This woman had to be through absolute hell to write songs so expressive and to sing with so much feeling. I've been in awe of her talent since I first heard her voice
revisting this song after years....... WOW! honestly, can't really wrap my head around her being 14-17 when they were writing the light me up album and this ep. i've been a fan of taylor for years & this song really puts into perspective of her childhood career and why she quit acting as soon as she was a legal adult. she was working nonstop since she was two..... TWO! doing commercials and modeling. it must've not been easy booking a major role at 7 and then not booking anything major until gossip girl when she was 14 (and now in light that there was a lot of drama/favoritism on set, her music not being played until the very last episode, her being younger than the cast, etc). nonetheless, playing a character who was disliked/unpopular and having to get through all that hate while she was experimenting with her look like any normal teen would.... back then, her rock image came at such a shock.... but now, it doesn't really seem that surprising that she became so rebellious at the time. she never got to be a kid, and if she continued acting & kept her clean look for other jobs, then she probably would've never been. she got a lot of flack when she said she wasn't returning to GG (and ppl telling her they wouldn't miss her anyway was just mean). she got ridiculed for her "raccoon" eyes, and how she was ruining her beautiful face. her stage attire had people calling her cringey for trying to be sexy (as if they weren't sexualizing her already as a teen that looks older). honestly, music looks like it was both her excuse to leave acting behind and an escape from that world. now past all the makeup and everything, she definitely seems more relax and free. i mean, i don't think her being awkward yet intimidatingly beautiful is ever gonna make people stop thinking she's being unintentionally rude lol. but now that she's gotten older as well, there's more confidence in herself after quitting acting for good. i hope she stays that way. idk but i hope when people talk about her from now on, she won't be just "some girl who left a good acting career and turned goth," but instead is seen as someone who chose their own happiness and has found peace within that path.
I listened to this when I was about 14/15 and related to these lyrics massively, I’m now 23 and still feel the exact same way, if not I relate a whole lot more.
When you are forced into being an actor and model (having not learnt how to speak yet to give consent) I can imagine all sorts of fucked up shit happens between there and adulthood
I always viewed Under The Water & Dear Sister as a bridge. One musical piece connecting on another separated by years apart yet where Taylor beautifully and tragically illustrates and binds her childhood and family trauma together. With Under The Water she sings from the perspective of a young child at how she had no consent in how she began in life. And how when she later felt estranged and somewhat abandoned from her own parents in how they only viewed her as a commodity "excuse me Sir, am I your daughter? won't you take me back, take me back and see?" & "and if I cried unto my mother no she wasn't there she wasn't there for me". Later with Dear Sister she sings about her emancipation at 16 to her then 13 year old sister when in retrospect how could any 13 possibly understand the implications of such an act. Only to her, Taylor seems to be leaving the family home forever and she's hurt and confused as to why. But in the lyrics Taylor poetically tells her side to the story "Dear Sister can you help me lie? i’ve told the truth so many years but no one seems to wanna hear that I’m not someone else inside" Sister, can you help me to continue this lie? because im about to break. I've been trying to break free and find myself for years but nobody understands. This right now, is not who I truly am. "I’ve been along this lonely road looks like i’m not coming home but I don’t mind please don't cry" This Hollywood industry is a lonely road in which im breaking away from thus, I am with the family home. But i'll be alright, it's what I need right now something I can decide for myself for once. So please don't cry cause you're breaking my heart. Taylor can create such beautiful poetry out of the saddest of circumstances. That is the definition of art.
This is the only song I found that sang my childhood. Much love to you Miss Munson. I lived it too, love and when I have dark days I come to hear you sing our truth. Live strong dear!
@@GoodFunVideos@GoodFunVideos ok believe what you want to, its just my opinion. she's talks more than she sings, she's not that good of a song writer. example hello kitty like hello your going to right a song to thank your fans of a certain country for support and you put that trash on a album sorry no respect. Her song tomorrow boring pointing out the obvious yeah tomorrow is a different day not clever. Im sorry but her voices was never there even for her age at she time she was signed. been there 18 years only put out about 6 albums, Barlow girls not there haft as long they decide they had a different calling they put out a album almost every year. when she sings on stage she sounds like some one singing to the radio. Im sorry but to be there so long she just nothing. I know you probably don't give a crap but I just thought I would explain. again just my opinion which is my right. say and call me what ever you like I still stick to my opinion, have a wonderful life. ps. was not tying to be cute I don't do cute. I just cant stand her so I sorry but I saw her name and just had to state my opinion, it just me.
Let me explain something for you kids. when you say Taylor is underrated, or equivalently, how overrated another artist is, you are only talking about how often you have seen those artists promoted. Neither of these artists are sitting there counting how many of you "omg ur the best" for them, it's not the quantity of fans it's the quality that counts, getting my vote for example means something, the bikini babe rent a crowd in swimming pool for morning television Jonas brothers promo means 0.
Sums up my life right now. Hopefully I go to college next year and get my degree and move away to get away from my family that hates me, and find my calmer seas.
We all hope you did. Might check in here and give us a progress report, if you wanted to? We want you to be strong, successful, and happy -- and on your own terms.
Me: I love This song definitely my favorite Pretty Reckless Song!! Me listing to another Pretty Reckless song. I love this song!! Definitely my favorite song by Pretty Reckless!! Lol
i discovered this song when i was young, and now that i'm able to understand, it breaks my heart even more, i came here once in a while to heart this cuz i just love this
i liked pretty reckless but after this song i really love Taylor!!such a great voice,so beautiful lyrics,so deep meaning...it makes me wanna cry for no reason
ive done some crazy terrible stuff to myself in my youth and survived by some miracle but i listen to music like this and some how it perks me up and dont go three
I have no idea why this song ALWAYS makes me think of Sons of Anarchy... But it does literally every single time I listen to it. Such an awesome, beautiful song
That is an amazing story. Music really can save lives. Listening to " In My Darkest Hour " by Megadeth helped me out of a relationship that damn near killed me... Rock on, brother!!!
I always cried when I used to listen this song...and now I am listening again after few years and I am not crying beacause I was saved by Jesus and Rock 'n' roll. People will disapoint you but God will always be there.
My favourite TPR song. I can't fathom how much I can relate to it. And the tune is just addictive. Not to mention her stunning voice. Plus the excellent screaming!
Broken lines across my mirror Show my face all red and bruised And though I scream and I screamed Well no one came running No I wasn't saved I wasn't saved from you Don't let me drown don't let me drown in the waves I could be found I could be what you have saved Lay my head under the water Lord I pray for calmities And when I wake from this dream with chains all around me no I've never been free
This is the most beautiful song I have heard from the pretty reckless. The lyrics are just beautiful and painfull. It's something others can relate to..
"Broken lines across my mirrorShow my face all red and bruisedAnd though I scream and I screamedWell no one came runningNo I wasn't savedI wasn't saved from you" this part really fucking hits home for me.
I agree that this is an amazing song and Taylor Momsen has an absolutely gorgeous voice but the band* must of gone through absolute hell to write the songs. Don't forget about the other hard working members :)

Me too! Found this band around ages 13/14 and I relate to everything you say.
Girl same, 14 and im 23 this year and just remembered this song 😅
"And if i cried unto my mother no she wasn't there she wasn't there for me" gets me every time ... :/

I was on that part when I read your comment

Same. I feel you
Oi
When she screams SAVED something in me breaks
I get chills when she screams 'Saved' Love....Love...Love...
Yes! Chokes me up every time!
One of her best I think
their best*
it's not just Taylor's song!
You can definitely tell it comes from the heart. It hits me in the feels
This song is strangely soothing. She has a way of getting to the dark corners of the soul!
This song always makes me tear up. It has such true and deep meanings behind it. Real artist.
same it explains me but i cry like a fucking baby #melaniemartinezcrybaby i swear this is disturbing...yet beautiful
When I was younger I used to listen to this song but I wasn't able to understand what it was about, now that I get it and it's so sad and deep.
Eve Same
Rediscovered it today and man
I wonder if it's about something that maybe happened to her as a child actress

this song is so dark and i love it
totally girl.
2:31 - the moment the voice has more distortion than the guitar
That scream is so gutteral. Chokes me up every time. So much pain there.

this song is so sentimental to me. i discovered this song two years ago, when i was depressed. everything feels surreal after everything.

Life, like this song is both brutally ugly and amazingly beautiful. Love The Pretty Reckless and can't wait to see them in November!
cmpunkfan34 I agree. Life is like an ugly beautiful long sad dream that I can never wake up from.
First ever song I heard by the Pretty Reckless!! Taylor Momsen. And because of her, I fell in love with their rock music!
Avril Lavigne: Head above Water
The Pretty Wreckless: Under the Water
@@heisenberg6886 avril was never rock she was a rock Wanda be overrated pop star that's it.

My life in a song, I love TPR as there is always such a vast amount of emotion and passion in the songs
she is amazing.she should b more popular.:/
They**
It is a band
It might be harder on her, honestly. The fact that she gets to live on her music and that I get to keep listening to it is good enough for me.
Brasileiros que ouvem The Pretty Reckless são outro nível!
Inclusive, uma das melhores músicas dela 💜
You've just said all the truth!
Eu amo a Taylor Momsen e amo todas as músicas da banda. :)

Me listing to another Pretty Reckless song. I love this song!! Definitely my favorite song by Pretty Reckless!! Lol
I had the same with Metallica tonight! or Pantera! or any of my favourite bands! lol
I love pretty much all the songs that Pretty Reckless has sung, but this... It's something else.
It's "I pray for calmer seas" not "calmities".
i discovered this song when i was young, and now that i'm able to understand, it breaks my heart even more, i came here once in a while to heart this cuz i just love this
i LOVE that scream at 2:25.
Her passion and anger in that one word, is so emotionally strong.
to be honest its my fave bit in the song
This song is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.

This song really hits you on a different level when you’ve been depressed and alone for years 💔
This song is perfect. I love this song soooo much. Taylor Momsen ROCKS!
Broken lines across my mirror
Show my face all red and bruised
And though I scream and I screamed
Well no one came running
No I wasn't saved
I wasn't saved from you
Don't let me drown
don't let me drown in the waves
I could be found
I could be what you have saved
Lay my head under the water
Lord I pray for calmities
And when I wake from this dream
with chains all around me
no I've never been free
Alice in Acidland *calmer seas
It's a lyrics video. Why did you put here the verses?
Alone I pray for calmer seas****
i found this while trying to find that funny "hello i am under the water" video,,, i'm glad i found it :3
after 10 years. im here again with the same scars and the same broken heart💔
this song is one of my favorites.
I looooooovw her voice so much
“No I’ve never been, I’ve never been free”
Incrível como algumas músicas marcam uma fase da sua vida, e quando você volta a ouvi-la, é como se o tempo não tivesse passado.
Seriously. She's no mix of no one, she's just herself and doesn't need to be compared to anyone. Jesus.
This song would have been great in a sons of anarchy episode
This song makes me cry, Taylor just gets me every time. TPR
I have no idea of how many times I've listened to this song, and I'm really about to break down and cry.
I have no words to describe how much i love this song and how much I can relate to it. Perfection.
Taylor momsen has the BEST voice
