SALT LAKE CITY- Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham is in for a big pay raise (and a new contract) after the Rose Bowl success of his 2021 football team. The new contract still goes through 2027, but increases his pay to $6 million in the 2022 season and up to $8 million to the end of the original contract
Honestly, i would take Kyle Whittingham at Ohio State. That's the team I'm a fan of and Kyle is tough as nails. Imagine his toughness at Ohio State who used to be known for being tough.
Couple of factors on Whittingham. He is probably on his last year or three as HC(?). He likes living in Utah, and one big reason is his religious affiliation. He drives an old pick-up truck by choice. Money is not necessarily the prime motivator for him ... particularly at this point in his life. He knows the day he steps down they will put up his statue and possibly name the field after him. I can't see him going anywhere - other than hanging up the whistle in next 2-3 years.
I won't say underated that's not an accurate description. I believe Mark Stoops makes more and has less success but then again Stoops is at Kentucky, Whit is at Utah--maybe the cream rises to the top now that Utah is in the big 10 we'll see.
