  • Wow!! What a feeling to hear it fire up for the first time. A huge relief.
When I first checked the compression, the engine hadn't run in years and #3 cylinder showed low compression (about 60psi). After this video was finished, I rechecked the compression and all cylinders are showing 150psi (165 static at sea level so this is expected since I'm at 5000' DA).
It runs, there's oil pressure and most of the major systems (cooling, electrical, fuel, etc) seem to be working. Obviously, the carbs have not been properly synchronized and the engine is definitely missing somewhere.
(EDIT: 9/9/23 Turns out the starting circuits (starter jet and start path) for carbs 1 & 2 were still blocked even after an hour in the ultrasonic cleaner. I removed the carbs and cleaned them again paying particular attention to the start jet and the brass start tube. New parts are on order for the detailed carb rebuild later. After reinstalling the carbs again, the bike fired right up and ran very smooth. I synchronized the carbs and got the idle set. I'll post new videos soon).
Getting to this stage will allow me to continue with the general servicing of the bike so that I tear it apart, I'll know what needs the most attention.
I may not show it in the video, but I'm pretty happy with this!
