    It's great to see that somewhere in the world there are serious consequences for illegal activities and that people aren't getting off with technicalities! In addition it's great to see officers eager to do the work they were hired for. This is often not the case in North America from what I've observed.

    Thanks to the fisheries officers.
    My issue remains with the fines/sentencing....
    Paua poaching is worth tens of millions but the fines are laughable and this must change!

    People who are on government welfare shouldn't have to pay fine. Because the money they pay comes from tax payers so essentially they are paying a fine with someone else's money.
    They should be sent to prison instead.

      Prison isn't a sentence, it's retirement.
      Concrete floors, and a bucket is the penalty

      @@beachforestmountain4269 Commonly known as Abalone in Australia and the U.S. In the U.K. there are only 20 days in a year were you are allowed to harvest them.
