Rhizomes definitely do look like otherworldly lifeforms. 🌱

Hi. My small Saracenia were growing great indoors in a glass container, with small gravel bottom, a layer of spagnam moss, a layer of peat, & another layer of spagnum moss. All was ok, divided them a few times, but last year all the green part died back during end of summer? I left it, but no growth at all, so in winter, I removed the 2 rhizomes & there are long roots, so repotted them, hoping? It's still winter here in Northern Ireland, & plants in a cold room. Plants are always indoors. Many thanks. Pete.

1:58 that planter is barely big enough ^^ I would go for a bigger one

In our experience we don’t like to uppot the plants too much but you can use larger planters if you like 😊

Whenever someone repots a sarracenia do they always need to cut all the pitchers? Or do you just do that for ease of shipment? Lol

It’s way easier to work with them if you cut them back and generally we repot in winter, when they’re dormant and all cut back. For the bare root sale, we’re dividing giant plants so we have to cut them all back to divide them!

Can you only repot a pitcher in the winter? Is it possible to repot in spring/summer or will that stress the plant too much and kill them? Can you repot in the spring/summer so long as you don’t bareroot the plant

You can repot any time as long as you’re careful with the roots. You may lose a few pitchers if you do it in summer but they’re tough plants and can usually take it!

Any drawback to using a larger pot?
You said, "You don't want to go crazy big." I'm in NC and concerned about side freeze. I was looking at putting my forthcoming Sarr in a good sized pot: to limit the possibility of side freeze but also to not have to repot and disturb him for a few seasons.
    Thank you ❤️

You can pot it into a larger pot and just expect that it will spend a little more time adjusting to the pot - any plant potted into a very large pot will spend a little while making roots or stolons to fill it up instead of making leaves. So just expect it to take a while to make lots of pitchers to fill up the pot

Once my Sarracenia go dormant, I was planning on repotting. Is it better to take it and its soil mixture out together and repot it in a hole in the soil of a larger pot **or** wash the root clean and pot as you just did in the video?
Also, what do you do if roots are also on the top of the rhizome (like the one you were holding after you repotted the small one)? Do you bury that end lower OR bury normal and leave the roots in the air?
    Thanks for the informative videos!

I haven't done this myself but I assume its better to wash the roots when changing into a new type of potting medium or to clean away old roots that have died out & clumped up. Just my guess, but I'd like to know a definite answer as well.

We like to clean off all the soil and make sure there are no pests like root mealy bug or rot and start with totally fresh and clean plants. You can lightly bury the ends with roots on top or tuck the roots in the soil but leave the top, where they join the rhizome a bit more exposed!
