  • In spite of a lung infection that caused him to lose training time, Ronald Winchell's Tapit rallied powerfully in the stretch to get up in the closing yards of the $750,000 Wood Memorial (gr. I) at Aqueduct Saturday.
Ridden by Ramon Dominguez, Tapit, trained by Michael Dickinson, came from last place in the field of 11 to nip Master David and Eddington, who battled to the wire in a thrilling finish. The final time was 1:49 3/5.
Tapit ran sixth in the Florida Derby (gr. I) in his last start on March 13, and Dickinson said the gray son of Pulpit --Tap Your Heels (by Unbridled) "wasn't in peak condition" after leaving Florida with a significant lung infection. He didn't have his first published workout until April 5.
"Believe me, I am as surprised as anyone," Dickinson said. "He came out of Florida with a fairly significant lung infection. He only recovered a few days ago. He was not in peak health or in great condition. I would have been happy with a good third or even a fourth."

Happy 20th Tapit! And you sired 2 Kentucky Derby prep winners in one day with Essential Quality and Greatest Honour, both favorites. It's looking good for you this year as a daddy to win the Derby finally!

Lovely video content! Forgive me for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Riddleagan Punting Profit Remedy (just google it)? It is a great one off product for learning how to get rich on the horse racing minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my cousin at very last got excellent results with it.

I would like to thank Tapit for all the excitement he has given me over the years watching his bloodline win races and me money. I’ll never forget the day I looked him in the eyes at Delaware Park I nearly ran to the window to unload my pocket on him I just knew he was special! Thanks 🙏 Tapit for the good times!!

He was...Michael Dickinson was his Trainer. My wife worked for Michael during that time and I spent a lot of time at the barn on my days off. Tapit is as unique as they come...but he absolutely hated the mud and I am pretty certain that had the 2004 Kentucky Derby been run on a dry track he would have won. The press day, which my wife organized, at Tapeta Farm prior to the Derby was insane...there were so many people and cameras. They were all there to take photos, film, interview Michael and Ramon and most importantly, watch Tapit breeze. Prior to the work out, there were some early arrival Press folks in the barn. They were filming and taking pictures of the first of two greys that Michael had in the barn. I informed them that that wasn't Tapit and they were filming Pay the Preacher...and that Tapit was several stalls down. Crazy day...I will never forget it and I am grateful that I was able to see a little slice of the Sports World that most people do not.
