"Take On Me" is a song by Norwegian synth-pop band A-ha. The original version was produced by Tony Mansfield and remixed by John Ratcliff. The 1985 version was produced by Alan Tarney for the group's debut studio album, Hunting High and Low (1985). The song combines synth-pop with a varied instrumentation, including acoustic guitars, keyboards, and drums.
"Career Opportunities" is a 1991 American romantic comedy film starring Frank Whaley in his first lead role and co-starring Jennifer Connelly. It was written and co-produced by John Hughes and directed by Bryan Gordon. In the film, Whaley plays Jim Dodge, a persuasive but irresponsible kid who lands a job as an overnight janitor at a local Target store. One evening after hours, he finds himself alone with the affluent but mistreated Josie McClellan (Connelly).
Hughes chose Bryan Gordon to direct his screenplay after he was impressed with one of Gordon's short films. The movie was shot at a Target store located outside Atlanta. The film grossed $11 million at the box office, and received mostly mixed reviews from critics. Hughes distanced himself from the film.

I don’t know about magical, and you may get some argument on the quality of movies from that era. I certainly understand and appreciate the sentiment though. I graduated high school in 1986, and still remember bits and pieces of the decade. There was some great music, no matter what genre you enjoyed. There were some really enjoyable movies because they did capture the overall tone of the time well, but not many of them were in the running for an Oscar. I got my ear pierced after watching The Breakfast Club at the theater. A group of girls I knew were pretty excited about me getting an earring, and I didn’t have the capacity at the time to tell them no. I thought my Mom was going to kill me! I agree with you about it being a seemingly innocent period of time, however I think at least part of that perception is nostalgia. I have heard similar things from just about every age group and time period. If it is just nostalgia, it was still an enjoyable time.
Jennifer Connelly, as she was in this movie, is one of those rare women that you realize your mouth was actually open in awe watching her, and then you had to remind yourself to close it.

Watching 80’s movies is bitter sweet now . Watching my youth fadeaway over the years. Life had meaning then now it’s meaningless, days pass away like blank pages in a book fluttering away. All that felt good is gone now and I am left in this vapid existence grinding away for a paycheck to buy things that are as vapid. I look at my parents and despair at what is left of the future as my body further degrades and my friends grow more distant. I grow more jealous of those who die in their prime. I sometimes wish I had too. My wife and my dogs are the only thing that bring any meaning. I wonder sometimes what would happen if they were taken away from me.
There will be some meaning in your life that'll is there... You may have to find and wait for the opportunity... God bless you and your family
