I was in truck equipment for 12 years then worked for a landscaping company for 5 and did tons of trailer repairs/maintenance and customizing. Looking forward to watching this series.
Thanks Brandon. I am strictly a hobbyist but I'm always a little happier if I can use what I have on hand rather than buy more. I look forward to this series.
I feel the same way Doug. It's a great feeling. Problem is, as soon as I throw something out that I haven't used in a decade, you can rest assured I will need it the following week
I've been thinking of doing the same (buying an older trailer and referbing it), so perfect timing of this project series. Can't wait for the next vid. Thanks for sharing this with us, Brandon!
Thanks man. There is a lot of satisfaction and peace of mind going this route (provided the cost doesn't exceed that of new trailer once done) and you can make it YOUR way which is usually better than how the factory did it.
This should be a good series. When we lived in Florida we bought new metal panels for our building because they needed replaced. I started cutting them with an angle grinder with cut off wheels but used too many of them and we had to cut quite a few. I used my Makita saw and bought metal cutting blades, it made cutting them so much easier. Later afterwards used a big magnet to get the shavings.
Here in Ohio I don’t normally worry about things freezing to the ground. This weekend is the exception…highs of 28 (below freezing anyway). I have used blocks under my tongue feet for years because I am lazy. Less screwing in or out of the foot. Keep up the great videos.
I do the same thing, plus having more of the jack inside itself I think helps keep it protected from the elements and rust. We had our first snowfall of the year in Thanksgiving which is unusual here.
Looks like a great project. Here in Fla we put blocks under the tongue jacks because we're lazy and don't like spinning the jack all the way up and down.😂
Nice job, Brandon!!! Such good ideas and processes to make something broken and really unusable into a working and very nice looking trailer hitch. Looking forward to following your progress on this build. I watched your original trailer build some time ago and that was interesting. Be well, be safe, be Blessed!!!
Thank you very much Jim! My next mission is to find a paint I can apply outside in cold temps. I want to coat the top surface before installing new decking
Thanks for this info. Especially the part where you made a keyway for the jack foot extension. Many times I have run into that kind of problem in which I have to search for the correct diameter and proper keyway in the foot extension. I've ordered and returned quite a few of them from Amazon in that quest. Now I know that I can use your technique to eliminate that hassle.
Excellent project. That's a great repair and upgrade on the trailer Jack.. I am afraid it's not going to be the last time you fix that jack and tongue if you have a brother or best friend like mine 😮😢. They left the jack down and drove all the way back to my house. Ground the foot completely off. Lucky it didn't catch in a pot hole.
I rebuilt a mobile home tongue that been jack knifed. Had to replace whole thing. Using old one as parts, was a challenge. Had to triple weld to make sure will hold up 65 x 14 foot trailer. I love your job better!! Lol
@@BrandonLundMake sure you put them in plain site,I was drilling some .250 aluminum with a 2" hoke saw,and after like the 10th hole I looked up and was like ,awww idiot!
That Hobart 140 is a work horse. It’s basically a Miller in Hobart clothing. I use the 140 for everything. It just works. I’ve only ever made the thermal light come on once during some insanely long root passes building an outdoor kitchen.
I love mine. I have a LOT of time on mine and it's never failed me. They are just about bulletproof, however, I have bern eyeing the 210 mvp. Same idea just has 220 also
@@BrandonLund , funny you say this because I have also considered that MVP. But every time I have come close to pulling the trigger, I just realize I don’t need it.
Hey Brandon, great video again but to short in my opinion because just when it starts interesting, the fun is already over and I have to wait for a hole week. Just kidding, what's in the future is exciting and promises a lot of more fun. Btw, how is your leg going, it's still very thick for what I seen, stay safe healthy and take care of yourself, wish you a very nice weekend and greetz.
Thanks Christian! There will be lots more interesting videos to come. The leg is still swollen a lot but I'm getting stronger everyday. The physical therapist says I need to be on it to get better which also causes swelling. Full recovery is a 1 year process they tell me
Much value for little money. After putting some work into it you will get a super strong trailer. This is just a lucky purchage which I wellcome very much to you. It shall take some time to fit it in accordance with your purposes.. Love it!! All the best luck Brandon...😀💯💯💥💥❣Friendliest greetz from Holland..Marcel Knippers. Ps awesome piece of FluxCore-welding.. I get used to FluxCore more and more especially outside...You show us clearly how to distinguish FluxCore from normal wire. FluxCore breaks when you bend it😀
Dude - you're killing my back just watching you work hunched over that trailer! Get yourself a roller stool already - they're like $20 bucks from Harbor Freight.
Lol, I have 2. My driveway is garbage, so they dont roll for beans. I've been holding off on repaving my driveway until the concrete is poured for a bigger shop. I'm running out of space lol
Thanks for the video ! , I have a question,, when welding outdoors do you get a bad glare on the inside of your helmet ? If so,, How do you deal with it ?
Thanks for the information on how to beef up the tongue jack. I have an old trailer that is close to 30 years old that has spent its entire life in NY between the Hudson Valley and the Adirondacks. What size plate did you use?
Great video. Looking forward to the rest of the series. I just moved back to New Hampshire from Florida and I forgot about the trailer jacks freezing to the ground. Thanks, for that tip.
I have to tell you…i had a trialer like that and i hate The jack setup like that..but its level and even…i really wish they made a setup where two legs came down at the same time on opposite side….i suppose its over kill but i just don’t like that setup…..i have a 18 foot trailer with one of those setups and it doesnt work out with a lot of weight. Its too hard to wind up
I don't like the wind up Jack's one side either. I've used some that crank real easy and others that don't. This one seems to crank slowly, so I think the gear reduction will probably be easy with a heavy load.
Tristands are super handy. I picked up a couple. I wish they had the chain vise like yours but for the price I can't gripe. I am going to weld up a thingy from pipe that I can clamp in the vise and use to hold metal while I practice welding in different positions. Something like this but I will clamp it in the tristand rather than bolt it to the bench. ruclips.net/video/_VZPAfe6cS8/видео.html

Thanks Russell. My hopes are that it should be very entertaining.
Agreed. Putting 'skills' to work in this manner on rebuilding a worn out trailer is absolutely my cup of coffee...
Well, this trailer has PLENTY of things it needs, so hopefully you have a good supply of coffee! hahaha were going to be a while LOL

Thats what I had to do outside to make sure when I get my new tires I don't get a puncture
Nice work. Waiting on more videos. Here in the South we put blocks under our jack leg too I do it so I don’t have to crank on it so far. 🤷🏻♂️
I do that here too. Throw a couple blocks under so your not cranking for as long 👍
I am looking forward to this new series. Not since the white trailer have I enjoyed videos so much. Lol.
I appreciate that! This will be a lot like this series but better (I think so anyways)
Great start Brandon, fun to watch your progress. You'll have a great trailer to either use or sell when your finish.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Joe. I usually have intentions to sell but I easily lose that thought once I start using it lol

Deja Vue! This is what I did all summer long in Phoenix. The results are shown in your Facebook group. Should be interesting!
It was a lot of fun, but then again I was just doing the one. Thanks for watching!

I too hate the hassle of trying to figure out what I need. Now this will fit all my trailers
good job Brandon, it is always nice to save money.
Thanks man! I agree and I'm enjoying this project so far
Just discovered your channel. Great stuff. Very helpful to budding hacks of welders like myself! Really enjoy the tips and tricks. Greetings from VT.
Thank you and welcome aboard, fellow New Englander!
Really enjoyed this video. Will be watching.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Great work,I’ll be watching
Thanks Scott!
As always, nice work.
I appreciate that Scott!
Thanks for this video. I have to do the same repair on a cargo trailer. Will be adding the bottom piece of steel for reinforcement as well.
Glad I could help!

Clever, how you put the lower brace on the bottom frame rail. Thanks for the lesson.
Thanks Phillip! This should be the last time fixing that part of the trailer.
LOVE the videos. HATE the outro music! 😆

Nice Job Brandon, looks like that trailer was dragged through a few Alabama swamps before you got to it.
It's definitely seen a better day!
Thanks for the video ! , I have a question,, when welding outdoors do you get a bad glare on the inside of your helmet ? If so,, How do you deal with it ?
I do. A baseball hat on backwards helps if you can't position the sun directly in front of you.

Just a sidenote, I ruined my smartwatch Glass welding just like you with it exposed to fluxweld spatter
LOL this one is destroyed. It stung at first because it has a special coating and that's now all pitted up. Stick welding is brutal on it
