Just a note to appreciate the effort made by a native Dutch speaker and a native German speaker to converse in English for the sake of those of us not competent to follow in either language.
@@davidanderson3425 Indeed, I have French and German to O Level standard, but that was forty years ago. Curiously, both my brother and sister speak Dutch, but I don't.
This was amazing. I expected him to pull out a sport, lilliput, and some random special edition so I was really interested to see how this CEO isn't just a kaweko CEO but a real FP enthusiast. What an amazing and broad interest in pens! I loved the story about his wife complaining he's spending more on pens than he's bringing in... Can relate :)
A really enjoyable interview. His passion is very evident and I think that I'll be adding a Kaweco to my collection soon. Thank you for these. Always an enjoyable experience to watch.
This has been my favorite episode yet! So excited when I saw the first pen - I found a very similar pocket pen made by the Morrison company in the 1920’s. Even has a Small gold link at the top to be worn as a necklace. It’s just lovely! Mr. Gutburlet’s whole face just twinkles when he talks about his pen treasures - and how refreshing that there is no talk of how much it’s worth, or how much he will resell it for. Collecting at it’s purest. Bravo, sir! AND, I LOVE the dog pen holder! Excellent!
What a delight! I was not much of a Kaweco fan until I visited the factory store a few years ago. They were charming and it was wonderful to see more about the history of the brand. Thank you for this.
Another standout in the wonderful Top 3 Pens series. Mr. Gutberlet is intelligent and charming and has some great stories to tell about his pen collection. I recently purchased my fifth Kaweco Sport--distinctive from the others as it features a guilloche pattern--and I will now think of Mr. Gutberlet whenever I use it. I would love to see more of his collection.
Fascinating and charming. The mind of a collector who also has a creative mind. I particularly liked the comment about spending more one month than you make. Who needs food, right! I have never moved to the $1,000 range, but I keep an Arco model in my “watching” list, always fearing that I will reach for he elusive and spend more than I make in a month (beyond food and rent anyway). Only the curious really ever create, and Mr. Gutberlet is a marvelous example.
This was a truly refreshing top 3 pens! This gentleman’s love and admiration for writing instruments came through and jumped out of the screen! Quite touching really! I think people who are truly passionate about pens can pick up on this trait in others, kindred spirits if you will. Your on fire, Joost!! Please, keep them coming!! And thank you very much for this wonderful series :-)
I loved the stories of what he had to say. That was amazing that he was gifted the pen from someone when the owner knew that he really had a passion for the pens. A really great interview!!
This is wonderful. We got an incredible insight in a private collection as well as history instead of brand advertising. This is how it should be done! Thanks a lot for this episode!
I just got my first Kawecos to try them out, and I really like them for my office where they might get dropped etc. I keep the big guns at home. But it is nice to know the CEO was a hobbyist before he joined the Company.
You can have the very best of fountain pens. But what matters is how good is your handwriting and what you write. I mean your thoughts, your imagination, your precision in what you write. I have so many pens but my most precious is my Dad’s Sheaffer fountain pen with a gold nib which my dad bought in 1961. The pen’s body had deteriorated and so I got the nib fitted in to an antique Sheaffer pen and still I write with it. Whenever I write with that nib I get goosebumps and thoughts of my dad flood my heart.
“Your spend on pens is more than your income” - Early warning for aspiring pen collectors ! One of the other warnings is “Pen collection May lead to bankruptcy!” 😉
I have often thought that every pen comes with a writer, that a writer is an interesting person, that by extension, every pen is interesting, because it's an entree for meeting the writer. I have talked for an hour with a person I just met over a pen. I've been around pens so long they never surprise me and although they are generally interesting, the owners are very much more so.
Thank you so much for this video!! This was very interesting and the tiny doll pen is fantastic! Wow, I never imagined a fountain pen of that size! 😍 I enjoyed very much the interview. It was so nice to hear his stories and he seems so passionate and enthusiastic about the hobby. It was wonderful to hear him.
Great video. Many times children or grandchildren do not know how to value the collections of their parents and the love they put into writing with this fountain pen. Anyway .... Greetings
Herr Gutberlet is a charming individual, Joost - but then I need not really emphasise that. This gentleman - & from his own personal collectrion, helped me to repair & replace parts from my 1950's V12 Sport; that he did so, demonstrates his complete passion for the writing instrument, so I shall always be grateful to him for that kindness & generosity of spirit. Whenevr I ink up that Sport model, I think of him; in these somewhat difficult times, it is heartening to know that such altruistic, unconditional sincerity is alive & kicking. Fascinating trio of scribes !! On a footnote, can you tell me what that last Kaweco model is, please ? Thanks to you both, Joost & Michael, Kindest regards, Andrew 🙂
I have pens ranging from a 1912 Conklin Crescent Filler up to a Namiki Maki-e Emperor, but one of my very favorite pens, one I use more often than any other single pen, is the Kaweco Brass Sport with a gold nib. It is, for me, as close to a perfect poen as I've ever used, and it really was love at first write.
While you're there, right in fron of the commander in chief, you might want to tell him to consider....CHANGING HIS NIB SUPPLIER..... (Bock)... kick bock to the CURB !!
So Kaweco is headed by this amazing guy with so much knowledge and awareness of so many designs, but make pens with a handful of standard designs and nails as nibs. Such a lost opportunity.
Just a note to appreciate the effort made by a native Dutch speaker and a native German speaker to converse in English for the sake of those of us not competent to follow in either language.
I agree. I feel fortunate because I cannot speak any other language except English.
@@davidanderson3425 Indeed, I have French and German to O Level standard, but that was forty years ago. Curiously, both my brother and sister speak Dutch, but I don't.
But they both don’t know fluent German or Dutch? Correct me if I have the wrong assumption on this. That’s one reason for speaking in English.
I agree

This is An amazing video! If only it could be longer ‼️❤
What a wonderful video. The interview format was so interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Thank you Appleboom for a very special 'Top 3 Pens' video. I really enjoyed listening to Michael Gutberlet.
Our pleasure!
A really enjoyable interview. His passion is very evident and I think that I'll be adding a Kaweco to my collection soon. Thank you for these. Always an enjoyable experience to watch.
So pleased you enjoyed!
This one is one of best top3 pens series. I am amazed with gentleman’s passion to fountain pens.
What a great interview, thanks.
Thank you for watching!

Lovely video. Michael has a very good sense of humor and has a collection of precious pens.
The pens are amazing! The people we meet in this series are fascinating!

Two minutes in and the CEO is already smiling and laughing when talking about his fountain pens. What a wonderful, warm character!
Simply the best in the series of videos. The interview format is a lot more enjoyable. Thanks
We think so too :)
MY FAVORITE PEN COMPANY -Massive fan!!!
I loved the stories of what he had to say. That was amazing that he was gifted the pen from someone when the owner knew that he really had a passion for the pens. A really great interview!!
Glad you enjoyed it
What a great conversation. I'd love to hear more from Michael. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Mr. Gutberlet is awesome!
It is great to know that the CEO of a company has also passion for the products they sell. The bad thing is that now I need to buy another Kaweco.
This is wonderful. We got an incredible insight in a private collection as well as history instead of brand advertising. This is how it should be done! Thanks a lot for this episode!
Awesome video. Great personality.
One of the most interesting top three yet!
I just got my first Kawecos to try them out, and I really like them for my office where they might get dropped etc. I keep the big guns at home. But it is nice to know the CEO was a hobbyist before he joined the Company.
This is a wonderful video, thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Absolutely love Kaweco pens, thank you for this amazing interview
Thank you for this video!
Most welcome :)
I love the comment from his wife. Been there, done that.
Very precious video I would say!
So refreshing to see a company CEO not come on and shill their own pens
Really nice video! Thank you
Our pleasure!

Loved watching this video! He has an interesting way of telling his stories. Thank you, Joost!
Very nice , Thank you

Wise words!

Thanks. I follow the top three pens series and this was one of the most touching.
Glad you enjoyed it!
He seems like a down to earth nice guy. Good vid, thanks.
Fascinating.

Great video
Would appreciate some close ups of the pens next time please.
Wow! Cool!
Hahaha, I've just noticed that Mr. Gutberlet has Kaweco branded glasses frames.
Great video. Many times children or grandchildren do not know how to value the collections of their parents and the love they put into writing with this fountain pen. Anyway .... Greetings

Love my collection of Kawecos, just wish we Had a Shop nearby so I do not need to buy online All the time.. its a wonderful Brand ❤❤❤👍
Can I like this video more than once?

The Kaweco fountain pens are very realiable and the Sport has a very useful size. Enjoy your collection!
Great !
What's the name of that big pen? The second time that came out
Great story. I’m so happy Kawaco is such a popular pen company, but I really dislike these little pens.
anyone know the name of of the last pen?
It is the Kaweco button filler, no. 884, black ebonite
🤓👍
I loved everything about this video, except that it sounds like the interview has been conducted in a Church :D
Interesting the ceo pronounces it “Kawayco” instead of the “kavayco” I hear.
Most likely he knows how to say it!
While you're there, right in fron of the commander in chief, you might want to tell him to consider....CHANGING HIS NIB SUPPLIER..... (Bock)... kick bock to the CURB !!
Kaweco make Plastic Pen in India
Like Parker
So Kaweco is headed by this amazing guy with so much knowledge and awareness of so many designs, but make pens with a handful of standard designs and nails as nibs. Such a lost opportunity.
the same bloke who stole the moonman trademark after the EU patent office refused to see anything unique in the Kaweco sport. BIG DISLIKE.
