For anyone watching, She is an amazing lady. She is the widow if my Grandmothers cousin Emerson, so she is family and is very sweet and she really is as you see her. Boy can she cook and her pies are amazing. My wife and daughters adore her She lives near Molalla Oregon about 45 minuets north of Salem and is kind to everyone
This was amazing! What a great person. I laughed as she peaked out the door to ask if the crew wanted some tomatoes to take with them! Makes me miss my grandmothers.
I've watched this beautiful lady before, she's Awesome! Watching again in a pandemic 2020 because I need to re-learn her kitchen skills. God bless you Clara and your beautiful family and friends!! You're a life saver!! ❤
Virginia is wonderful! I know there are folks like her still out there, but they aren't growing on trees. And that's one of my favorite parts too - making sure we don't go home empty handed. =)
Nearly a lost art for sure. People watch a video like this and see all of the gorgeous produce and beautiful farm animals but may not think about the incredible amount of time and hard work it takes to build and maintain even a small farm. These folks work HARD for what they get from their farms!
I really enjoyed this video. More so because we could hear what that wonderful lady was saying at her pace. Making for a very relaxing enjoyable watch. You can almost hear her saying, "What else is a garden for, if you don't grow veg and fruit".
I stopped half way through to comment on how correct you are about food being a lost art and parents of later generations not knowing about traditionalists. AMAZING video and very inspiring. Thank you.
thanks for all your comments, peaveysp2g! I have more DIY food videos coming along shortly; but it's not every day you meet someone like Virginia who continues to live life, grow food and put it up, much as she did in years past. Refreshing and inspiring. =)
Yes, but it doesn't work. When you check the bag even 10 minutes later there will be air inside. Most people think air gets in through the seal, but in reality that is not true. The air comes in right through the plastic itself.
I know, right? I never thought of doing that before, but when I saw her do it, it made so much sense. Always nuggets of experience and wisdom to learn from other. =)
I recently read, several times actually, a 1959 book called "Alas Babylon" by Pat Frank. It is about a group of people, and one family in particular, living in a small town in central Florida, who survive a nuclear exchange between the US and the Soviet Union. The story is about how they had to cope with the loss of "modern" convenience by reverting to an agrarian society. The story is still relevant today, though a bit overly patriarchal, and it has become one of my favorite books.
I'd totally live with her and take care of that farm!! At 22 years old a lot of people my age are either too stuck up or plain stupid to realize that this is truly the best way of life.
soldier person one time i went out to eat with my sister and grandma and we were so full and when we came home she literally asked us if we wanted dessert 😂
I so want a root cellar. I WILL get one no matter what my husband says.... This is a wonderful video. I love the old way of doing things, and this may be the only way to do things in the near future. People do not realize how close we are to the edge, and I feel sorry for them. I for one am trying to be more self selfsuficient, but family is so not with me. Thank you for your vids, they help. Bev
She is amazing! Reminds me so much of my own Gran. Looks like she doesn't live too far from my and mine wonder if she would trade some work around he farm for canning lessons and a few cutting from her fruit trees. Know My girls would love it.

there aint young farmers taking the way of life, soon US gonna have to start exporting majority of their food from outside of the country. you need to feed your people, other countries gonna name the price.

I really miss my grandparents and other elderly people that were in my life; I’ll always appreciate and remember their wisdom and kindness
This video makes me very sad for this lady, I feel terrible she lost her husband, but I'm glad to see she's very active and knowledgeable.
I've watched this beautiful lady before, she's Awesome! Watching again in a pandemic 2020 because I need to re-learn her kitchen skills. God bless you Clara and your beautiful family and friends!! You're a life saver!! ❤
Pretty amazing to see that people still live this way! I am totally jealous of her cellar HOLY MOLY!
yes, it's amazing what she is still able to 'put-up'!
It doesn't take a celler full like this lady, it just learning and applying 1 jar at a time
I could sit all day listening to this lady. Reminds me of of my grandma.
Virginia is wonderful! I know there are folks like her still out there, but they aren't growing on trees.
And that's one of my favorite parts too - making sure we don't go home empty handed. =)
Virginia thank you for inviting us into your beautiful home. I am so inspired and grateful.
I want to be just like her in my old age!!
It's time for a return to the old ways, I intend to restart the practice in my own life.
Nearly a lost art for sure. People watch a video like this and see all of the gorgeous produce and beautiful farm animals but may not think about the incredible amount of time and hard work it takes to build and maintain even a small farm. These folks work HARD for what they get from their farms!
Oh yea its hard, but its so rewarding

That generation was so strong and had grit in them.

I love this lady. I hope she is well.
What a great lady, you can tell she was hardworking & smart living off farm.
I know, right? I never thought of doing that before, but when I saw her do it, it made so much sense. Always nuggets of experience and wisdom to learn from other. =)

Thank you, for sharing my grandmother and her story. Is there a DVD of this available? I would love to have it including the edited out footage?

Please keep producing these videos.

Agreed, Virginia is a sweetheart!
Thanks mum
I want to live at her house! I grew up doing these things and miss it so much. Wanting to much to buy a farm house back in Ohio.
It's satisfying growing and putting up your own food. If you can't get back right away, maybe do something on a smaller level where you are?
I wish she make canning & freezing & preserving tutorials. I want to learn from her so bad.
that is awesome makes me wish i could be on her farm and help her out and learn all i could from her!!!!
Bless her. Lovely video

Nice lady.
I didnt catch where she is from. Im looking for a location where I can do exactly what she has done. My own homestead and/or working on someone else's. I live in northeast oklahoma.
Have you looked in your area? I'm sure there are farms and/or homesteads that could use an extra pair of hands.
ya..but it's tough to find...google doesn't seem the best way to find something....maybe just word of mouth?
there's a forum over at homesteadingtoday [dot] com, or ask around. I'm sure there's something out there for you. good luck!
at first i was like it would be hard to kill the chickens. like that pretty savage. but at the same time, im not gonna starve.

I saw this error in your introduction..hmm!

not "sure what... you just said..". but i like your prof"ile picture..."
There was a time when women took pride in being a wife and the husband loved to have a wife like her. There is nothing wrong with being a wife.
