Currently daily driving a '98 BMW Z3 which made me fall in love with small, light, RWD roadsters and a ND Miata has got to be my eventually-attainable dream car because of it. A brand-new Miata just seems like the best possible version of that formula that has ever existed.
a used 2015 NC is also really nice. you get a much more oldschool car but with a more recent build date
My neighbor just got a 98 Z3 as his retirement gift to himself and he gave me a joyride in it and man, for a stock lil roadster, that thing was so much fun. My neighbor is 76 and a huge auto junky and he takes this thing out for a canyon rip DAILY lol. I gotta get like him.
@@lookoutforKURT The only problem I have with NCs is they're by far the ugliest miata.
@@lookoutforKURT I had 2 NC's, they're awesome. But ND feels much lighter and agile. NC feel super heavy compared to ND.
Cars like the Miata just bring so much joy to drive. I mean if you have no other specific reason you have to drive anything else, why not drive something that makes you happy ya know?
I love how Topher just hangs out in your drives
im in his GT3 video today =)
Fellow ND1 owner here. Suspension, tires, braided brake lines ans an exhaust are all you need. I've been daily driving mine ever since I've picked it up brand new in 2017. 112.000 km later I really never wanna part from it ever!
When I lived in Culver City, owning a ND1 RF Club was the best decision I ever made. Weekly trips to Mulholland to just clear the mind increased my mental health by leaps and bounds. Is it perfect? No.
Was it perfect for me? Yes.
Another banger from Tedward!
Yes, driving MX-5 should be prescribed as an antidepressant. Nothing gives such endorphins boost even within speed limit 😊
I'm in culver. I'm the one with the meatballs on the side.
It's lovely how effortlessly you can take those turns.
I drive one an yeah completely shock is an awesome car to drive. The 180hp feel like a lot more
@@Sam-gl5vk Well 180 isn't the worst thing with a small chassis like that. Anything past 300 on these little things feels like a death trap 😂
No the chassis can take it. Watch Matt Farah's video on the LS3 swapped ND miata. He says it doesn't feel scary/overwhelming at all and that the miata's balance is still mantained@@Perry....
Welp, this just made my day. My 2 favorite POV drivers, in a modified ND, on Mullholland. #heaven
The more I watch these videos the more I love my ND. Even though I have the 1.5L I find it just fast enough to have the best fun I can have. I can just trash it anywhere, it sounds great and I'm always under 7 liters of fuel per 100km! It's not incredibly fast but it feels like it because of the revs and the sound. I love this car.
100% agree, you might like my videos 😊
My mom had an ND2 RF. Redline was 7.5k and the intake noise was perfect. The stock exhaust volume and tone was perfect. She was driving it as a daily and complained that it was too noisy and too cramped and had manual seats smh. That’s literally what a Miata is. She got rid of it which I was really sad about
That exhaust sounds really good!
Sounds like the Goodwin Racing Roadster Race exhaust
Small roadster with high revving engine. The ND1 is amazing. The ND2 is even more so. It's one of the few cars in this world where you can drive your Friends supercar Lambo or Ferrari then get back into your Miata and STILL SMILE
This is the one of the best POV drives I’ve seen on YT in a long time. I’ve never not had a good time while driving a Miata. Excellent platforms for the money.👌🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥
That looked like you were both enjoying that run. That is the fun bit about small cars with great handling. They love the twisty roads.
Great to watch!👍 The sound of this manual car is a music for ears.
Even my base 2018 Miata is such an incredible car to drive at any speed, I’d love to get my hands on this one though! You hit the nail on the head when you said “connected”, which is the perfect description of driving a Miata. And you picked the perfect road! When I was 13 I got taken for a high speed run through Mulholland in a 1972 Lotus Elan that I still remember vividly.
It makes me happy to know that Mazda continues to remember what is important in this formula over the years.
Excited for your thoughts and comparisons on all these fun cars!
That car looks like a DREAM to drive in those canyons with those turns 🔥
I fell in love with this car from watching the IMSA mx-5 cup. Seeing how it also grips on the streets its amazing. Great video!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!
i absolutely love hearing my favorite car youtubers gush over the car i have :))
One of my favorite motoring experiences was the week I Turo’d a 2019 Miata RF in LA. What a blast to drive in the mountains!
Your video and Topher's convinced me to get Ohlins Road and Track for my ND2. They're sitting next to me and I'm so excited!!!
Best video of the year!
It just sounds gorgeous!
a Miata never fails to get a smile on your face🥰
They are just great, and NDs look sweet too.
I am so damn obsessed of my ND2 it hasn’t been 24 hours and I’m legit feening to get behind the wheel
Man, this makes me want to cut outta here and head to the canyons! I have a near 140k mile E91 manual and this road is calling. I'm in Agoura... it's literally calling for me.
Welp, this video inspired me to check Autotempest for an ND, and here I am two days later with a 2016 Club. Look what you’ve done!! 🤬. In all seriousness, love your videos and keep on drivin’ !
E85 tuned ND1 are amazing. Love mine. Recently installed headers and I'm waiting for the tune file from Fab9
just purchased my first car. basically this exact spec but it's stock. I'm so happy.
WOW, what a wicked road!
This is my dream car, I live for the Miata.
Wow these roads are insane.
Omg, amazing tune
Cannot wait to get my MX5 back on the road. I miss it.
Great exhaust note!
Best Motoring is fun to watch.
Looks like another road I'll have to seek out next time I am in Cali. I got to explore some nice Bay Area roads last time, in a rental 911 no less, and it was a fabulous time. There is no substitute for some good mountain driving.
Now this is satisfying 😍
Just amazing!
My cousin and one of my good friends both have Z3 roadsters right now, and I adore them. However, while the little go-kart noises from a Miata are nothing compared to the screams of those BMW 6-cylinders, the Miata feels so wonderful in a way that a car with a larger engine simply cannot manage.
One day, a brand-new Miata will be all mine. One day.
Best show miata, track miata and now youtube miata
that looks too much fun!
dream car right here.
What a car!
That brings me back! I live in the same neck ‘o the woods as you do, now, but I used to live in Pasadena, and I used to LOVE taking my 1994 NA up into the San Gabriels! There are almost UNLIMITED TWISTIES up there! Yup, had her for 11 years out there, drove her 120K miles. Now, 11 years later (2 years ago, when I was on my death bed), I bought another one, a ‘97 M-edition in metallic green and tan leather, mint with 40K on the clock, and I’ve been driving her ever since (never in winter). I’m looking forward to at least another 11 years, this time in New England!
I live there now, and it's great making any excuse to hit the 2 :)
the exhaust is nice in this one.
Lovely video as usual! California looks nice considering the real feel in New York is 7 degrees and my stupid self decided to only wear a hoodie today lol... But can't complain too much b/c I know most people upstate and in the Northern parts of New England might as well use their freezer as heat since it is literally warmer in there than it is outside
Lol @ the initial attempt to put it into first! My ND isn’t always happy going into first either
ND1s have come down in price a lot lately. I have been considering it.
I've long said a set of quality coilovers and some better rubber completely moves the ND1/ND2 up a performance class. The cars are so held back from the factory, more so than the 86 twins and other similar vehicles.
May have to add an ND1 to go with my NB1 one now. People don't understand how fun a 2300lb car can be.
Nice video man! I own a MX5 ND red soul, 1.5 it always makes my day when the weather is good. At low speed (max 100km/h) it's even more fun than a 997 and a boxster 718... The good things are the reliability, handling, the sound, power is okay, low maintenance costs, taxes are affordable and it's timeless. Cons: It's dangerous in wet/snowy icy roads...
No its not - very much depends of the tires
LOVE it when people opt for the Topher option!
I can’t imagine not checking that box
I'm too tall to fit in Miatas, but gosh they seem like so much fun. Would love to drive an ND so much 🥲
tedwardino - nice reviewino
It's so much fun those little japanese cars
I’m melting 🫠
Its like listening to 2 of the same guys, you have so similar voices :D
Even though it clearly sees full use from its owner, this is a good example. 2018 which means it has the red soft top. Plus best exhaust & aero diffuser combo. Engine tune, seats, and suspension are good.
although I sadly don’t own a miata, I do have a 79’ MGB with a supercharger and some engine refining so that it puts out barely over 120 hp, and by weighing less than a ton, it does feel and look like a 70’s miata in a way. you should try it if you manage to find one in decent shape and form! twisty roads are always a blast with it😄😄
I drive these roads to work in Malibu every single day and absolutely need to find myself a decent Miata
Tom, you're gonna make me buy a Miata!
Each time you get into your Miata, you start a roadtrip.
Damn man. I want to drive on these roads
Those roads look great! I’m yet to have a drive in a ND but love my NA and NB. It’s a pitty more manufactures don’t try to compete with Mazda. Would be cool to have more affordable rear wheel drive lightweight sports cars around.
No other manufacturer can beat Mazda at their own game.
Daihatsu copen gr sport
Makes my miss my tuned ND1 RF on E85.
MIATA IS ALWAYS THE ANSWER
The best 😊. All this needs is my induction sound mod. I have some videos showing how.
Glad you enjoyed driving the canyons in Malibu.
The best!
Awesome video as usual. Had the same 2018 ND1 with the red top. Got it when the ND2 was announced and Mazda offered a $4000 incentive plus I got E-plan pricing. Very fun car and I really miss it. Considering picking up an ND2 now but it looks like 2024 will be an ND3 before the NE happens in 2026.
I don't know another car more enjoyable on a canyon road than a Miata. A Porsche can be faster but in a relation between enjoyment and money obviously the Miata is the owner of the mornings of your weekends. And how It sounds!! ♥️♥️. Good video!! 😉👍🏼👍🏼
P.D:. May be another japanese....it's called MR2....🤣🤣🤣
MIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATAAAAAAAAAA
Damn! Those roads are incredible! I'd kill for something like that in CT!
Connecticut has great roads lol
@@tyhyhh not around me in Hartford county.
@@Krazy_Shorts Move out of Fartford then.
@@Krazy_Shorts I'm in the northwest corner, head on 44 east. The back roads in Litchfield County and Berkshire county MA are great.
TE37 the world
One of my fav youtuber uploads a video about a car I just bought on the very same day. Such fun!
no way!! Congrats
@@TedwardDrives Thanks chief! ^^ Stay safe!
I love Tedward/Topher crossovers. You two should start a channel together like ThrottleHouse but in your own style.
This makes me miss driving my BRZ down the tail of the dragon
5:02 Level 3 always starts to roast my behind as well.
Claps his shoes before getting into another man's ride. My kinda dude
Man, i really want to drive a miata
Tedward, I’m a bit surprised you DON’T own a Miata! They are very easy, and inexpensive (relatively speaking) to own…
Tedward, come drive my ND2 around Boston. Our “canyon” drives are ditching potholes.
MIATA!!!
Nooo! Tedward leave me alone! 0:29 I cant go back!
Well i think i need to roadtrip my MINI to these roads... eventually :')
I NEED a 2007 Subaru WRX STI on this channel!
damnit now i want one
🙌🙌🙌
Just before I got my license I got big into sim racing, the iRacing ND1 cup has "ruined" my taste in cars. lightweight convertible and targa roadsters like this are the purest form of a driver's car. Had 3 cars so far, a 95' del sol, a '97 Z3 and currently a '01 ZZW30. Each more fun than the next.
0:22 TOASTYYY🥪🔥😄
Times like these I miss my ND but then I see my backseat in the current car and think: made the better decision to sell it. Perfect as a fun car but just not roomy enough to be an only car. However I do miss putting the roof down when it's dry... Also the community for the current commuter is bigger in these lands. The ND really is in a niche of it's own.
The ND is quite a bit smaller inside than earlier Miatas. Mazda had to compromise interior space to keep external dimensions down to meet safety regs. I find my NB to be a perfect single person car.
That is unfortunately why I will have to get rid of mine. As my only car there just isn't enough room.
Wow, now that's some seriously awesome canyon driving! I'm curious to know is the Miata the answer on that canyon cruise over the Type R, GR86 and SI? If so, then maybe I gotta get a Miata!
Just pick the miata you can’t go wrong
Lol of course those car do not come close u can spend millions on a car n it will never deliver what u get in a lotus elise/exige, miata, air cooled 911. There too lightweight n small, supercars are way bigger n weigh alot more, more then 50% more weight.
@Sideways Singh this comment is very helpful to me. You clearly have more insight on this topic than me and I appreciate you taking the time to enlighten me. Those cars you just mentioned are my next RUclips deep dives! Cheers my friend.
It's so sad, the Verus is diffusor is not legal here in Germany... I once missed the time, when there was a slight chance to drive it legally over here... but now, no chance. Also Tomei Exhaust... not legal here or the single piped Invidia system... Damn regulations
Besides that, great video 💘
Do I smell a miata being added to the stable? caw caw
Where did the owner get the Recaro seats? Those weren’t available on ND1 in the United States, and when they came for ND2, it was only the RF that got the option.
I miss my ND1. I recently went from a 16’ ND1 to a 20’ BMW M2C and it’s just not the same…
Lol I’ve been between these cars for a while now. ND2 didn’t feel that special & cramped for a daily, but M2C just felt big/heavy. BRZ is just so loud inside. Still considering next car… M2C, 23 M2…
@@On2thakneppz1 if you’re looking for a daily, M2 for sure! They have some good deals on a use G87.
blackpink in your area... i was actually looking to get a bp or red velvet plate for my rf
I like that you clap your feet before getting in, something I also do.
TEDWARD, WE NEED A GR86 or 22/23 BRZ REVIEW! Please give it to us
What exhaust is this? Best one that I've heard so far.
I live near a bunch of canyon roads in the Rockies and have always dreamed of having a fun car for them. My uncle's NC miata is honestly just... boring. But this? I could get behind this. Sounds like I need to research ND Miata exhausts/tuning.
