You beat me to it haha damn you 😂 actually the director wanted to have him in leather but Peter said no put me in a white suit, it suits who Lucifer is better aka the light bringer
My favorite element about this version of the Devil that not only does he hardly get angry, but he knows damn good and well that John will slip and do something that lands on his list.
The devil in biblical description isn't an angry fellow. That's how he entices people. You don't go towards people that are angry. You go towards those that give you want you want. Also, he's supposed to be the most handsome thing in God's kingdom, and encrusted in every precious jewel. So the suit makes sense. The angry all black, horns, or goat legs is just renaissance interpretation in painting that people believe today
It’s more that he hides his anger behind a veneer, and it’s not that he knows John will do something bad he believes he will, because he suspects and thinks the worst of mankind that’s why johns sacrifice and beating him angered him so.
Only a few minutes on screen and he's capable to steal the whole movie. Peter Stormare is a hell of actor with a diabolical talent. Constantine's Lucifer is the best worst badass of the darkness.
Peter Stormare is just great. The original script had the devil wearing black leather and spikes but Stormare had the idea of him wearing a suit and having his feet covered in tar for effect and the director liked the idea and said yes. Sometimes the actors can really add to the story with their insight.
The only two thing's I wish they'd charged is I wish they left in John hooking up with a succubus, they didn't have to have sex but that's totally in John's wheelhouse and John starts chewing gum at the end seemingly giving up smoking, John Constantine doesn't learn from his mistakes except how to better get away with breaking the rules.
Comic fans are often times impossible to please as it is so I wouldn’t really care much if I write this movie’s script. You can adhere perfectly to the comics with a movie and “real fans” will still find something to bitch about.
Probably one of the favorite depictions of the devil because he cures John of cancer. Like yea it would be incredibly reasonable that he would save a man's life if it meant another chance at getting his soul and just to be his own middle finger to god.
Peter Stormare in Constantine and Viggo Mortensen’s portrayal of the devil are by far my favorite depictions of Lucifer. Peter’s version gives Luci a bit of a smug, perverse, and playfully deviant air about him. He knows just how powerful and dangerous he is, but he’ll opt to toy with you for his own sick pleasure.
Well thats how the devil would actually operate. He's not going to be all fire, skulls, and torture. He's going to operate in the shadows and toy with humanity. Satan doesn't want followers simply because they are scared and forced to follow. He wants to corrupt and pervert humanities view of God. He wants nothing more then to get humanity to believe he is actually the one true God. He wants us to freely follow him because we believe he is the light.
"Why is Lucifer in white?", "Oooh, Lu is for Lucifer" JESUS!!! These people are the reason show don't tell has died in movies. Everything needs to be spelled out for them
Mary Cherry is a prime example that you really only need to be nice to look at to succeed a lot of the time. If she didn’t have that going for her, she wouldn’t have made it 1/4 as far as she has. I used to follow her but stopped when I watched a few of her livestreams (where she’s pretty much a total ice queen, often times just plain rude, and blocks people left and right over the most trivial shit).
He absolutely commands this role, steals every single second he is on screen. Absolute perfect casting and perfect take on Lucifer. Terrifying in the control he shows of himself. Terrifying because you can also see the power lurking just below the surface. He understands John so so well. He's charming and even pleasant if he wants to be. I think a very close 2nd to this performance is The Firm.
This is still the best depiction of Lucifer in film to date and idc who argues with me over it. Peter Stomare owned this role and his what like 10 minutes of screen time? 10/10
The fact that half of these viewers didn't know who Lucifer was when John committed suicide again, and that the "selfless sacrifice" ushers your soul into heaven, is a sad testament to the lack of general knowledge of younger generations.
What is amazing about this movie is that we see hell, we see demons, monsters and the only angel is a traitor, so where are the good angels? and where's God?.... And if we really see the movie we can tell he is always there. If we check the succession of events, Gabriel tells Constantine that he needs humility, and selflessness to get into heaven and at the end he humbly prays _"I'm not worthy and not welcome in your house but I need your help"_ and commits the ultimate sacrifice, so God did not only sent help.. Lucifer of all angels went to do God's work!! He saved Isabel, sent his son back to hell, and as a bonus for taking Isabel's place he is taking his place in Heaven, but as a bonus the devil cures his wounds and cancer and gives Constantine another chance to live 😅😂😅 God does work in mysterious ways 🙏🏻❤😮
Just like how suicide earns you an immediate ticket straight to hell, giving your life for someone else automatically gets you into heaven because it is exactly what Jesus did.
Damn, never thought about it that deeply. He also gives Gabriel what she (he? shes pretty androgynous in this one) what she wants and was so angry about. This is a really good movie, but Peter Stormare absolutely ate everybody's lunch on set in what is probably the greatest portrayal of Lucifer ever seen, and that includes Viggo Mortensen's portrayal in Prophecy.
It is interesting that so many people think hell is in the Earth. We are living in hell, right now. Lucifer was banished from heaven to Earth (Ezekiel. ) Adam and Eve were banished from heaven to Earth. God only created Heaven and Earth (Genesis.)

Lucifer playing 4d chess, and he needs to
What is amazing about this movie is that we see hell, we see demons, monsters and the only angel is a traitor, so where are the good angels? and where's God?....
That's one way of looking at it. I see it more as he simply didn't need to help. He knew how everything would play out and so just sat back until it was time to grab John.
