    I never understood why the mages AI makes them run closer to the enemies. Their L-range for a reason 😅

      I just started playing this. I set my mage AI to long range yet they still insist on trying to throw hands smh

      @@aeroga2383 usually happens when the enemies are near them or they ran out of TP
      The AI kinda doesn’t understand the concept of repositioning

      I think what happens is that because the positioning for front and back line is on one axis, in this instance Llyod running away shifted the back line to the right making Raine's AI dash over there. The fight with the dragon in the platform is especially bad for this because back line stands in the middle were the tremor damage is. 😂

      @@aeroga2383 Sometimes I put them on the setting that only allows them to use skills and magic. No regular attacks.

    Not to mention the fact they always pause and just kinda sit there and think between attacks, and run back and forth at random.

    The only way to stop this is to set Raine to "hold position", which will make her stay where she is and do nothing. The drawback is that you will have to order her to heal manually with shortcuts.

      Better yet order her to kn the L-range magic position. , not perfect but she wont run that close usually and still casts by herself

    Imma be setting Raine to etay L.Range but she still does this..
    This game aint even hard half of the damn challenge comes from trying not to make the AI kill themselves

      yeah. Later on, I decided to just set a tech shortcut to Raine's aoe heal, move her as far from the boss, then switch back to Lloyd and continue to spam her aoe heal. So she is always casting and not moving. I don't care if we are full health, she is just going to keep casting healing lol

    If the ai isnt visible on the screen, they will move forward to be seen on the screen after casting an arte, even if they are set to hold position. braindead design and why some mania fights are easier to just solo

    At first i was like "Hmm'kay Kratos used Shining Bind for nothing" and then Sheena Raine ran towards him 💀💀.
    For real tho, the AI in Symphonia is not at fault IMO, it's just that the formation system is not very well done, and thus whenever the player (you) uses a front liner (like Lloyd), the backline AI allies follow him to recover the formation.
    This problem was perfectly avoided in Phantasia X (and never again) with the strategy command "STAY" = allies memorize their position when you press [L] + [Down] in combat and stop following the player's placement.

      Tales of Symphonia had strategies can set for AI characters. I am pretty sure I had Raine set as long range in her strats and yet she constantly goes up to enemies like this. I eventually started just spamming heals just to stop her from moving even if I was fully healed.

    I'd say this isn't the AI's fault. But the games fault for not stopping AI control during mystic artes. But allow you to move before the mystic arte actually initiates. Lucky abyss came out and fixed this.

      I don't blame Sheena's AI. She is set to attack so kind of expected. But Raine's AI. oh boy

      I never liked that that the game took away your controlle when a Mystic Art triggers. It always forced me to use Arts like Tempest to bait the Mystic Arts out of my opponents.

    Only when out of TP makes the mages run closer to enemies.... that being said, why in the actual hell we see Genis and Raine always with TP enough to cast some useful spells and run full speed against a One shot ability

      they also run closer after being told to use an arte. i believe this is to make setting up combos easier for characters with level 1-3 tech, but for casters it just puts them in harm's way.

    Since you playin hard or mania mod (Kratos doesn’t use mystic arte in normal) you should use strategy to counter this, when a mystic arte is launched change the strategy for one where everyone just stop moving

      I am probably playing on Hard. Don't remember if Mania is unlocked by default. This was years ago. That is honestly a smart thing to do, but just sucks having to go into the menu just to set that then setting it back right after the mystic arte finishes.

      Agreed. Though they avoided this specific issue by making enemies Mystic Arte just hit the whole arena or single target guaranteed depending on the boss in my opinion lol

    This crap happens in games nowadays. It's embarrassing.
    2 examples. Aerith in FFVII R and Prompto in FF XV (aerith is a special case too because for some retarded reason she moves forward when she attacks -_-. like devs, do you even play the games you make?!)
    every game with AI allies need AI customization so you can force a character to NEVER be in melee range

    You just need to set the strategy for each member better than you have it. Are they all on Move Freely?

      I am sure I set Raine as Reduce, Support, and L-range magic, so no reason for her to move in closely. This is a long time ago so can't really remember for sure. Sheena I can understand getting hit since she is set as melee, but Raine has no reason to walk that far towards Kratos when set as L-range at least.

    Oh yes they are!
    For whatever reason, even if you limit them to use only heal and long range skills, they still wanna trying to hit the enemy with melee even though their tp is still sufficient.
    I eventually just get used to it and try to argo the boss alone

    its not only the ai its also other character then lloyd they are made so clunky and slow and yes never understand the ai they need some time then run to enemy and then they run away and stay a while

    Everybody trying to defend the AI hasnt played on Mania and didnt do Niflheim nor Abyssion.
    Hell most of the game is easier Solo or with just 1 Friend backing you up.
    i LOVE ToS but people face it. The AI is utter trash.

    I Wish We put them in garrys Mod to be NPC on Next bots AI Just like Hulk and SpongeBob and Others and TF2 Bots and I was Dreaming about it, If they dies the players will Revive the Bots with Life Bottle, and here we go it Called Tales of symphonia Nextbots Snpc

    This is why I hate action RPGs because my ally ai always runs straight at attacks. Rogue galaxy was bad too. The only one that didn't was star ocean.
