Old Rasp Restoration

- I just started getting old tools from fleamarkets an restoring them.
Those rasps were less than 3$ and will make a nice addition to my workshop. The rust is removed with electrolysis and later sharpened with sulfuric acid.
The video style is heavily inspired by makers like Handtool rescue, Jimmy Diresta or Blackbeard project.
Everything is cut and colorized in Davinci Resolve. For filming I used a Canon Eos-M with a kit lens. - Хобби
Very nice!
Very smart to do the electrolysis to get the rust of them before the sharpening - I hear those paprica rasps rust a lot when used 🤣.
Great job - ten thumbs up! (that is all the thumbs I have got 😊).
Thanks - 'Really beautiful job. I'm going to really enjoy restoring my rasps, feeling that new-rasp bite again. =)
And I'd never thought of putting a wire brush wheel onto my drill press - thanks for that too. =)
Thank you for the feedback and compliment. Comments like this make the work worthwhile.
@@NerdInventor Your video, and this other one about restoring a file, made my day. 'Can't wait to try these restorations. =) ruclips.net/video/3WwpNMnZZEE/видео.html
👍 I mix my bees wax in equal parts with linseed oil and turpentine 😉
I will definitly do that. It´s on my never ending to do list of projects! ;)
I use it on all my wood tool handles etc 👍
Good mixture! I use the same as a last finish on oiled funiture. The best thing about it is, that you can use old candels for this :)
Your double-speed video works well to get through longer boring portions of the work, but not at all for when you are doing things like showing the files in closeup to the camera while moving them or rotating them. Might as well not even show the closeups at all at that speed, since you can't really see the details of the surface of the files because they never stop moving.
Neutralization of the acid in a baking soda must be for about 1 hour.
Just rinsing the metal in a baking soda is not long enough to completely neutralize such a strong acid as HCL.
Thanks for your concern. The HCL was very low concentrated / heavily diluted. I did check the rasps afterwards and there was no further reaction.
I should try that sharpening method one day.
Also did you realize you switched the handle :P ?
Haha! You are the first one to realize this! Indeed I decided to switch the handles. I use the half rounded rasp more often but liked the other handle better.
