I mean, Mother Gothel was good, but if they made movies about "Rumpelstiltskin", "Hansel and Gretel", and (although I know it probably won't happen) a proper retelling "Puss in Boots", they'd have a LOT to work with! First one, they'd have the man himself as a sly trickster and devil-like deal maker, second one, they could have an insane, but grandmotherly and strangely adorable witch, and the last one would allow the most creative freedom, as you could either go for a shapeshifting OGRE or a shapeshifting monster in general with an INSANE amount of power and maybe a little bit of an evil god complex who hoards treasure, destroys just about anything they come across, and kidnaps people to eat them later (or just for fun). To me at least, that would be awesome!

Taka/scars mother loved him dearly but his dad really only cared for Mufasa (I believe this is true but I'm not sure) Edit: because people say scars and Mufasa's mother is dearly loving and caring and is an amazing lioness/mother
I love hans conried! He was a great captain hook. I loved this video, but I believe the reason they kept hook alive was because he knew the audience was going to get attached to him, and didnt want him to die in the end. An animator working on the film recalls Walt Disney giving that final say on the project.
And getting eaten by wolfs is to agresive but eaten by hyenas isnt?and i wished scar woumd have gotten burned it would have shown like him going to hell:(
To the fact that Belle was supposed to have sisters: I can actually understand that because that's actually been in many different versions of the story over the years. In one of my favorite versions, a short chapter story titled, respectively, "Belle" in a collection of re-told fairy tales called "Kissed," Belle does have two older sisters and was always so jealous of them because even though her name meant beauty, everyone who met the three sisters made it clear that Belle was the ugliest of the three. Not only that, but Belle took more after her father with her interests while her sisters were more into girly things. If they had kept the sisters in the movie, the story might've been much like "Belle," a tale of learning to love who yourself as well as others regardless of looks and how beauty is more than skin deep. (Whereas the movie was part that but, Belle has more confidence in herself and all she wants is a life of adventure in an unknown place.) However, I can see the same story that became the movie we know and love with the addition of two older sisters. However, I imagine it similar to Cinderella and the evil stepsisters (only Belle's sisters would be nicer, I would hope) with the older sisters gossiping and bragging about all the guys they've gone out with whilst continuing to ask Belle why she hasn't courted any of the eligible men in the village (namely Gaston because I also imagine them to be airheads like the three blondes that fawn over him in the beginning of the movie).
Up until Scar says "You won't get a sniff without me!" it was sung by Jeremy Irons, the voice of Scar. Jeremy throughout his voice when he said that line, so Jim finished the song. If you listen closely, you can hear the difference.
Fun fact: Gaston’s original death was supposed to be that he survived his fall, but got a broken leg. He stumbled upon a wolf pack and lets just say, the hunter becomes the hunted and Gaston came out as wolf chow. It was deemed too dark so he got the traditional Disney villain fall, but this would later be reused as Scar’s death but with hyenas instead.
It's meant to symbolise the children's wish to never to never grow up which is why the dad is always captain hook the guy boy who never grew up is always fighting
Fun fact: in several cultures, sickly and weaker newborns would be given names that mean unkind things (i.e. Taka meaning "trash") to help keep the spirits from taking the children before their time. My guess is that Scar/Taka was born sickly and weak, and Adahi and Uru named him a name that meant "trash" to keep him alive.
Not to mention Hercules' birth, which has him being a full god in the movie from the start instead of the product of one of Zeus's many MANY infidelities with a mortal woman which leads to Hera hating him, as is the actual mythical truth (shut up, I know how that sounds). I guess that version of the tale wouldn't jibe with Disney's family-friendly aesthetic
The original Greek Mythology was too gruesome for family friendly entertainment so they took some liberties with it. Much like with Pocahontas and its historical inaccuracies, I treat both movies like some alternative universes and watch it with a fun open mind.
@@lilsisasu yes the Greek name is actually Heracles, Hercules is his Roman name. I do like what they did with the snakes send by Hera though. Pain and Panic are some interesting characters though I can't think of who in mythology pain is supposed to be. Panic is Pan, God of the wild I think but pain, I can't put my finger on It.
Honorable Mention #1 : Actually, I think a lot of people already knew that fact. Jeremy Irons sang the entire first verse of the song, and Jim Cummings sang the final verse after Irons' voice gave out.
I didn't know about the animated Peter Pan but in the live action adaption from 2003 the same actor plays Hook & Mr Darling. Love that they kept that tradition going!
Scar's father was the one that thought that he was a waste and was the one that gave him the scar. Mufasa was their father's favorite. The mother was actually the only parent that loved and cared for scar.
7:45 - Tuberculosis? Now that's just sad! I feel bad for the poor woman! 8:42 - In the original Beauty and the Beast fairy tale, beauty had two older sisters and was in a somewhat Cinderella-like poisition in her father's house.
According to Disney Mother Gothel didn't fall to her death, but died of old age. We see her turning into dust as she falls, but only her cape is left, no body.
Fun fact: As you now know, James Hook and George Darling were voiced by the same actor. In 2003 action version of "Peter Pan", Jason Isaacs, also played as both of the characters. LOL coincidence
Mother Gothel's death does make more sense; she's a centuries'-old woman literally living on stolen time! Gotta love those actors and actresses giving their all for the parts! ^^
Afterall, Disney Villains deserve all the credit they do-even much more-kuz they really reflect Walt Disney's genius. Without them, the fairytales wudn't have been so interesting. Without evil to emphasize the value of good, good wudn't have been so desirable. + face it; villains are much more majectic and enigmatic than heroes. They represent all the beauty of Disney's very own fairytales. I'm sure modern-day Disney animators wudn't have been able, even with all their modern technologies, to create that whole atmosphere and feeling of the three of his greatest fairytales; 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', 'Cinderella' and 'Sleeping Beauty'. It's truly the end of an era...the era of WALT DISNEY...the end of the fairytales of Disney. Fairytales that celebrated Walt Disney's genius...his expertise as the king of animation!!!
My favorite Fun Fact most don't know about a Disney Villain? The Actress who played the Wicked Queen Grimhilde from Snow White (Lucille La Verne) did multiple takes to try to make her voice different from the Queen when she transformed into her Crone disguise but the recording directors felt -SOMETHING- was missing from the performance. While they discussed it Lucille left the room for a time and when she returned she asked to try the lines again, and THIS time they just "clicked". When they asked her what she did to find that missing quality she confessed that she just removed her false teeth. Sometimes the simplest solution was the best.
It's interesting to note that Cruella would've returned as the villain for The Rescuers after failing to get her Dalmatian coat, but I guess the animators didn't want it to feel like a continuation to 101 Dalmatians. Then again Madam Medusa did retain Cruella's bad driving habit.
I saw somewhere where Maleficent orginally had no ill will towards the kingdom, sure she didnt like that other fairies, but the only reason she cursed the baby, cause because the other fairy said she wasnt welcomed and that offended her. Cause you know a royal baby was to be celebrated by everyone in the land. So if the good fairy hadnt said anything, she might of given teh baby a good gift instead.
Well, I see the Maleficent movie as more of an AU of Sleeping Beauty. I don't think it's really canon, and besides, what good person would curse an innocent baby just because they weren't invited to the christening? Like bitch I never get invitations either but you don't see me cursing nobody
Stuart Spiker There are many different versions. In the one I remember from childhood, the evil fairy was unnamed (but was a fairy) who was essentially insulted due to an oversite (There were 13 fairies in the realm whom were invited to the christening but place settings, of gold and jewels, were only made for 12. At the last moment a 13th set was made of silver rather than gold which was seen as an insult)
Fun fact, in the film it might be "Magic mirror on the wall..." but in Germany / german language where the fairytale originates from, we say "Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand..." which means "Mirror, mirror on the wall...". "Spieglein is a trivialised version of the word "Spiegel" (mirror). :)
Here's a fun fact. The late Tony Jay voiced Monsieur Darque in Beauty And The Beast, and Frollo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The former didn't have the same amount of screentime, a villain song or even a comeuppance like the latter did. And speaking of Frollo, both he and Mother Gothel had some similarities but major differences. Both are old, but Gothel was much olderFrollo killed Quasimodo's mother and was about to kill him as well until the archdeacon intervened and convinced Frollo to raise him like his own. Gothel just stole Rapunzel from her parents, the king and queen, to used the power in her hair to keep herself young. Both raised them into adulthood, lying to them that the world was evil. In the end, after Quasimodo and Rapunzel learned the truth, they turned against them. During the final battle, Frollo fell to his death, but after Eugene cut Rapunzel's hair, which caused Gothel to age her, Gothel was so horrified by her appearance that she tumbled out of the tower, but she turned to dust before she hit the ground, leaving only her cloak. None of either's remains were left behind, much like Maleficent.
Thing about Hades is, he usually wasn't the one causing all the problems. It was usually Zeus himself or Poseidon. Poor guy gets such a bad rap for just doing his job.
And the people he punished actually deserved it. Orpheus was punished because he disobeyed Hades' order not to look back and Theseus and the other guy (whose name evades me atm) were punished for trying to kidnap Persephone.
It makes sense with Mr Darling and Hook. There's also a theory that the psychology behind that is the children seeing Hook as their father's angry/strict side.
Snow White was the first animated film I ever watched, I was maybe 3 years old, and my mom later told me that the thing I was afraid of was not the Evil Queen or the old witch, but the mirror! haha She said I got nightmares from it! lol Looking back, it does look more creepy than the main villain; the way it's face warps and all...
fun fact: the line"mirror, mirror on the wall" wich most people think is the original, based on the german original story from the Grims Brothers. in the german original the evil queen said "Spieglein Spieglein an der wand" wich is directly translatet to : mirror mirror on the wall. to underline that the mirror is a magic one, Disney desided to change the line into "magic mirror on the wall"
Beauty and the Beasts original script was closer to the story and even as it got modified it kept in line with the story. I just wish it had Belle's aunt and sisters
Well yeah, I was surprised when I saw Hercules. Zeus wasn’t smashing every woman he saw, Hera was a caring, picture perfect mother, Hades was an evil god with the most problems, and Hercules was a loving, innocent guy.
You only realize that Mr. Darling and Hook were played by the same actor when at the the beginning when Mr. and Mrs. Darling are leaving to go to a party and Mr. Darling yells while they’re on the street and then you hear Hook’s first line

Originally, Captain Hook was supposed to die at the end of Peter Pan, following the ending of the play/book, but Walt Disney changed it at the last minute because he thought audiences would love Hook too much to want to see him die. Also the record, fuck James Woods
Didn't Scar, technically have the first line in Lion King If you dont count the opening song... The opening line/bit... is Scar playing with a mouse, readying to kill and eat it.
5 лет назад
I think it meant that it was a villain the first to have a line in Disney's history.
I have read a theory that Peter Pan is actually the villain, and Hook is the hero. Peter basically kidnaps children and holds them hostage, while Hook is trying to defeat him.
I think Lion King also has the first line said by a villain. "Life's not fair, is it? You see, I... well, I shall never be king. And you... shall never see the light of another day. Adieu." -Scar
Lots of amazing actors and actresses that made a great job of playing Disney villains: Glenn Close - Cruella De Vil Helena Bonham Carter - Red Queen Angelina Jolie - Maleficent Sharlto Copley - King Stefan Cate Blanchett - Lady Tremaine/Stepmother Stellan Skårsgard - The Grand Duke Idris Elba - Shere Khan Christopher Walken - King Louie Luke Evans - Gaston Josh Gad - LeFou
I knew about the scar being sung by two actors thing. I don’t remember their names but the one who voiced scar lost his voice halfway through and couldn’t sing. So the one who voiced I think it was either bonzai or Shenzie did it instead
Mother Gothel's Death is not just the disturbing part, but Tarzan is...after Clayton's death, Clayton's body appears in the tree while Tarzan falls to the ground...you can see, it's more disturbing.
'Mirror, mirror' is technically correct, though, if you look at the original German as recorded by the Brothers Grimm, so it's understandable why people often think the Evil Queen says it that way.
I knew some of these facts already, such as Scar’s birth name being Taka, Scar, Jafar and Gaston being animated by the same person, Gaston originally going to say “time to die”, Cruella de Vil originally planned to be reused for The Rescuers,
Fun fact: fairy tales were a way to scare people when they were told originally. Disney made them cute. So it's not that they were dark, it's that Disney changed the story.
I love when cartoon characters are character designs of the people who are the voices for them like it is with Hades -James Woods. There's also genie- Robin Williams, Iago-Gilbert Godfreed, Mushu-Eddie Murphy. Does anyone know of other Disney characters like this?
Having the Father and Captain Hook being the same actor, that comes from the stage play, where they are both played by the same actor. That's common knowledge, so not really surprising at all.
Concerning the "mirror, mirror" thing: In the German original fairy tale, it's "Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand ..." -- even non German speakers may notice that the word Spieglein ("little mirror") occurs twice. ;) Greetings from a smart ass German.
Technically Disney didn't create Cruella she was created by Dodie Smith who the person who wrote the book The Hundred and One Dalmatians which is the book that the movie is based on
I can see why the tuberculosis would be a serious problem for the actress of Maleficent, especially considering all the maniacal laughter she had to do.
Maybe it's because the members of my family have always been interested in voice actors, but I've known since I was a little girl (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, lol) that Captain Hook and Mr. Darling were voiced by the same actor. I adore Hans Conried! After working with Disney, he went on to Jay Ward Productions (home of Rocky and Bullwinkle)--notably Dudley Do-right, in which he voiced the resident villain, Snidely Whiplash. Anybody curious to see more of Mr. Conried--including his real-life face, lol--should take a look at Fractured Flickers (also from Jay Ward Prods.), clips of which can be found right here on RUclips. :-) Also available on RUclips: "Dr. T's Dressing Song" from THE 5,000 FINGERS OF DR. T. Strange, kind of disturbing movie, but that song, hammily performed by Hans Conried, is *wonderful*.

Since the flower kept her young for so long (judging by how much she ages after Rapunzel has her hair cut, I'm guessing it's been like that for about 90-95 years), when it came for her to die, she turned to dust/ash after falling because she had been meant to die so long ago, and that's why it was just a cloak. I loved this video, but I believe the reason they kept hook alive was because he knew the audience was going to get attached to him, and didnt want him to die in the end. An animator working on the film recalls Walt Disney giving that final say on the project.
"Time to die" is too aggressive, for a character who leads a song called, "Kill the Beast"?
Ikr!!!
It’s weird hearing captain hooks original voice, after watching ouat and getting hooked.
Be prepared was sung by Jim Cummings. He also voiced Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Darkwing Duck, and various characters.
Up until Scar says "You won't get a sniff without me!" it was sung by Jeremy Irons, the voice of Scar. Jeremy throughout his voice when he said that line, so Jim finished the song. If you listen closely, you can hear the difference.
Sterling Hoiloway and Paul Winchell originally did the first two.
@@SteveCarras that they did! Jim Cummings does a fantastic job at their voices now
They should have added that Ursula and Triton were originally going to be siblings.
They are siblings
They’re only siblings in the broadway musical.
Chenee Thompson Yes. The broadway musical came out in 2008
@@singalingalongaling But it added to a theory that they are in the movies as well .
For number 2. Not only sisters, but Belle also had three brothers. The character of Maurice in the story has three sons, three daughters.
In the movie Peter Pan of the year 2003 Jason Isaacs play the role of Mr. Darling and Captian Hook

I feel like it should be general knowledge that Hercules is not like the twelve labours, for one example; Hera is a good mother in this version
Brent Dreher Not to mention that Hercules is the Roman name.
Wow, I didn't know Eleanor Audley had TB! Good for her for keeping her commitment to the job!
"Mirror, Mirror on the wall..."
"Why do I look like Charles De Gaulle?"
"It's not Mirror Mirror on the Wall, it's Magic Mirror on the Wall" Mandela effect anyone?
I'm sorry it is mirror mirror on the wall
Its, "Slave in the magic mirror."
Did you know that Verna Felton Voiced two faces of good and bad?
Honorable Mention #1 : Actually, I think a lot of people already knew that fact. Jeremy Irons sang the entire first verse of the song, and Jim Cummings sang the final verse after Irons' voice gave out.
To be precise, Jim Cummings sang the final verse after Jeremy Iron's line, "You won't get a sniff without me!"
I love how pascal killed mother gothel like a badass chameleon 😎
Fun Fact: Both of the Disney movies of which Eleanor Audley starred in are based on fairy tales written by Charles Perrault.

I loved Medusa in the Rescuers! She was hilarious!
Fun fact: As you now know, James Hook and George Darling were voiced by the same actor. In 2003 action version of "Peter Pan", Jason Isaacs, also played as both of the characters. LOL coincidence
@@JD-el9eo omg! I didn't know that fact, but thank you for telling me!👍
Mother Gothel's death does make more sense; she's a centuries'-old woman literally living on stolen time!
‘Name is Hades, lord of the death.Hi,how ya doin?’
My favorite villain
Elanor Audley allso voice Madame Leota in the Haunted Masion ride at Disneyland a hat trick of spine chilling characters.
422rds “a hat trick of spine chilling characters”?
It's interesting to note that Cruella would've returned as the villain for The Rescuers after failing to get her Dalmatian coat, but I guess the animators didn't want it to feel like a continuation to 101 Dalmatians. Then again Madam Medusa did retain Cruella's bad driving habit.
After seeing the maleficent movie, I don't count her as a villain. She simply wants revenge on the king who stole her wings.
@@laurenberry7750 she cursed him because the king stole her wings
Also Cindeella stepmom had heart shaped pupils. That i could never forget
OMG, I saw the person behind the beautiful voice for the first
Here's a fun fact.
Tony Jay was hands-down a thespian of The Walt Disney Company.

In some versions of Disney's Snow White, the line is "magic mirror on the wall" and in some versions it's "mirror, mirror on the wall."
Originally, Captain Hook was supposed to die at the end of Peter Pan, following the ending of the play/book, but Walt Disney changed it at the last minute because he thought audiences would love Hook too much to want to see him die.
Also the record, fuck James Woods
Didn't Scar, technically have the first line in Lion King
If you dont count the opening song...
The opening line/bit... is Scar playing with a mouse, readying to kill and eat it.
I think it meant that it was a villain the first to have a line in Disney's history.
@
oooh, yeah.
I feel bad for the fact that Han’s horse has such a evil owner when he is such a cute and nice horse
Queen Grimhelda also has the most misquoted line in history: the “mirror, mirror” line.
The inserts of the movie lines are impeccable.
Eleanor Audley also voiced Madame Leota in the Haunted Mansion.
just to clarify. This is in reference to the ride not the Eddie Murphy movie.
Lots of amazing actors and actresses that made a great job of playing Disney villains:
Glenn Close - Cruella De Vil
Helena Bonham Carter - Red Queen
Angelina Jolie - Maleficent
Sharlto Copley - King Stefan
Cate Blanchett - Lady Tremaine/Stepmother
Stellan Skårsgard - The Grand Duke
Idris Elba - Shere Khan
Christopher Walken - King Louie
Luke Evans - Gaston
Josh Gad - LeFou
I knew about the scar being sung by two actors thing.
I don’t remember their names but the one who voiced scar lost his voice halfway through and couldn’t sing.
So the one who voiced I think it was either bonzai or Shenzie did it instead
I actually knew that Peter Pan was a play before there was a book. Learned something new about several others though. Thank you.
I always felt Peter from Peter Pan was the actual villain in the movie. He cut off a man’s hand for fun and fed it to a crocodile.
Mother Gothel's Death is not just the disturbing part, but Tarzan is...after Clayton's death, Clayton's body appears in the tree while Tarzan falls to the ground...you can see, it's more disturbing.
Even as a little kid, I always knew that the line was "Magic mirror on the wall" and inwardly cringed everytime it was misquoted.
'Mirror, mirror' is technically correct, though, if you look at the original German as recorded by the Brothers Grimm, so it's understandable why people often think the Evil Queen says it that way.
@@adamgourley6412 finally, someone...
I knew some of these facts already, such as Scar’s birth name being Taka, Scar, Jafar and Gaston being animated by the same person, Gaston originally going to say “time to die”, Cruella de Vil originally planned to be reused for The Rescuers,
I see a Watchmojo or MsMojo video on Disney villains, I immediately hit it!!!!! What can I say? I love Disney baddies.

I was laughing when gaston said:"It's over beast,Belle is mine!" Ok i know it ain't funny for you but it is for me
Damn i so wish Cruella was the antagonist in The Rescuers! I love the movie & love Medusa but Cruella would have been much more iconic.
Having the Father and Captain Hook being the same actor, that comes from the stage play, where they are both played by the same actor. That's common knowledge, so not really surprising at all.
Concerning the "mirror, mirror" thing:
In the German original fairy tale, it's "Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand ..." -- even non German speakers may notice that the word Spieglein ("little mirror") occurs twice. ;)
Greetings from a smart ass German.
Technically Disney didn't create Cruella she was created by Dodie Smith who the person who wrote the book The Hundred and One Dalmatians which is the book that the movie is based on
Most classic disney films are based on books though so that’d be another list within itself
In #2: I saw the original story reel that features Belle's aunt as the main antagonist with a different version of Gaston
That explains why I've always felt Medusa was a watered down Cruella.
