- Looking to make a healthier-for-you meat snack, friends Pete Maldonado and Rashid Ali together put forth $6,500 to launch their "side hustle" back in 2012. After four years, Trader Joe's began selling their products and sales significantly grew. In 2023, Pete and Rashid's once side-hustle has brought in nearly $250 million in retail sales.

Chomps: How We Turned $6,500 Into A Business Bringing In $244 Million A Year
I like this series because it shows how US people will buy anything at any price. I watched the olive oil, the peanut butter and now this one. To sum up, packaging is the thing.
Can you post the link if the olive oil and peanut butter episode?
Correct. Not casually, all these stories are US based.
Kinda disagree. The olive oil one may be more about packaging. In this case, a lot of jerky and other meat snacks have a lot of sugar in them... I've personally noticed this when looking around. These guys are offering a healthier, still convenient, product and there are more health conscious people now looking for good snacks.
It's hard to get products without all the additives in the US. It's not the packaging, it's the ingredients.
Aswel as good marketing and good brand you really dont need a good product
It took me four years to discover that forecasting the market based on charts is pointless; you never know what will happen.I have a little over 250k i wanted to put in the markets but I don’t know what direction to head now. Any guidance in this regard would be much valued.
I'd suggest you discuss with a proper advisor, particularly if you're new at investing or facing uncertainty. I personally have over 180 companies in my portfolio, so if few companies fail, I still have others that can hold me up.
Many folks overlook the importance of advisors until their emotions cause them problems. I recall a few summers ago, after my lengthy divorce, I needed support to keep my business going. I searched for licensed advisors and found someone extremely qualified. She helped grow my reserve from $175K to $650K, despite inflation.
This is definitely worth considering! Do you have any recommendations for professionals or advisors I could speak with? I really need help with proper portfolio allocation.
Certainly, there are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with ‘’Judith Lynn Staufer” for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look her up.
I found her profile online and reviewed her credentials. She has a lot of relevant experience. Thanks for sharing her information! I've already sent her an email to get in touch.
Finding a partnership that works is almost as important than the product itself. Good for you guys!
It’s cool to see a genuine guy running the company I have searched Amazon before looking for healthy snacks and chomps was one of the top rated. CHOMPS is pricey but they are good and if they are healthy it is great because I don’t have to feel guilty eating them.
What’s interesting is that the competition was using added sugars when it wasn’t necessary probably partly because it is addicting so they did it for marketing purposes , but now with people looking out for their own health more and more they are losing to a competitor that is just selling pure meat sticks. chomps is able to sell at a higher price because its healthy and in todays market healthy is selling!
Chomps are absolutely terrible. They're the dries beef stick I have ever tried and the taste is dull.
It's genuinely like chewing on sand.
@@datownkidd... Where do you think all that flavor youre used to comes from?
@AVeryNormalGuy my point isn't about the flavor jmits about how dry they are. You chew chew chew but it's like chewing cardboard. On top of that they aren't even healthy.
@@datownkidd I'm developing an alike product (beef jerky sticks) which will be sold on my etsy store (for now). Sugars aren't an excuse indeed for a bad flavor. My sticks are VERY tasty and we don't add sugar
I enjoy your success story Chomps! That was surely cool but if I had $360k I would invest $100k in tech & $260k into dividend stock with a proven track record to grow with capital appreciation & dividend increase year over year
Adding JEPI and JEPQ are smart additions in my opinion. As for staying committed to higher-risk investments, it's all about balancing your risk tolerance with your long-term goals.
Exactly, a good number of people discredit the effectiveness of financial advisor, but over the past 10years, I’ve had a financial advisor consistently restructure and diversify my portfolio/expenses and I’ve made over $3million in gains… might not be a lot but i'm financially secure and that's fine by me.
Please who is the consultant that assist you with your investment and if you don't mind, how do I get in touch if you don't mind
There are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with “Rebecca Noblett Roberts” for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
She appears to be well-educated and well-read. I ran a Google search on her name and came across her website; thank you for sharing.
Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future.., I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life!!
Starting early is simply the best way of getting ahead to build wealth , investing remains a priority . I learnt from my last year's experience , I am able to build a suitable life because I invested early ahead this time .
Exactly ! That's my major concern and what lucrative investment can one venture into with the current rise in economic downturn
In fact, I had no prior experience or understanding when I began investing in 2018, but by the end of 2019, I had made a profit of almost $750k. All I had been doing was going by what my financial advisor had told me. This demonstrates that all you truly need is a professional to assist you; you don't even need to be a great investor or put in a lot of work.
*@disney-hefner* That does make a lot of sense, unlike us, you seem to have the Market figured out. Who is this consultant?
Gertrude Margaret Quinto is the licensed advisor I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
I've been eating Chomps for the past 4 years. Almost every day. While working at the office, traveling, and after workouts. By far the cleanest, healthiest, and most eco-friendly brand out there. The fact that the story of the founders of the company is this incredible is a huge add-on :)
You’re gonna get cancer dude
eco friendly??!!! Plastic packaging is for sure eco-friendly...is eating meat eco friendly??? Is Travelling meat from Tasmania eco-friendly....come on...
Plastic packaging is a necessary evil in the retail business. Just because a company uses plastic packaging doesn't mean they're not eco friendly. If that were the case you wouldn't eat anything with such an idealistic approach. Go to your pantry and see how many products use plastic.
Give us one replacement for plastic packaging that wouldn't damage the product. @@fontyfon
Eco friendly meat from acros the globe yup 👏
Just had one of these two days ago! Tasted like a side-hustle with potential.
I always buy these from costco. I love when businesses are successful that provide good quality products.
My buddy introduced these to me. As a diabetic. This is a great on the move snack.
What a fantastic story! I'm a huge fan of Shark Tank, I've seen every single episode, and many of the best presentations I've watched 3 and 4 times. I was imagining you presenting your product in your early years and hearing Kevin O'Leary and Barbara saying how great the product tasted, but their classic response would be the "snack meat market" was not THAT big and besides the "grab n' go" meat market is WAY too crowded, you'll never last."
O'Leary would probably have said, "great product, but your current sales are too wimpy, and sorry, Chomp will NEVER be a $20M or $30M company. My advice, take it out behind the barn and shoot it." You guys are smart, best to move on to another product."
I LOVE your tenacity, and your unshakable vision to go all the way to Tasmania to find the right meat for your high standards. I look forward to watching your growth and see you reach the billion dollar threshold someday soon.
Motivated to start my own food brand after this.
Best of wishes for your brand bro ;)
good luck
Chomps' strategic pivot to a cleaner, shelf-stable product is a fantastic example of how flexibility and responsiveness to consumer demands drive success in the food industry. This adaptability, combined with a commitment to quality ingredients, clearly sets them apart in a competitive market. 👍
Greener would be vegan chomps bro
@EcomCarl 😂your comment is chatGPT generated
I don’t really eat processed meat no matter what marketing they do. The story is inspiring tho.
No one cares
These guys are honest guys the fact their upfront and say multiple times how ethically and sustainability in mine and even on the site they have a bunch of points there one of the most honest brands ive seen out there
This was inspirational. Wishing Chomps all the best. If I see it in WholeFoods in UK, I'll definitely grab one.
There is a huge growth prospect if this takes off in the Middle East, for that, the meat needs to be Halal. This should definitely be in the pipeline in the near future.
Good luck Mr Maldonado and Mr Ali.
Rashid Ali and his kids are eating the non-halal chomps. I don’t think it’s gonna work out lol 😂
Shows you how easy it is to create a product you dont need any fancy idea you just need a good brand with good packaging and good marketing that is all you need to create a product
Love this story! Very well told and put together edit here :)
“I don’t always eat meat snacks but when I do I prefer Chomps”

@@cvass9381😂😂😂
I don't always eat a meat snack but when I do I chomps
rashid ali is muslim ? he can eat beef
Meat is bad for your sexual balance and for controlling your anger
My Costco in Austin always has Chomps and they are my favorite high protein snack!
Aah yes the paid comment 😂😂😂
@@yanooo2007 I wish I got paid for that comment! Lol
@@yanooo2007 why do you assume it's paid just becaause someone buys them at costco and likes them? I also buy them. They are a bit pricey, but don't have the sugar like other beef jerkies do and are a nice healthy snack.
The turkey is my favorite. Every-time I go into Trader Joe’s, I must grab one.
Same!
First time hearing about chomps, now i want some
They are worth the hype man. Trader Joes has them and that's where I discovered them.
Crypto is risky as many would say but I think the actual risk in Crypto is not investing, buying the capitulation isn't a tough call, but it is a very tough call to figure out what to do aside holding. I remember when I just got into crypto back in 2019 but later in 2020 I ended up selling it because I was dumb and I didn't understand it. I studied and learned and now I know how it works. Got back into crypto early in 2023 with 10k and I’m up with 128k in a short period of time
I'm new to cryptocurrency and don't understand how it really works. how Can someone know the right approach to investing and making good profits from cryptocurrency investments?
As a beginner investor, it’s essential for you to have a mentor to keep you accountable. Myself, I’m guided by Coach Alex. A widely known crypto consultant
I'm surprised that this name is being mentioned here, I stumbled upon one of his clients testimonies on CNBC news last week...
I started working with Coach Alex back in June, and my financial goals have never been clearer. It’s like having a strategic partner for my money with a solid track record.
I'm a beginner please how can i reach out Coach Alex
“I love chomping on meat sticks,” sounds like a great marketing slogan.
i hope when they provide us this kind of product i hope they also show how the cow has been raised located taken care of and killed. just spread all the facts that contribute to this taste. i myself neither vegan nor vegetarian. but i think these sorts of info should be entrenched in the documentary.
the packaging also you guys should also highlight on this.
The only ingredient I don't like is the encapsulated lactic acid. I believe the encapsulation is made of maltodextrin or hydrogenated oil. Besides that, we like the higher quality beef used.
I will be forever grateful to you, you changed my entire life and I will continue to preach on your behalf for the whole world to hear you saved me from huge financial debt with just a small investment, thank you Carla Koren.
I'm surprised that you just mentioned Carla Koren here. I met her at a conference in 2018 and we have been working together ever since.
The very first time we tried, we invested $1400 and after a week, we received $5230. That really helped us a lot to pay up our bills.
I'm new at this, please how can I reach her?
You trade with Carla Koren too? Wow that woman has been a blessing to me and my family.
Initially I was skeptical, until I decided to try. It’s huge returns is awesome! I can’t say much.
I saw these at Aldi yesterday. The irony of me watching this video rn. Next time I go I'll definitely add a few to my cart.
I tried the turkey @ Trader Joes out of curiosity. Ended up buying an entire box every time I went after!
While the founders’ initial $6,500 investment was crucial, Chomps’ evolution into a $250 million company was facilitated by strategic partnerships and significant external funding. The simplified narrative may overlook these critical aspects of their growth journey.
This is awesome, I never had a ton of interest in it but I’m definitely going to try it now
First heard of Chomps on Thomas Delauer’s RUclips channel. Tried their product and been a fan ever since. Their Venison sticks are the sh#t.
The packaging and stuff kind of looks like dog treats 😂
😂😂😂 they taste like it too 😂😂
When I get to Albuquerque NM... I will go to Trader Joes... and buy your Beef Sticks.
Cheers to Pete and Rashid for not just riding the trend wave but creating their own with Chomps! 🎉👏
Great determination and an amazing product.
They are based in Florida which has year round grass fed beef in large enough quantities. Australia is cheaper not higher quality.
Another great video CNBC. it’s awesome to see peoples ideas and dreams come true especially starting with such a small outlay but a lot of commitment.
Awww i was actually thinking of starting this type of business. I guess I'm too late.
Wow! it's crazy to me this got so big. Good for them. But I can't imagine spending $2.50 on a stick with 90 calories at 9g of protein. When you can buy whey isolate and get nearly 100g of protein for $2.50 worth.
they are just good when you don't have time to make a shake and just want to grab one and go.
Wow, what a great story of the American dream. I can't wait to try this product out. Sending more success and good fortune your way!
I'm all for ethical sourcing, but Tasmania for grass-fed beef? 🌍 That's commitment!
trader joes still sells these at 1.99, so awesome
I buy these at costco because not only are they good, their healthy. Big companies better catch on because consumers like me are putting their foot down on this low quality food.
Did that dude just say" I've always had a LOVE FOR MEAT STICKS!" Yes....I know I'm childish but can't help it on this one.
What is the date when all meat sticks will not be sold out and ready for purchase restocked or is their transition in the company? Thanks ,Bernadette Bondoch
My portfolio for the past 30 years has always been self managed and I own 3 shares of Berkshire Hathaway Class A stock (BRK:A) which I bought in at about $17,000 during the mid 90s, I’m currently liquidating some of these positions to incoporate new Gen. Stocks, but am I better off re-investing into Gold as it seems stocks are a little too unstable right now.
Invest in real estate, ETfs and high-yield savings account.
Just buy Gold and protect your assets, the stock market is a rollercoaster.
The market is not necessarily a rollercoaster if you know your way around the market, there are various opportunities in the present market to accrue good profit, If you are not too savvy with the market, just buy and hold on strong companies with good earnings, or consult with advisors on Etfs and actively managed funds. I am up by 418% in 1 year under guidance.
how do I get one and interview them? Considering your point I won’t want to get into a bubble. Can you recommend any?
Cheers man. Beautiful looking lady. Hopefully she has my time. I wrote her then set up a call.
Thanks for the great product!
Thanks for the update.

Woooah chopping them up and putting it on pizza?!?!! I’ve never thought of that but I will be trying it
I’ve been buying archers but going to pick up some chomps after watching this.
Maybe I missed it but have these sold anywhere other than Trader Joe’s or Costco? I’ve never heard of them in spite of their success, but also I don’t shop at either of those establishments.
All preserved meat have undergone several processes to keep them fresh for one year, which could induce cancer
I LOOOOVE chomps!! Buy them in bulk at Costco.
Was walking in naples to go eat and looked next door and boom, chomps head quarters!
Never heard of it is it at stop and shop? I want to try
Already planning how to use my points from 4ra loving this season so much
I never tried Chomps because I live in Europe but I do love meat snacks.
Always having a love for meat sticks is wild
Can't wait when you start shipping to Eu mark ups are crazy.
They put sugar in them! I had one the other day and was frustrated when I turned it around to see sugar as an ingredient
I literally just had a Slim Jim and this pops up.
Great motivation for food brands. Chomps are also great!
My kids love chomps!!
I LOVE THESE SNACKS!!!!
Can't wait to try this : )
Aah yes another paid comment
@@yanooo2007 LOL Every thing's a conspiracy I guess
I love your brand and purchase the yellow turkey stick in literal droves. Yes. I first saw you at Trader Joe's. Guilty as charged.
I would love a salmon and a chicken stick, please. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Very inspirational story.
Inspiring for sure
how is this inspiring dude? this content is kind of crap actually is this paid comment?
Inspiring!
Pure marketing there is absolutely healthy about this sticks …
6:51 19 girls / 9 guys in that company group shot 🥵
Does it have to be refrigerated? Or dry
Always had a love for meat sticks... pause 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Uhh I don't think 6500 goes into the fact they had to travel to Australia among other places around the world to find a farm lol
Thought about that also
Gotta love the IPL REWARDS PLATFORM at 4ra makes every cricket match thrilling
Ive been a fan for years and now that I see the founders and their backstory Im an even bigger fan! These have been so clutch in my life especially on my travels!
That push up at 1:45 really isn't personal trainer's like
they are so good - and are so much better for you
If they are sourced from Tasmania, sell them in Australia then? Aussie here
They probably aren't actually sourced from Tasmania. To do so would be ridiculous from a price perspective and wholly unnecessary given the vast cattle ranches right there in the USA.
I always buy these at Walmart 😋 it’s worth my health investment compare to other jerky meat snacks ….. I am super picky when it comes for quality snacks 😎. Better to eat quality expensive food rather pay visit to doctor that won’t help you anyway.
so you really belive this is a healthy snack lol
Great story and great founders
Very good!
Chomps is my fav!
Yeah, they were mine as well until I saw the expansion to hire staff part at 06:51 and saw not one black employee on their staff of over 30 people.
@@Ruffedges that’s very unfortunate. I didn’t realize that when I watched the video until you highlighted it
"I've always had a love for meat sticks." I'm freakin' cryin'...I ran to the comment section to see if I was the only one.
Love chomps!
Amazing story. Seem like 2 nice dudes.
I need to find this snack o.o

Its not a idea 😮 you just package it different 😮
CONGRATS GUYS !!! MAKING AN EXISTING PRODUCT HEALTHIER.. SLIM JIM 😏
serious question.. do the cows travel to the U.S. dead or alive?
Who knew earning points while watching IPL could be this cool thanks 4rabat
Bro reinvented bifi
Quite absurd they thought they couldn't find grass fed cows in the U.S.
"We took your money knowing full well we didn't have the product on hand to supply you with. Do you want that back uWu?" Absolute scummy business practice.
How can I secure the same ? Enlighten me
I have a product in mind but i dont how can i hire a food tech to make my product -anyobe here can refer me to ?its a candy
I don't know much about this brand but if the products don't go bad in a week or less it's still not that good for you technically. Additionally, most of these meats tend to have too much sodium in them and I suspect this is no different on the salt department
What does it taste like?
Love hearing this story! Now I have to try it!
