The New Orleans class cruiser was the last cruiser class built under treaty restrictions in the 1930's for the US navy. The seven ships of the class being New Orleans (CA-32), Astoria (CA-34), Minneapolis (CA-36), Tuscaloosa (CA-37), San Francisco (CA-38), Quincy (CA-39), & Vincennes (CA-44). The USS Wichita (CA-45) was intended to be a part of the New Orleans class but instead used the hull of a Brooklyn, thus making her a unique cruiser. This change gave her more armor on her belt & conning tower. I'll refer to USS New Orleans to Nola because Nola is shorter. She was laid down on March 14, 1931, launched on April 12, 1933, & commissioned on February 15, 1934. Nola was present during the attack of pearl harbor (Date: December 7, 1941) with her engines under repair & her receiving power from the dock when the attack began. Because Nola was receiving power from the dock, her 5"/25 guns had to be aimed & fired manually & her ammunition hoist was also non-functional which made it difficult to get more ammunition topside to the guns. Her crew also fired at the planes with their rifles & pistols. Lieutenant Howell M. Forgy aboard the Nola chanted "Praise the lord & pass the ammunition." Nola have taken minimal damage from fragmentation when a bomb exploded near her & she was able to return to service quickly. Nola was present at the Battle of Coral Sea (Date: May 4-8, 1942) being part of the Lexington class carrier USS Lexington (CV-2) escort. She towed the Lexington & saved 580 of her crew before she was scuttled. Nola was present at the Battle of Midway (Date: June 4-7, 1942) screening for Task Force 16 which included USS Enterprise (CV-6) & USS Hornet (CV-8) then later joined Task Force 17 which included USS Yorktown (CV-5). All Yorktown class carriers. Nola was present at the Battle of the Solomon Island (Date: August 24-25, 1942) where she screened for the Lexington class carrier USS Saratoga (CV-3). Nola aided the invasion force on Guadalcanal. Nola was present at the Battle of Tassafaronga (Date: November 30, 1942) battling against Japan destroyer squadron 2 which was a part of the 8th fleet. Japan force at the battle consisted of 8 destroyers while the American force involved 5 cruisers & 4 destroyers. Nola was stricken by a torpedo during her change of course to avoid collision when the ship infront of her (USS Minneapolis CA-36) was stricken by torpedoes. This strike severed everything infront of turret B from the ship. 1 IJN destroyer was sunk; 1 USN cruiser was sunk & 3 cruisers including Nola was heavily damaged during the battle resulting in a Japanese victory. Nola returned to action in 1943 attacking 3 Island groups involving Wake islands in October, Gilberts islands in November, & Marshalls islands in December. Nola was with the new Essex class carrier USS Lexington (CV-16) when she was stuck by a torpedo during the raids in December. Nola continued to support more invasions in 1944 involving too many to name them all. A plane from the Essex class carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10) also crashed into Nola mainmast crashing into the sea in April. Nola was present at the Battle of the Philippine Sea (Date: June 19-20, 1944) screening the carriers. Nola then continued supporting & bombarding islands including Iwo Jima, Okinawa, & more. The invasions of Okinawa began on April 1, 1945 & Iwo Jima began February 19, 1945. Nola was present during the Battle of Leyte Gulf (Date: October 23-26, 1944). Nola along with 3 other cruisers sank the Chitose class light carrier IJN Chiyoda & the Akizuki class destroyer IJN Hatsuzuki during the battle(s). Nola supported the Invasions of Okinawa (Date: April 1-June 22, 1945) with not much more happening afterwards & the war soon ending. The USS New Orleans received 17 battle stars. Tied for the third most decorated ship in the US navy during the war sharing this position with USS Minneapolis, USS San Francisco, & the Fletcher class destroyer USS O'Bannon (DD-450). The second most decorated ship is the Atlanta class cruiser USS San Diego (CL-53) earning 18 battle stars. The most decorated ship is the Yorktown class carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6) earning 20 battle stars. Nola ended her carrier participating in operation magic carpet & serving occupation duties before being decommissioned on February 10, 1947 & scrapped on September 22, 1959. Exta: • 1 destroyer & 4 destroyer escorts were named after Nola crew killed at the Battle of Tassafaronga. These being the Gearing class destroyer USS Rogers (DD-876), USS Hayter (DE-212), USS Swenning (DE-394), USS Foreman (DE-633) & USS Haines (DR-792). The Hayter, Foreman, & Haines being Buckley class destroyer escorts. The Swenning being an Edsall class destroyer escort. • Although the Nola was scrapped, the ship's bell & some of her momentos are preserved on the Fletcher class destroyer USS Kidd (DD-661)
So glad you mentioned not using the rear guns, especially on the German battleships kills me to see them go broadside to use all guns at start of game and the whole team just shoots.we need a start video on how to begin each types of battles,I have been seeing landslides every other game😢
Spartan, you sly dawg! You used jazz in the opening segment for this New Orleans “episode.” As a native Louisianan that lives close to “NOLA/Big Easy,” this was all culturally appreciated!
The USS New Orleans CL/CA-32, IS a New Orleans-class cruiser that earned 17 battle stars during WWII. The New Orleans played a vital role in rescuing 580 sailors (with many of the New Orleans' sailors diving overboard to save them) from the sunk USS Lexington at the Battle of the Coral Sea. It was scrapped in 1959. As for the WoW Legends version of the New Orleans I use Einstein as my primary commander, I have him leveled up to 16/3. In a cruiser I think it's good to use both shell types regardless if it's an American cruiser or not, in my opinion because the AP does not always yield the results if a ship is angled, so what I do is wait for a broadside moment which will happen if you're engaging a ship with torpedos. Range plays a role to.... AP is effective plunging fire damage at long range which was demonstrated on that Pensacola. It's all about situational awareness. My only complaint about American cruisers (with the exception of the USS Anchorage) is the lack of torpedos...having torpedos adds a layer of game play effectiveness for keeping ships at a distance more effectively to influencing zone control which is why I prefer playing German cruisers as a first choice. As for that CV player here's the thing about CV's in this game and video game culture as we know it. Yes it's tangent time with Uncle Moony! Because Spartan's pointing out of what would have been better appreciated by that carrier-player reminded me of something...which is culture. The CV is designed to be firstly, reconnaissance, and secondly to attack enemy ships. That recon part is boring. It yields little to zero personal rewards and we are a video game society that was built on the personal reward platform. High scores are products coming from high kills. This goes back 40 years at the least. I've been around since the video game console became a thing thanks to the Atari 2600, and my local video game arcade at the shopping mall. High scores with your initials next to that score was and still is immortality. That's a cultivated mindset and behavior, which is further encouraged by today's "look at me" social media in which one's own randomness is projected and celebrated as a daily event of relevance. So, back to WoW Legends....in which spotting is mundane, boring, involving time consuming lulls while watching others collect points that you would rather be collecting for yourself, hence spotting in a CV or hunting a DD while playing a DD isn't the most glamorous, instant score rewarding, explosive work to be investing one's time in, when as a whole, selfishness is what occupies one's attention span, because it gives faster gratification that's personally rewarded, hence a player that gets 2,000, 2,500 or more XP, with several medals, will likely be convinced they're one of the best player on the their team...even though what they didn't do cost is what cost their team the victory. Look at my numbers, it's not my fault, it's your fault and if the numbers aren't very good then "it's only a game" which means many indulge in their own unique brand of self-regulated, self medicating Confirmation Bias to justify their position at all times, all in the name of never being wrong. And this is why CV's and DD's will mostly fail their team often, hence producing lop-sided losses. The better-skilled players find ways to win in spite of their own team's selfish intentions through either sheer will, skill, luck, some capable teammates, or an opponent that's even worse in that clutch moment.
Alaska was my first Legendary Tier ship and ill still take it out from time to time just to have some fun....can crush cruisers and even wreck BBs if they give up the broadside but best of all can remove DDs when they overextended as you mentioned. Might not be the monster damage boats but it demands respect if seen on the Battlefield
Do you run the special skill in the third slot in Al Baltimore? And if so what does it really do? I know it says slower fuse time, but what are the benefits.
Even with Baltimore I regularly take my New Orleans out because she is just a really fun ship to use and she and her sisters have a lot of historical significance.
New Orleans....good god my experience with this thing was abysmal I couldn’t play it effectively but I eventually got through it and got Balti and New Orleans just sits in my port and collects dust it has so much it probably won’t even move
Man I love the new Orleans it was so much fun when I was grinding to Baltimore great ship great video also spartan I wish you would do a republic game for last month mine has been horrible not sure if me our something going on with her
Most of the time carrier players (which I hate) are flying their planes and nowhere near their ship, map awareness is key but it is hard to do when you’re concentrating on torpedo runs or bomb runs. You know this
Spartan: have you noticed a lot of game disconnects lately after last update? I have very high internet speed 1gb and my game connection drops almost every game. Only started happening in last month or so.
I've been in this situation several times, asking for support for my team, the enemy coming like this, and they didn't help, needless to say the game was a failure.
I don't think Norman Scott speaks Japanese, so I'm pretty sure that was Azur Lane. lol I use Scott with Yamamoto as an inspiration to boost the nastiness of the AP.
NAA you can def spam HE in the anchorage. Especially in smoke. Literally hitting BBs for 4k-6200k at far, mid, and close range. Other than that I agree with you American cruisers are most effective with AP

New Orleans can also be pretty cheeky when spec'd into concealment despite not having a radar.

This is my go to heavy cruiser. I love this ship. I just got the Atlanta, but I still go to this one.
I use a stealth build on all my cruisers because I like my stealth radars
Do you run the special skill in the third slot in Al Baltimore? And if so what does it really do? I know it says slower fuse time, but what are the benefits.
Honestly not usually it's supposed to make it less likely to overpen cruisers but I don't have too much trouble as is
Thanks, I usually run the added ap pen and damage. Awesome dude!!!
Thank you for the great info! I’ve been struggling with the American heavy cruisers
Glad it was helpful!
Even with Baltimore I regularly take my New Orleans out because she is just a really fun ship to use and she and her sisters have a lot of historical significance.

49,9k! So close!!
loved the baltimore and strangely enough the pensacola, but absolutely hated grinding new orleans for some reason.
Yall quick question what happened to TBull Chanel ? Cause I don't see him post wow legends videos anymore .
He got bored with the game and decided to move on after the controversy and getting removed from the CC program

Honestly no
Playing ships like New Orleans or Fiji help make you a better player if you are capable of thinking and breathing at the same time.
Do you think staying mobile in this ship is the best way to play it? I have tried using the island cover before and have not had much success.
In my experience yes
Maybe some HE at the end of the fight? What about the Schoors?
Could you play the USS Helena?
Yo, Off topic but what’s your opinion on the Schultz?
Havent played it to be honest
