  • Can I make a great home for my lizard out of garbage?
    Raylan, my Schneider's skink has been with me for about 10 months now (I mention 6 months in the video, but that's because this video was started in the fall), and is overdue for an upgraded enclosure with more height. I decided to make this new home out of as much discarded, recycled or upcycled material as possible. Check out the new lizard home made out of GARBAGE!

    Your move, Serpa... 😅 i'm kidding of course...kinda. This is an excellent enclosure!! Really beautiful, naturalistic, and i love the idea of recycle/upcycle/garbage as a "theme" ... that skink is adorable too! i'm sure he will be happy in there for years to come 🥰

    20:56 Not only did you do an excellent job with the setup, you even went the extra step to use recycled or used material when possible. 👏🏾

    Someone threw that away? I wonder what was housed in it? Maybe a really big harry Tarantula.

      Not sure. Based on the bit of sand left in, something needing an arid set up, probably.

    Awesome enclosure and dumb question is Raylan named after Raylan Givens from Justified? Also, if so, please keep all firearms away from him at all times... But it would stand to reason because wherever Raylan goes chaos will follow.

    • @AllCanadianReptileGirl
      @AllCanadianReptileGirl  8 месяцев назад +1

      He is! I named him that because I thought he'd look good in a cowboy hat. Turns out, his chaos matches TV Raylan too!

  • @OctoBud
    @OctoBud 8 месяцев назад

    Do you not worry about him falling from heights? My Schneider skink is in an exo terra 90cm high and was actually planning to move her into lower enclousre (move ground as its a 4ft). She also loves to climb and isn't great at it and I worry about her falling onto rocks from that height

    • @AllCanadianReptileGirl
      @AllCanadianReptileGirl  8 месяцев назад +2

      I sure do! That's why I put in the criss-crossing branches. Between those and the ledges and high plants there's not really anywhere high he can fall from without being able to catch himself or cushion his inevitable and (I'm almost certain) frequent falls!

  • @IkeAboutReptiles

    Wow! Lucky You! How much did the whole setup cost?! ❤❤❤

    • @AllCanadianReptileGirl
      @AllCanadianReptileGirl  8 месяцев назад

      Not including the UVB lights, UVB/Heat bulb, plants and substrate (I already had that on hand), about $120-$160 for the actual build. That includes LED strip lights for the general lighting/plants that I didn't talk about in the video.

  • @LavastormSW
    @LavastormSW 8 месяцев назад

    How did you secure the branches to the sides of the tank? Is it all just spray foam? I always worry about how to secure big branches like that to glass.

    • @AllCanadianReptileGirl
      @AllCanadianReptileGirl  8 месяцев назад +2

      There's some extra spray foam on the underside to help support them. That would have probably been sufficient, the foam on the sides is quite thick, but just to be on the safe side, one of the branches actually anchors to the other side with a little dowel (covered by the grout). Another is anchored to the top with a bit of wire strung through a hole drilled in the tip. The lower cork branches are pretty light and don't need extra support.

    • @LavastormSW
      @LavastormSW 8 месяцев назад

      @@AllCanadianReptileGirlThank you! With the grout sealing, do you seal the entire surface of the grout or just around the edges?

    • @AllCanadianReptileGirl
      @AllCanadianReptileGirl  8 месяцев назад

      @@LavastormSW It's the entire surface that needs to be sealed.
