Cairn brought me to your channel. I love your voice, your editing and really excited to see what this channel creates in the future. Since the beginning of my GM career, I've only ran indie games. Hopefully this channel will invite subscribers to play in your guys' games. I really want to try Cairn, but Blades in the Dark was really fun when I last played it years ago. ;) Great stuff!
found you from your cairn video hope to see you channel grow, your stuff is really high quality so u deserve a lot more subs looking forward to watch more of your stuff :D
Neat. I've been playing since Moldvay. First games were during recess, on the playground. Our dice took a hellish beating. I've played just about every system and setting since then except Pathfinder, which I've always seen as more of a war game with all it's crunch. My spicy opinion on crunchy rules: "Crunch is just a crutch for those who can't Envision The Scene or think abstractly." I used to live by every written word in a game book and the more the better. It got so bad that I realized I was just playing abstract miniatures combat game. Now on to Solo Gaming... Many of my early games, unawares to me, were all a set up for solo, oracle driven gaming. Most times it was just me, the DM, and one player. I would get comments from my classmates/friends that when I ran a game, it really felt like I was their ally and not some 'Killer Dungeon Master' sadistically putting their character through torture. Here's another free-bee: "The trick is to set up the player to put themselves on that path but also enable them to find a solution away from it. " What would happen most often is that I wouldn't have a solution planned and most times after the 'Hook' there was no idea of where the adventure would go. I would literally pick 2 or 3 possibilities and roll a d6 to see which was happening. Combined with solo delving with the AD&D DMG and playing through so many Lone Wolf and Tunnels and Trolls game books, I found out that this game is best played cooperatively with a pure wander off and see what happens mentality. You know, a Sandbox. Well, at least that's my two cents; spend them as you will. I think solo gaming is something a RPGer should try and get comfortable with. I'd like to see your channel explore more cooperative, GMless gaming styles and stytems. Maybe not Mythic...that's crunchy.
I don't think D&D 5E is gonzo, it is way too generic for that. Regarding sandbox gaming, that was the mode I was running my games about 15 years ago (when you started it seems). And I sure love proactive players, but in the end sandbox is too meaningless, too shallow for my taste. Thus I moved on and run my game still very much character driven but not really in sandbox manner, but more based on a thematic premise, and overall I feel like it makes for a much more memorable experience than sandboxes can.
I think a sandbox setting can work rather nicely for players and Dms who work together and vibe well. I've had a few really good groups and we still talk about strong memories from sandbox-like campaign settings. Sometimes moments can feel even cooler when you know the GM hasn't necessarily planned any particular way the story will unfold. I have also had great experiences with narrative focused games, so im not really picking a side. Both are fun in their own contexts!
@@zaqsiefert5508 Sure, it can happen that one gets memorable moments out of sandbox gaming, but those are usually coincidental, and I like to have them on a more regular basis. I would not call my style narrative, but more expressionistic, since the narrative is also something that just happens and is not pre-planned in my style.
Writing a comment to boost your engagement 😁
Replying to your comment to further boosting engagement🤯🤯
Replying to your comment cause I'm a sheep with no thought or will of my own. Also i poop in pellet form.

Really appreciate your channel man, you've won me over!
There are so many good games and the more people talking about them the better! Good work man!

I misunderstood and thought this was about how to play a Sandbox campaign
That may be a future video, but yes this one is more explaining the channel
Oh wow I don't think I have been on a channel so new that I was here before the "what is this channel about" video. 😄
I'd like to suggest a video "Milestone leveling is railroading".
Agree? Disagree?
