  • In 2007, Tiki Farm (a cool tiki mug company) made 500 mugs to help fund a renovation of the massive & colossal 22' tall fireplace rescued from the legendary Kahiki tiki bar/restaurant (Columbus, OH) torn down in 2000 to make room for a... a... I can't even type it. It's just too horrible.
Six years have rolled by, and everyone interested in tiki culture (likely including very few of my subscribers, who might be more into my synth/keyboard videos!) must surely be interested in whatever the hell happened to that fireplace. My friend Greg "Tiki" Waschak, who helped design the mug, and I decided to take a road trip to its purported whereabouts and find that out for ourselves. The renovation fund still sits idle in its account, so we feared the worst...

I spent a lot of nights there for supper and drinks. Had a brown tiki mug from around 1972 until last year , when my house was struck by lightning and set ablaze. The mug survived the fire, but has since disappeared! I miss that guy!!!!

How I miss the Kahiki...God rest its soul! Curse the Walgreens that sits on its gravesite! Curse the nasty frozen food line that bastardizes its name!

Nice adventure! Too bad it didn't have a better ending, but maybe in part 2? Felt like I was watching a marble hornets episode for a few moments in the middle!
