  • In this episode we take you into Parachilna Gorge on the edge of the Flinders Ranges before tackling the Oodnadatta track from Maree to William Creek and on to Coober Pedy, 370km of dirt and corrugations that puts the car and the van to the test.
    We don't quite get away unscathed, watch and see for yourselves...

    Agree we found that road bad when we went through in August last year, but they’ve had a lot more rain since we went through. Can’t believe you got that much damage. 😳

      Yeh should of dropped tyres some more.
      Nothing broke which is good, looked worse then it was. Just put it all back together once we got to coober pedy.
      Have since learnt our lesson and not encountered issues since so think we got it sorted now 👌🏻

    Great video. My wife and I did the Oodnadatta track . We started from Coober Pedy to Oodnadatta. Down to William Creek to Marree, then down the Bore field red to Woomera. No Damage to our cruiser or caravan. The Borefield road was the worst. Only damage was the dust getting into the van. We also carried on back to WA along the great central road, boy was that an adventure. Would do it all again in a heart beat. Thanks for sharing your video.

    Wow! What an adventure! I did the track about 30years ago in a small 4x4 and about do it again in about 4weeks this time with a caravan. I think I might add some tape to keep things in place!

    Hi Guy's, thanx for showing us your trip your doing a fantastic job and keep it up. GO the 100 SERIES, did you have any damage to the front of your van from the rocks, im doing the Oodnadatta next August in a new van and was worried about the rocks coming up and hitting the front of the van we have a stone Guard on the Chassis, I was thinking for getting a Rock Stomper or will it be a waist of money. I also agree with some of the other comments about your Tyre pressures i would have reduced them to about 25PSI, our Van is a Tourer and has Leaf springs with a roller rocker and will drive to the conditions. Any advice you would give, we will be going from Williams creek to Oodnadatta the down to Coober Pedy.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  3 года назад

      Hey mate, thanks for the support.
      Yup have since learnt my lesson.
      Just took the van to the top of cape york and back 25psi all round and no damage to report!
      We havent received any rock damage to the front of the van at all, mind you i think each setup would be different, distance from car tyres to rear of car, descent angles etc. so rock stomper probably woudnt be a waste of money.
      In regards to tips not really as we didnt go north of William Creek sorry. Once in Coober Pedy though the freecamp next to the old timers mine is a decent spot to stay

    I believe part of your problem with things breaking was you still had your tyres inflated too high. I run a 3.3t van behind a twin cab Ute and run 25psi all round but 28psi in the rear of the Ute because of the weight I carry. We are 6t gum. Never had anything come loose in the van. It has been through the flinders ranges and up the Birdsville track. Have also towed up the Oodnadatta, strezlecki, and in the gulf using the same pressures. Never had an issue. Hope this helps.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  3 года назад

      That is 100% what my downfall was, complacency really.
      My rule of thumb has been drop 10 whenever we hit dirt then reassess and drop further depending on the road, i didnt drop further. But you live and learn and i have learnt from that. Thanks for the reccomendations though, i wasnt sure i could drop van tyres down to 25 safely, 30 was going to be my next step.
      Thanks

      @@Ourwhittleadventure they should be light truck rated, if not it’s not an issue just have to drive more carefully. Keep your speed at 80klm or below and they will be fine. The faster you travel the hotter they will get. An easy guide is when you stop for a break put your hand on the sidewall, NOT the tread. If you can’t hold your hand on t to he tyre you are travelling too fast for the pressure you are running. They will get warm, this is normal but very high heat is bad.
      Enjoy your travels it’s such a beautiful part of the country in the outback. Will watch your videos with envy.

    Hey guys ,if you leave the shower door off can you show what you replace it with and how you do it. We have a similar van so keen to see what you do.You seem to run high pressures on the car ,what type of tyres are on the 100 series.Keep up the videos ,you do a good job ,regards Rodney

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  3 года назад

      Hey mate, we sure can. Its just going to be a shower curtain for now, will look at the glideaway doors.
      On the car are BFgoodies AT.
      Those pressures are a recommendation from the team at bob janes and it seems to work well. Im at 70k kms on the car ones so far so its good wear.
      I should have dropped more on the dirt though, you live and learn.

  • @colleenhatzimanolis5196

    Just wondering what your tyre pressures were and what speed were you travelling at down that track?
    I would be having a very serious talk to the caravan manufacturer about the way they tighten their screws up.

    • @Ourwhittleadventure
      @Ourwhittleadventure  3 года назад

      40psi still and speed changed to suit. I should of dropped pressures again, as just a combination of things in that arvo that i just got flustered and continued to push.
      We have lived in this van for 8 months and have done plenty of dirt roads so i dont think it was manufacturing issues, just a constant vibration for 370kms.
      Table screws face down so they made sense, the fridge popped off the hinge, and light fitting you couldnt do much about.
      We love how our van handled what we put it through and still praise the manufacturer and their build quality
