This is a very brave cover version of a classic track . U2 have attempted to give it their blueprint and on the whole i'd say they've been successful .
I used to think this was some kind of 'now we're cool and into electronic music' posturing from their Zooropa period, which is when this was recorded. However in the making of Achtung Baby movie, Bono says Kraftwerk's 'The Man Machine' was the first album he ever bought for his now-wife, in high school. It had this song on it.. that's about as early to the party as you can be.
I love Kraftwerk, and I tolerate U2 (I've only heard How To Build An Atomic Bomb). I honestly don't think this is to bad; it captures the atmosphere they didn't add anything stupid, and there really isn't much Bono can do to make the vocals more interesting (and I doubt singing them in German would have been a good idea). I give it an A- for effort and hope they continue covering old synthpop standards. Maybe some Yellow Magic Orchestra.
U2 use electonic more sensitively. By the way it's real honour for somebody to be covered by U2. Almost evrybody who worked along with Eno should be able to understand atmosphere and using machines. So if you are modest, try to listen music not to finding differences between original and cover. I think Kraftwerk should be proud of it.
Well I don't know if they'd really want to mess with her... I mean, she's a pretty tough girl when it comes to fighting and whatnot. No doubt Tomb Raider has influenced her to buy a heap of weapons and vehicles... :P
I made the complaint on a video of 'Clocks' by coldplay saying that they ripped Kraftwerk. Though someone said something about coldplay asking for rights and whatnot... But I'm not sure to believe it myself. People just like sucking from Kraftwerk's teat to make themselves look like they're doing a charity or something. Seeing as Kraftwerk were never really the most 'popular' group. It sickens me too... It's like Angelina buying kids from all over the world for the public...

Huh? has simple minds covered this song? i thought that was OMD...
Fuck! I used to like...no, (the right word is) love U2 before and now I hear this - a total crap...Kraftwerk's version of the song is a masterpiece, I am really disappointed by U2

indeed... this is the WORST song of U2 ever. KRAFTWERK RULES!
wonderful sound quality..... wonderful creativity too on your part.. it makes me miss home x
Yes, another great version. I wish it were on RUclips.
U2 + KRAFTWERK = "''WONDERFUL""' !!!👊😎
i absolutely love the melody

Even U2 bows down to the greatest band of all time! Peace.
Well put, well put..
I love it!!!!
great cover! well done....a 10+
Fun! Thanks for sharing! I love the bleeds/ transitions, well done! On another note, there are 'neon lights' in the beginning! lol. ;)
OMD did this one brilliantly.

Of all the cover versions of this song, this is far the best
What a great song
U2 A Legend of a Band paying homage to Mega Legends
lol, there was not a single neon light in that video.

great video

I like this version
i love this song
best cover ever .
I like Adam's bass lines in the chorus :)
I feel rather sympathy for BONO.
If I were a musician, I also could not keep myself from covering this beautiful song.
One got ones right 2 speak anything. FREE SPEECH zindabaad.
but out of all the covers....this is the best though
"U2 is known for being big 20 years ago"
Wait...what? U2 sold like 22 million copies of their last two albums.
As much as I like Kraftwerk better than U2, they did a good job on this cover :)
no, the original is the kraftwerk, and if there were original, and therefore would not have covers (and that of U2 is comparable to Kraftwerk)
The best version is of SIMPLE MINDS!!!!
I really like this song although I think that Bono's voice is not the best on this song. Anyway, great video!!!
Hutter Flur Schneider Bartos.
Freindchip.

@rdproductions01 I think they both did.
omd/simple minds and u2 covered this song
KRAFTWERK!
U2 bows down to themselves?
Very nice version! :)
But Kraftwerk FOREVER!
It was great before Bono started to sing

Beside the cover: lovely video, very good in the background of the song.
The German Original simply is still the best.
Herzliche Grüße aus Deutschland
yeah, the dararara isn't good as well. i prefer 'in the name of love'
This video would be better for a video called "fireworks" not one called "neon lights"
I like Simple Minds more than U2, but U2's cover of this song is much better.
All Kraftwerk sounds better in the original German.
kraftwerk > U2
Thumbs up if you think this OBLITERATES the original!
Simple minds version much better more atmospheric

indeed... this is the WORST song of U2 ever. KRAFTWERK RULES!
This song is so repetitive! horrible.
U2 doing Kraftwerk? I thought it was a joke. I was right - it is a joke! One of the worst cover versions ever by anybody at any time.
Kraftwerk are horrible... So is Johann Pachelbel and Bach. In fact they sound so repetitive, right? That sucks! Amateurs.
You're both a troll and a jerk. Congrats.
