A walk through the Chinese Garden of Friendship, Sydney, July 2024

This beautiful traditional Chinese garden sits near the centre of the Sydney CBD, largely surrounded by tall office buildings, hotels and the Darling Harbour Exhibition and Convention Centres. Despite this urban location it is a peaceful sanctuary for Sydneysiders and visitors alike, a haven of stunning scenery and meditative calm.
The garden was a gift to Sydney in 1988 as part of Australia's bicentennial celebrations from the Chinese city of Guangzhou, and in particular to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the New South Wales-Guangdong sister state relationship.
Take a wander through pavilions, bamboo groves, and forests, sit by waterfalls, lily ponds and koi-filled streams, and walk by the beautiful lake with its ornamental trees and rocks.
