specific, no?
I bought manual grinder only, and this plastic knob is awful, every time I grind coffee it feels like something really cheap :(
Nice and patiently impression. Can't wait to see the full review. However I would like you add J-Max to that rivalry review. Because this grinder offers very small burr gap between each step, and currently I've learned that the smallest burr gap among stepped hand grinder is J-Max (at least most popular)
Thanks for watching! And I’ll do what I can!
Does it have a power brick one with universal voltage like 110v-240v?
No it does not. You have to order which voltage you'd prefer while purchasing.
@@KyleRowsell that's too bad. It could have been a good paring with the Flair58
Yes finally!!
It's here!
Would love to see a comparison with the Turin SD40

I think it looks pretty damn Sweet
Agreed.
Please compare it to the manual grinders as well as electric ones in the second video.

It would be cool if the motor had rpm control
Yes! It would be a first at this price range
Love the B roll intro👌🏼
Thanks for watching Solomon!
@@KyleRowsell No problem! I personally really like the look of the grinder. Deffo waiting on a white version though haha
@@solomonsmith3658 can’t argue with that. White gear has a sweet spot in my heart ha
I highly recommend the grinder, there is a lot to like about it
This isn’t the review
I’d love to see this compared to the Lido OG, Niche, Remi, and Ode with SSP, but that’s because I want you to compare this to the grinders I have. :)
Noted! Ha. Can't promise all but I'll do what I can
I'm interested in the science behind the motor creating more fines.
Will keep this in mind.
Haha, also, did I spy the new Ember 6oz mug in the background?
@@brentc9013 you did 👀
It’s interesting how the home grinder market is exploding lately. Seems to be something new every few weeks.
It can feel that way for sure.
My guess is that it won't perform much better or better at all when compared to what is on the market already.
please compare to Lagom Mino
Will do!
Is that a chip in the paint on the container at around 2:37?
I don't see any paint chipped at that time
It looks nice but I feel like it solves a problem that doesn't quite exist for most people
I’d respectfully disagree! I get messaged daily about people wanting to upgrade their hand grinder because their tired of hand grinding. This fits a happy medium - best of both worlds!
@@KyleRowsell fair!
Great looking design but awfully LOUD. Sheesh.
To be honest, it’s not as bad in person
I don't hate the design but I thought it was a pipe at first XD
Hard pass on the design of the Arco. Maybe the second gen can make it look nicer. // Recently, I have been buying Trunk Coffee's beans. Since they are in Japan, they don't get a lot of play in the USA, but Trunk is doing some great stuff with their growers. Most recently, their "cultur-in" beans have been a game changer for me. By adding a starter to the soak, they get some really awesome flavors out of them.
Fair enough, and right on. Thanks for sharing friend!

Yeah it’s not the cheapest. But it does find itself cheaper the niche and oro. Will be keeping all of this in mind for the full review.
Just looked at their site. Seems overpriced for something that looks like PVC pipe. Likely a couple of the reasons why you're giving it away lol.
Aren't those burrs identical to J-MAX?
Similar
Bad quality grinder. The plastic parts will be broken when you use for few years . The engine sound was too loud. I was quite disappointed
Lost interest after hearing how loud and terrible it sounds :(
