- This is the first build video for the 9' 8' x 22.75" longboard. In this video I go over my ideas for the design and trace out the template. If you want to know all the steps for how to make a surfboard check out some of the other build series I have done below. I've finished this surfboard and getting around to editing the videos now. More to come.
Here is where I placed the order for the surf supplies and they provided the blank to me free of charge for this build (affiliate link):

Why did you mark the outline on the deck , opposed to the bottom ?
Good point, no real reason, I think typically you are supposed to trace on the bottom but I've traced the top and bottom before. Might be because if you are using a wooden template it's easier to bend it on the bottom of the board. Thanks for pointing that out.
Vee is great in tail section! Just make sure you look at a proper board n use straight edge as you check n shape in vee! It's taking me 7 year's to finally nail surfboard shaping, and I'm still learning something new!
I’ve been waiting for this since you unpacked it. Just finished making a 9’3” for my first board. I love about an hour south of where Greenlight is so I was able to drive and get my blank. Great company that gave great advice. Looking forward to this series.
very impressed with your videos, where did you learn making surfboards?
Plz man can i ask u this....
I made gaps durring hot wire cutting... Can i fil them with foam peaces and glue them?
Great video(s) Andrew. You've inspired some buddies and I to make boards with our sons. I am about to get to work on my first shaping experiment. I am quite a bit heavier (200+) advanced beginner surfer and am looking to make a good all around board that will catch waves easily in sometimes mushy Oregon surf. My goals align pretty well with what you are shooting for in this board. I wanted a shorter board that was easier to transport in my van so I am starting with a Marko 8'5" Universal thick blank that maxes out at about 3.7". I am debating how much if any of that extra thickness to remove. It seems like the extra thickness will add buoyancy that will help with wave catching. What, if any, is the downside to having the extra thickness?
Your board building videos have inspired me to start my own board building company! It’ll be mostly SUP’s and Wake Surf, since I live in the middle of the US, but the concept is the same. Thank you for such great content.
Looking forward to this build !! Thanks Andrew. I also just wanna add how cool and helpful GreenLight supply’s guys have been for me and all my questions !! Haha.
Hi Andrew, can you tell me pleas what’s the name of the program you’ve mentioned to descaile dimension of the board from picture. Thx for all your videos, all of theam are great!!!
thank you senior for the tutorial I really like learning and want to make a boat from cork for fishing in the sea
Been looking all over for good shaping videos for beginners. Subscribed!
You should build a sport board with the cheapest epoxy "table top?? And home depot foam and see how it hold up in the sun and water !!! Cool challenge
Always wanted to shape my own board. Just don't have the space to do it. As always nice work.
Great job on making boards! Defiantly going to make one soon😁 I just subscribed😄
Again with the boards, I've seen every single video since you began making the first tutorial and by looking at it now that's honestly the most in-depth tutorial of this kind. Thank you man for the content.
Brilliant can’t wait for the next one ☝️
Cool!!
Do a small fish twin fin for a big guy.
Working on a fish board that will be more like a vlog style video :)
